Just wait till Pano, Lucy Li and Rachel Heck are on tour. The level of play (especially ball striking) is going to get much, much better as more of these young, well-coached and athletic players become mainstays.

Good point. Who are the equivalent S.Korean kids coming up? There must be some.

Don’t forget about the Thais.

If Sei Young's putter cooperates today -30 should be a foregone conclusion - she won't be playing for fairways and greens. Someone in the pack is going to shoot 63 and it isn't going to be close to enough.

You're way off. Just some 64's and Ciganda is 9 shots off.

-31? ridiculous. Where are the "time to dial back the golf ball" "The equipment is too good" threads.

Is SYK using mp25 irons? If not can anyone give me the model please? I know she used 53's well and moved on to 15's at some point but I can't find a witb anywhere

Not sure what Mizuno's she has, but looking at her 3 wood (R15?) there is a wear spot in the dead centre the exact size of a golf ball.

Course seems tough

Sarcasm mode on eh?

We so talk all the time about how a certain course is "easy" and back it up with the rating and slope. I am getting to be more and more convinced that the rating means nothing as compared to the pro game. Be it men or women. The things that the raters look at that give fits to a scratch (0.0 index) player the pro does not even see.

For instance this week's ladies course has a rating of about 71.5 per the scorecard I provided earlier. Not a terribly difficult course compared to most of the men's tour setups but not a pushover for most golfers. But even the lady pros rip it up as they just hit fairways and greens and either par or birdie. Rinse and repeat.

With that rating a male scratch would average between 74 and 75 shots per round and the ladies ripped it to pieces.

Will let least one certainly did.

-31 !!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks.... I've searched all images and can't find her hitting an iron....ugh....just curious

Can't believe the -31. That's an LPGA record, right?

You can see her scorecards here: http://www.lpga.com/tournaments/thornberry-creek-lpga-classic/leaderboard

Click on her name and then click "View full scorecard"

I'm a big fan of Sei Young, and she played brilliantly this week! But, there is no way that LPGA should have courses set up so easy or play courses that make a mockery of the term “birdie-fest”. SYK is a terrific ball striker and she is a top player and I am glad to see her win again. Yet, there is something fundamentally wrong when the scores are this ridiculously low.

Personally, I don’t want to see a USGA US Open style set up week in and week out on the LPGA with the goal of a winning score of PAR, but winning scores should be less than (- 20) for a 72 hole event. I agree that these women are terrific players, but these scores and the uber birdie fest that it became undermines the great work and skill of the players.

Found something and it seems like mp18 SC or mmc irons.....stay tuned

Well, if you're going to have a birdie fest, may as well set a new record doing it. Wonderful week for Sei Young. No bogies, and only one double for the week? She hit an unbelieveable 93% of her greens, only missing 5 greens in 4 rounds. How's that for ballstriking? She also managed 274 yards off the tee for the week, and less than 30 putts per round. What a clinic.

Further down the leaderboard we have career best finishes for Emma Talley, Bronte Law, Maria Torres, Dani Holmqvist, and Brittany Marchand.

Where are the 4 handicappers at? Let’s see a death match against Sei Young. A 4 may be able to beat an LPGA player for 1 round but 72 holes? Nope

I think we need to look at her consistency.. 4 Great rounds are very rare.. You'll see spurts of great rounds once or twice..

That's what makes her score noticeable..

Congrats to SYK..

When Sei Young Kim wins, she does it spectacularly. Recall that Lotte playoff against inbee Park in 2015 (was it THAT long ago?).

Sei Young seems to fly under the radar. Up to this point in the season it's been a rather down year, with only 3 top 10's in 14 previous events. In 25 events last season she only chauked up 9 top 10's. However, when she gets hot, she gets red hot. Seven wins in three and a half seasons solid, or roughly two wins a season.
