Because back in those days, players were not athletes. They could barely walk nine holes without falling over from exhaustion, but the players of today are incredibly advanced specimens of the species.

 

Well, that's what I hear from kids today...

 

Oh, and I forgot... Nicklaus and Trevino would be kicked off the golf course today by "traditionalists" for wearing those same 50 year old shirts.

Jack circa 1972-1973

To me, this is jack at the height of his power...his shoulder turn was off the charts and he absolutely went after his drives unlike anyone save Johnny Miller...

Jack’s hand release after such a shoulder / hip turn seemed to pull him off the ground yet his footwork was impeccable...

His swing was so effing good in the early 70s...

Swing belongs on the Mount Rushmore of golf imho

Our pro back when I was in HS and until my folks moved to a different town, was from Texas, knew Lee very well and had some great stories .... wish I'd recorded them!

Funny you mention the Sanders ticks. I just watched Horschel body vomit during his pre shot routine. It absolutely looked like it wasn’t his turn and he was just nervously moving about. Sadly, he was up.

I heard someone said this in a USGA documentary on Nicklaus' dominance. 

 

I'm paraphrasing a bit.

 

"You knew Jack was going to beat you." "You knew Jack knew he was going to beat you". "Jack knew he was going to beat you".
