Dude, I have to stay up until 2am to watch the end of the Open, and I am usually up at 3.30am to watch the final rounds of the US Majors. Once a year will not kill you!

true story...during the front 9 of tigers round today 8 of us guys who have an open pool going were watching while we worked and had a group text going..... the senior of he group literally says " i just stopped in the drug store to buy some tiger tape and the lady looked at me crazy.... so i showed her a picture and she said " oh KT tape....we dont carry that ..youll have to go online".... he went in to get him some today before he practiced...lol.. we all got a good laugh out of that .. he didnt even know what he was going to put it on.. Already 5+ groups on the course, and below is what we’re watching.

i'm a big golf nut but am beginning to think 13 and a half hours of tv coverage is a bit long...

 

plus another 9 and half hours for the last 2 days..

You know, that's what I always loved about the Open (the British one). You can watch it "all" in so far as they cover the first tee shot to the last putt and everything in between. You get a much better feel for the changing conditions, the swings of fortune etc as the rounds develop, and they are usually pretty good at showing anyone noteworthy and anyone playing well, not just a 13 hour Tiger fest. This approach probably suits links golf the best, as it's not unusual to see the first groups teeing off in beany hats and thick coats, and the afternoon groups playing in short sleeves. What you also see from that is how the course changes - how a long drive and a pitch par 4 can change to a 2 iron approach into the teeth of the wind in under a couple of hours.

 

There is way too much bland generic parkland golf on TV - golf is a game developed by the coast, and that is usually where the most dramatic courses are to be found, regardless of where you are in the world.
