I’m amazed he had a receding hairline that early and it never moved!!

I remember McNulty. Moustaches don't get much better. For some reason, I always confused him with Mark McCumber when I was a kid. My dad and I once passed Mark McCumber in his courtesy car on the highway leaving the Western Open in Lemont, IL. I would imagine he was on his way back to his hotel at the end of the day. I can still remember the shock and amusement on his face when a little shaver (me) pointed excitedly out the window at the sight of him. I'm guessing he didn't get that a lot.

The first time I saw Arnold was in 1954. I was 14 years old and playing in the Ohio Amateur. I came off the golf course in pouring rain, and there was one guy on the practice range hitting 9-irons about 10 feet high, taking big divots. Strong as an ox, just killing the ball. I watched him for a half-hour in the rain because I was interested in his swing and how he was moving the ball, these low draws. Somebody said, “Oh, that’s our defending champion, Arnold Palmer.” He was still hitting when I left.

I first really became interested in golf and learned to play the game properly when DD was at the peak of his powers. While everybody else was tripping over themselves for Tiger, I was a Duval guy all the way down to the way I dressed to play (Oakley M Frames, and the whole bit). Played a Sonartec fairway wood and his Nike ball until they couldn't be found anymore and haven't liked another one as much until the Left Dash V1X came out.

Strikes me as a really nice guy, and glad he's found peace and happiness in his life with his wife and family after not finding it at the top of his profession.

Good old Hubie Green. He hit on my mom once. Across the ropes while waiting on a tee box, and with my dad standing right next to her. Pops said he was so impressed by the stones that took, that he just stood there and got a nice kick out of it. Needless to say, Hubie was my mother's favorite pro golfer from that point forward. As we can see, he was a handsome fella. He looks like a spitting image of Benedict Cumberbatch in that last photo

Great pictures, Chris. I miss that old school leg drive. It gave those classic two-plane swings a certain smoothness and grace.

Speaking of Watson, I always enjoyed the relationship he had with Seve. They revered one another. Could you do a pictorial of them? I’d try, but you’ll do it better.

let me find some...

funny sidenote is that watson, jack and Seve were all close...and would ask a 4th for the skins games

norman said when they played the one in Australia, he felt like it was 3 against one because they all talked smack against him and rooted for each other...

Seve respected jack & tom and they him...

I’ll find more pics tomorrow but here’s some good ones...

The masters one in black and white is awesome because you can see the true joy only shared by very close friends

I think trevino beat them all btw...Lee was the ultimate assassin...lord Byron/Tiger level of rip-your-throat-out mentality

That was superb. Those pictures were exactly what I was hoping for. The four of them (Jack, Tom, Seve, and Greg) on the tee is pure class. There wasn't an era when tour players were dressed more gracefully, in my opinion.  Seve and Jack especially in that photo, the shades of cream on brown and maroon, just exceptional colors.

Keep up the good work - it is very much appreciated.

Normans swing was up there with Johnny miller’s move...

both swung so hard while hanging so far back their front foot would rip and “slip” thru impact...

I can’t imagine having a reverse c so aggressive it would twist your front show spikes through the earth...

love normas swing...

In this thread we have a sensational collection of photos covering about 70 years of Pro Tour golf, including the swings ,equipment, course conditions,  hairstyles, wardrobes etc... of the various eras. These photos give some fans a way to remember how it used to be and others the  opportunity to learn things they previously did not know.

No problem, holing that putt after all the chaos and Craig Parry's bunker hole out was clutch.

Van de Velde's 3rd round at the Open in 1999 was an underrated round when compared to the rest of the field on one of the toughest course set up of all time.

The man did have a touch of French style debonair about him.

Hmmm...  That sort of thing could cause a death threat!

Kidding aside.  The way he handled losing that Masters with the final putt.  I believe someone made quite a noise as he was about to putt.  He missed and blamed no one.   Took the disappointment with pure class.

Here is an entry for a fellow left hander, Russ Cochran. His single PGA Tour victory came in the 1991 Western Open besting Greg Norman by a stroke. He won a handful of times on the Champions Tour, including The Senior Open Championship in 2011.

I enjoyed his homemade, athletic swing. He always struck me as the type that grew-up excelling at multiple sports.

He played a Senior US Open qualifier at my club a few years ago. He couldn't have been nicer to all who approached him that day, and he was very complimentary of our course.

Notice the stats on the back of his PGA Tour PROSET collector card in the second to last picture; quite a difference in the prize money back then, even for a solid player like he was, who finished comfortably inside the exempt line for most of his career. Also, notice the wear mark on the face of his driver in picture number two - pretty spiffy.

One of the most underrated and least talked about ball strikers by the general golfing population.

Also an incredibly nice guy the one time I met him and super friendly and encouraging to young 16 year old me.
