Still using them (Wishon). I took advantage of the JPX EZ deal a few months ago and tried those for a bit but after a few weeks went back to SL. It's just much easier

for me, the only thing I did do was move the GW out and went with my 54 degree Wedge along with my 58. I just feel more comfortable with that.

I plan on getting fit this year for a set of SL, the set I use now I just bought off of eBay. It also helps that my golf pro uses SL as well.

Some people have asked for pics of played forged tec blacks, so here they are. Here's the "need to knows."

I received mine april the 3rd or 4th. 5-gw/sw

I play 5-6 days a week. Usually 36 holes on Friday and Saturday. I would say I easily have 1300 holes on them.

I play in GA, with Bermuda fairways. Ground isn't really soft. No divots to put back.

I use my 56 for every shot inside 110 yards.

Not sure if you can tell it, but the sw has a little more wear on it. I believe it is made with a different process but I could be wrong and someone will correct me if I am.

I am happy to answer any questions.

Thank you for the time and effort to share pictures of your Forged Tecs, It looks like the sole edges showing a bit more wear than the face, especially the PW, if I assume that the soles are clean and its not junk from the mats. Nonetheless, 1300 holes (72 rounds) is hell-of-a-lot and to me, your FTs look real good. By chance, do you also do range work in there, and if so, is the range grass or mat?

Thanks again, great pictures from a guy whos put in helluva lot of rounds on them. You must really enjoy the FTs :)

I am going to order mine in the next couple of weeks. I have FINALLY SOLD my Ansers so I am full on OL now (except my G25s with the Recoil Prototypes, my "old man" set).

Yw and I do love my clubs. I have hit off a mat a few times, but not enough to really matter. I really don't hit the range much because I live on the course I play and I have my own cart. I just go out the back door and play. Don't discount the type of fairways we have though. They are very grainy. If they aren't watered or it doesn't rain, they turn to hardpan. I would say that is where the biggest dulling came from. I'm a true believer in the ol technology. I hope more manufacturers jump in to offer more options. I'd love a ol true blade with minimum offset.

While not a pure blade, the Edel SLS01s I'm playing have no offset and the club heads are very short from heel to toe compared to other clubs. The top line is a bit thickish, but not like a giant shovel either.

FYI...still loving my Edel SLS01 irons. I am contemplating dropping my 3 wood and 54* wedge and adding the 55* SLS01 iron and an Edel 60* Lob wedge.

Living on a golf course, sounds like Palm Springs et al....nice gig 4 sure :) I think your post really closed up any concerns I & others had about Cobra's DBM finish. This is in light of some issues we saw with our F8 chroming finish as we were thinking that the chroming issues, if they can't get THAT right, surely they would goof up the DBM. But with so many rounds put in by you, I think the finish quality looks good. 1300 holes must put some wear and tear on.

So whats your thoughts on the steeper lie of the 5 iron vs shallow lie on the PW concept?

Let me say that I am a cobra guy. They're usually cheaper than the other manufacturers and I love their stuff, But I have seen pics of the f8 ols that have the chrome issue and it's unacceptable. It's easy to say what I would do if in that situation, but I really don't know. My bftecs still look great. While may be a little dulling, still very dark. I'm completely satisfied. Now the lie angles. I play 2* flat on vl. I think the angles are still too upright on the 5 and 6 even though I've had them bent. Just when I think I got them figured out, WRONG! I shot a 78 today but hit the 5 and 6 dreadfully! I have no confidence in either of them. I'll prob just get a ol hybrid at some point.

I almost pulled the trigger on some edels. It was a 4-gw for $550. The shafts were just too light for me. They prob are the closest thing to a blade I'd be looking for, but those black forged Tecs! While not the best shape and size, I love black clubs and these were basically murdered out! But some of those clubs on the national works thread! Good lord! But I'm on the wrx for a reason and could see my self changing if a bladed iron was released.

Yeah my quick update from this year so far is also that the SL Cobras are still in the bag firmly.

I had a scramble tournament today at an away club and contributed by flagging three irons to kick-in range. My only missed irons were terrible club selections where I went long.

Love these things.

I really want the Black Cobra's but I'll wait a season or so until the price drops. I really hope Ping goes into the SL market too. More the merrier.

My Cobra king f7 one lengths are still doing great. I'm really getting more consistent. I wish I could get a f7 sandwedge, called cobra & they don't carry the parts. Sucks!

