Wow! Thanks.

Fasth was a grinder of a golfer with a less than smooth swing who was ironically a slow golfer.

You're quite welcome. I thought he was a perfect entry in the less known but deserving of mention theme we've been on lately.

Nick Price - one of my favourites.

Not many people can say they dominated golf for a period of time.

I followed Nick for nine holes shortly after his run at number one in the world. I swear he did not miss the absolute center of the clubface on a single shot over those holes. Every lie, every situation, the golf ball left the club with the same flushed sizzle. I remember thinking that golf must be a lot of fun when you can do that. He was a legendary ball-striker.

And along with Faldo one of Leadbetters only true success stories.

I'd love to get a copy of his book, but when ever I make an effort to look, I can't find it for a reasonable price

Didnt see Langer play televised until the late 80’s. Dont know about earlier but at that time it was a mixed experience to see him play. Razor sharp iron play and all that but then came the putting... guess none with double major wins have yipped more 4, 6, 8-feeters. Even more painful than Westwood through the years. When he found the broomstick... I sure understand his resistance at the rule change. But bottom line - yeah it was a pleasure to see him play. And that moustache  in the white shirt pic wasnt living long I suppose. But you saw them all over the place those days going down to the german speaking countries.

What amazes me about Langer even more than his golf game is the fact that he's gone 50 odd years without gaining more than a few pounds and without losing hardly a hair from his head. That is strong!

lol, too true!

It was wild seeing him playing on the weekend in the Masters.  He wasn't just born before most of the rest of the field....he had won a Masters (or two) before most of the rest of the field was born.

Langer beat a prime DeChambeau at the Masters.

Amazing achievement.

https://golf.com/news/how-beat-bryson-dechambeau-700-yards/

There are endless way to illustrate the stunning advantage DeChambeau held over Langer in terms of distance but perhaps none starker than presenting the raw, cold data. Here are their final-round driving distances on all of the par-4s and par-5s, including the differential:

spacer.png

There are a couple of caveats — for example, Langer intentionally laid way back on the short par-4 3rd while DeChambeau banged driver — but over the course of 12 driving holes, the stats still do paint a vivid picture. Cumulatively, DeChambeau outdrove Langer by 768 yards — yes, more than seven football fields. Imagine giving up that kind of distance in your weekend money game (64 yards per hole!) and still staying competitive.

Littler’s swing sequence is bananas....

Being on the cover of sports illustrated was an achievement in those days...and he did it

He was so good...Casper, an all time great, happened to outdo him [BARELY] at the US Open...

Look at the leaderboard...he played in a fantastic era

and Littlers swing was a very “modern” one...his move would look perfect on a practice tee in 2021 at any tour event..

One of the few videos or TV coverages of Pine Valley - one of the hardest courses in the world.  Around 50 minutes at the end - Gene Sarazan shows us how Littler does his swing.

Need to be able to hit punch shots in Canada.  Also Canadians wear coats and ties, smoke pipes and do not yell "get in the hole!"

Not me!  I was an Anser man through and through.  Though if I needed a break I'd rotate through an Anser 3, B60, B61, and a MyDay--all in BeCu or MgBr of course.  The MyDay was the Zing head shape, but with the Anser hosel, Brad Faxon of course being the greatest acolyte of that model.  The short neck models (Zing 2, Anser 4, etc.) didn't do it for me for some reason.

Great stuff.  You can see how soft Littler keeps his arms going back--heck, you can even see it in that still swing sequence a few posts above the video.  That's one of those moves that can't be taught.  Just either born with it or--much more commonly!--you're not.

Much as it's hard to dislike Nick Price - man, I wish Jesper Parnevik had won the '94 Open at Turnberry.  That 18th hole has a lot to answer for (see 2009 too).

Jesper's career deserved at least one major.
