Morning Drive...What Happened?

This is hilarious...now we have a GC shill on here proving our point for us. Typical arrogant, washed up golf pro who is all-of-a-sudden a TV star and programming expert! Lol. Wasn't good enough to make a living on tour so now we have to listen to him tell us how great the Golf Channel is...what do you expect him to say? That his employer sux? "If you don't like it, change the channel"...no arrogance in that comment! So posters here are not intelligent enough to state the obvious? The fact is Morning Drive is terrible...contrived and trivial programming...the WRX posters have it right. Are we still allowed to voice our opinion, Mr. Damron?

Wow, nice first post. You’re going to endear yourself well. We happen to like the fact that he comes on here and converses with us. Listens to our ideas, and willingly engages a little good natured ribbing. Takes as well as he gives.

If you don’t like it, or even hate it, that’s fine, it’s your opinion. But the pointed attack on RDD are uncalled for. “A arrogant, washed up shill”? Im willing to bet his “washed up” career is still miles and miles ahead of yours.

So, much like you said in your comment about not watching if you don’t like it, if you don’t like the thread......

As Viper paraphrased to Maverick after the circus flyby of the control tower..."You had a helluva first post son."

There's also a certain irony to your name and Cougar in Top Gun taking himself out of the program after the interaction with the MiG. Hoping you don't end up flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog stuff outta China.

I'm having a hard time believing this is a serious post.

Didn't get to watch as much as I would have liked last night, but GC showed an old Players final round. *This* is what is needed. I can't believe the "rights" to show old events are that expensive.

That was awesome to watch! Among the highlights...

1. Everything Seve

2. Freddie's hair and hitting a 2 iron

3. Hearing Steve Melnyk

4. Hearing Kenny Venturi

5. Hearing Pat Summerall

6. Seeing an even tougher, albeit shorter TPC Sawgrass (par 5's under 500 yards)

7. Persimmon woods

8. Hitting 8 irons on 17

9. Ray Floyd's swing

10. Fashion of 1985 (still have some in the closet)

11. Visors

12. Lee Trevino talking about going to having a few beers after the round

13. First place prize money of $144,000

14. Total prize money of $800,000

15. Mark O'Meara looking like he was 12

16. The winning score being on -11

Yeah...slow night in the Pelz household.

Incredibly underrated! Nothing of comparison today!

You're absolutely right. None of these can compare to the "great legend in his own mind" that is Gary McCord.

And just in case you're wondering how I really feel, Gary McCord is absolutely insufferable.

Great list!

As I'm reading and "yes", "yes" to every response my wife thought I was watching When Harry Met Sally!

Pat Summerall was the last, IMO, of the consummate professional ex-athlete turned versatile broadcaster.

Don't know why but mentioning that, for no particular reason at all, has me missing Curt Gowdy doing anything baseball and football and the hunting segments I'd wait for all year round on The American Sportsman!

Doesn’t get any better.

1990 - #13 Iowa 54 - #5 Illinois 28 - at Champaign. Most satisfying road game I ever attended. Illinois looked to be in denial, demoralized in losing 35-0 to Iowa, then the second quarter started!

Went with a buddy, we went from the game back to his apartment in the Quad Cities. He had taped the game. We watched into the early hours of the next morning. Game starts with obligatory farmland scenes in Illinois, then a big old harvest moon and a farm and then . . . . KEITH JACKSON (we were on ABC) saying, "The hay's in the barn, it's time to go a hunting." The onslaught was on!

He and Hayden once wore farmer coveralls to an I-club breakfast in Iowa City. Hayden said of Keith, He's my hero," former Iowa coach Hayden Fry once told the Associated Press. He stands for all the good things associated with college football."

Loved listening to Keith Jackson and he loved his "big uglies", lol.

Ok. Who's the new guy with the square on his face ?

'Coach' was on ESPN and got run outta there. Some of the ESPN radio shows made fun of him for the time it took to trim his goatee

lol. That thing is distracting. Woof

Best segment on MD in a long time. Two former pros (Robert and Paige) really telling Shackelford how it is. But he won’t give in, keeps talking about all the great players he’s talked to. They’ve put him in his place and he won’t accept it.

Then saying it’s a new issue.

Geoff Shackelford is the Mel Kiper of the golf media world. Another one who wormed his way in, based on what?

EDIT: backstopping was the topic.

Agree on Shackelford...he claims to be a golf course designer yet nobody will hire him. Where is his credibility?

It was a great segment. If you followed the topic on Twitter over the weekend, Shackelford does have some support from some pretty prominent people inside the golf world. That's not to say I completely agree with him. In my opinion, the USGA creates it's own chaos based on how convoluted the rules are written. The language often lends itself to misinterpretation as well as multiple interpretations from the same wording.

Back on the topic of the Morning Drive segment, it's nice to see reasonable minds can disagree respectfully which can lead to some great television.
