People acting like Lexi was cheated out of a win last year at ANA

and by people, I mean the announcers on the Golf Channel. They are all like, "lexi got cheated last year so we hope she gets redemption this year." Folks, she cheated and got caught. She moved her ball and made an incorrect spot. Does it suck, yep. Did they change the crappy rule, yep.

Don't want to get into this, it's a big fish lol

I do feel she was over penalized though so I don't blame the narrative to be that she was a bit cheated. It was 4 shots right? Heavy...

I just can't back a tv viewer calling it in. Countless tournaments would have countless instances of infringement not caught because of no tv coverage

And not just any call in, a viewer CALLED IT IN THE NEXT DAY!! Watching his DVR recording of it.....over 18 hours AFTER she signed her card.....So bad.

This topic was beaten to death last year though. I’m worn out on it. Have fun with it.

point of my post was not to rehash the debate, but rather to remind the dorks on the golf channel that she wasn't just randomly selected and given 4 stroke penalty for the heck of it....

.I think the issue, at least for me, was the penalty of signing an incorrect scorecard. Did she place the ball in the wrong spot? Absolutely. Did she sign a wrong scorecard when she turned it in? No, the penalty wasn't enacted until the next day. That is the additional penalty that I think they got wrong (and have sense fixed).

I wonder what would have happened if this was the Sunday round? Would they strip her of the title and give it to whomever came in second place?

She didn’t adhere to the rules of golf. She got punished (correctly). She lost out on the title as a result. No-one to blame but herself.

I totally agree. The rule breach of mis-marking the ball was warranted. However, she should of never been charged a two-stroke penalty for signing an incorrect scorecard because at the time she signed her scorecard, the penalty was not known. She was told well after the round that she had breached a rule. So, she should of won by two-strokes.

I assume the use of "cheat" was a poor choice of words since it typically implies intent. :lock:

I do think there was intent. Watch the incident in context a few times. Here is what I see when I watch the video: She saw something she didn't like about the original line of the putt. A spike mark, a scuff on the green or a few blades of grass in her line that might affect the roll of the ball. She marked and replaced over a little bit to avoid whatever it was she saw. Its a minor infraction but clearly to my eye she was trying to gain an advantage and improving her chances to make the putt by placing her ball a little to the side of where she should have been playing from. No question in my mind that that is what happened. It should have been a DQ not penalty strokes.

I don't even follow women's golf, but I can say I'm very doubtful Lexi Thompson would intentionally break the rules of golf especially one such as that. I'm all for keeping the history of the game intact but the way the rules were applied to me were not very black and white.

lol.. i personally think it was a Korean conspiracy .

But seriously... anyone who thinks she moved that on purpose just has an axe to grind..... why would anyone do that? there is zero advantage to be had... it was just a bonehead move... period... and was handled as bad as could be by the rules people... after the fact nonsense , and yes it cost her the tournament .. literally stolen .

that being said.. i hope she wins by 15 this week.... does the diamond dallas page solute ( look it up) and walks off without jumping in the "pond"...

An ax to grind? Seriously? So that's how you discount any opinion that differs from your own? Sheesh.

not in general.. but when a guy starts a thread about an issue that is a year old and been argued to death then yes.. id say hes still grinding that axe... you could say the same about me if i started the thread defending her... i didnt .. i just replied and pointed out his axe grinding prowess...

Yes, in my opinion he is right. You can not, with any intellectual honesty, claim to know exactly what was going on in her head and what her intent was, you simply can't, no one can. To further any narrative based on insisting you can is to push an agenda and grind an axe. You can't know, period.

Yeah, she always looks so comfortable over those short ones. No need to get any sort of advantage.

I personally think it was just one of those things that was common practice for some players on both tours, never considered a big deal. Lexi just happened to be the one who got dinged for it. I even seen a thread in the PGA section where players on twitter where actually laughing about a specific player for his reputation when it comes to ball marking and the shenanigans he pulls. With Hi-def resolution is has become noticeable to the average viewer and thus pros are probably aware not to mess around anymore.

The extra 2 strokes for the signing an incorrect scorecard had to go and I'm glad it did. But in terms of being robbed of a Major (or Chance at it) Anna Norquist is bigger injustice for me. Hi-Def cameras magnified to the point of ridiculousness just to see a grain of sand move that nobody on earth could see standing right there with the human eye.

In my opinion, and that of many others, she was cheated! That's why the incident led to a rules change!

You would have to be blind not to see that!... :blind:

I am convinced that a fellow competitor, or a friend/relative of theirs, was responsible for bringing Lexi's misstep to the attention of whoever. And that it was someone who was present on the course and happened to be around the green when it happened. And that they deliberately waited until the next day to see how things were playing out before they decided to do so.
