How many iron sets do you own?

Ziggystz

Recommended Posts

I still have every set I've ever bought over the last 45 or so years.

I have 14 sets of irons, 19 Drivers in every material a Driver was ever made of, including some sort of weird composite that my old Diawa Driver is made from, and I have 26 3 woods and 8 5 woods.

I dont know exactly how many wedges and putters I have,I've given away a few of them here and there, but it's a lot.

14 over 45 years is very conservative (and very good self restraint!)

I think I've bought like nine sets in the last two years

Well, the Adams sets are all prettier than the AP2s, IMO. Also, I like the cambered soles on all of the Adams irons because of better turf interaction for me. I've been playing the AP2s lately mostly as a vehicle for trying the Project X Flighted shafts, which I like very much. The CMBs are awesome feeling, and much more forgiving than they look. I'd say they are similar in forgiveness to the AP2's, but in a much nicer looking and feeling package. I haven't hit the XTD's yet, but they are basically CMBs with slot technology, so they should be even a bit more forgiving, especially on thin shots. The RIP Tour 115 shafts are probably going to be too stiff for me, so I may be putting the shafts on the BST.

Appreciate the feedback. Titleist, Mizuno are the two companies I was sold on but I will be trying Adams irons. Also curious about the Cleveland 588 CB. Older but the head shape always appealed to me.

Omg! That's an impressive list. You could use a different set for every day of the month!

Now do we call ourselves collectors or hoarders?

:D

Going to put out the list as a reminder to self one does not need 31 sets.

Lol, yup kinda silly having that many sets. These are the ones iv'e kept, iv'e had a ton more. My best ball partner used to just shake his head when i brought out a different set every week. Seemed to shoot very similar with every set. Every set feels different, and i am not one to say all clubs are the same, but Kinda shows how driving, chipping and putting is so important.

Kinda went on a forged iron quest, and started collecting them, i have been meaning to list a bunch of clubs but i can't seem to get around to it. So that might mean i'm a hoarder as well.

I did sell 3 sets recently thou, that's a start.

I have a set of King Cobras that are very bladey, they are slightly longer than traditional blades, the top line is like a scalpel, these came out a year or so before the original King Cobra oversize\cavity back model that were pretty popular, and they are roughly around 20-25 years old.

Then there is a set of RBZ irons that I brought when I got back into golf after a 6 year break, played them for about a year, then got a 2nd hand set of MP-59's, played them for a few years then got into a set of 2014 Callaway Apex and now I am waiting on my new set of Mizuno Hot Metals to arrive.

So I still have all those sets, plus my sons old set of Cleveland CG 16's.

If you ever want to sell the DCI 981 heads, let me know! I live in the Inland Empire too! I played them in throughout high school but sold them a few years ago while moving houses. Honestly should have kept them; had a lot of memories with them.

As for the rest of the post, I've got 4 iron sets in the garage. I'm an iron ho and don't collect anything else other than wedges.

1. Titleist DCI Black (this was the first set I learned to play on)

2. Srixon Z565/Z765 combo

3. Callaway X Forged

4. Mizuno MP 25/MP 5 (got these just recently from BST)