I have an F7 SW I been debating on pulling from the bag. Actually I been debating on going back to VL altogether. I just don’t get what I’m use to out of the SW and GW but the PW-5 is fine.

The wear looks quite good on these given the rounds you play (thats like 3 years of golf for me!). I had a set of Nike Vapor Fly Pro's last year that have a similar black finish and they show much more wear than this with maybe 25 rounds tops on them. Impressed to see how these look. Playing f7's now but Ill be ordering these later this year once I can get a proper fitting.

OK, I'm back. I admit that I had a little fling with my VLs. I was having some swing trouble, so I went back to my old VLs just to try to find my groove. It worked, and I'm back with the SLs now. The VLs meant nothing to me. It was just a physical thing. It's the SLs that I love. Honest.

Truth is, I'm bouncing back and forth between my SL and VL sets. The pattern is that I play the SL set but end up losing the feel of my swing. I switch back to my VL set and find my swing again. Then I switch back to the SL set and lose it, repeating the same cycle over and over. It's not the single-lenthedness of the set. It's some fundamental difference between how the SL set is balanced and how the VL set is balanced. They're both as close as I can get them, so I don't really understand the problem. But if I could get the head shape and balance of my VL set in an SL set, I'd be a happier.

Going back to VL. I've not played well this year with by SL irons (Pinhawks). Found I couldn't hit my 5 & 6i with any consistency and hitting 9-SW to high & short on full shots. I pulled my old Ping G2 set and shot my lowest 18 and lowest 9 holes all year. Just bought 5-W Ping G20 and Ping Tour wedges 50-54-58 of ebay. I think my swing speed is not fast enough for the low irons with SL. I bought the Pinhawks in early 2017 when my VL game fell apart. I think SL let me work on honing my iron swing consistency and carried over to VL. Don't take it to mean SL are not a good idea, you just need to have sufficient swing speed to play 4-6i or use hybrids and SL for 7i and up. For $200, the Pinhawks are a great deal.

Thanks for the pics on the FTB One, Aucaveman!

Here are some additional ones for those interested!

- 9 rounds

- 1 300 ball range session on grass

Overall:

- haven’t noticed anything I don’t like about the club head finish

- some of the higher use clubs where I take some turf (Gap Wedge) are becoming a slightly lighter black

- whereas the blue Mizuno items would turn blue to a more extreme light gray with wear, this make a nice subtle transition from black to dark gray to lighter gray it seems. I don’t have previous black irons experience to compare, but no objections on my end

- note: utility iron (3) slightly different construction (more like an f8) than the other irons. wedges (56/60) are also slightly different and have held up great...granted I mostly chip with them and use the gap wedge for approaches

The black shaft: I actually did notice some wear here. I have a 5 full length divider bag and either carry or push cart it. The shaft notches on some clubs have turned a lighter black/gray and some areas show white...I probably hit a club head or something. Nothing impacting performance, though.

Punchline: no sweat on the longevity of the black club heads. The shaft blemishes are more noticeable but not big negative - Just may start to look a tad sloppy.

Here are pics:

- 8 iron, Gap, 56, 60 and utility are most used

Same issues for me. My long iron shots aren’t as bad as VL....but they still aren’t great!

Some things that helped me on the range:

- don’t swing so frocking hard because they are effectively short long irons. Especially keep the transition smooth/let the backswing finish

- maintain spine angle through impact and keep head still with eye on the ball

-“it’s just a smooth 7 iron...even though I know it’s a 4 that I want to mash”

Kind of captain obvious-like answers (sorry!) and I’m the last guy to give advice, but started to find the good stuff when I kept the spine angle through contact. It gets bad on the long irons when I stand up in the swing like this. I can get away with it for 8 iron and up, but not for the 3/4/5/6

I think I’m on my way to go back to VL. I don’t hit my F7 SL irons bad but there are some concerns. The 5 and 6 may be a touch shorter than my old VLs but it is very marginal and I’ve actually hit some great shots with the 5 iron. The 7-PW are pretty close to normal distance and I have pretty much no issues with them. The problem comes with the GW and SW. There’s probably a 20 yard gap between the PW and GW and that is unacceptable. I’ve tried a few things but these clubs just don’t go the distance as my old clubs and I just play for them to go the shorter distance. I don’t know what it is, maybe it’s the weight removed from the head or I subconsciously don’t make a 7 iron swing with a wedge but it’s getting old and I’m in the market for new irons.
