Today a reporter asked Tiger Woods if he had anything broadly to say about the state and the discourse of race relations. Tiger said, "No, I just finished 72 holes and am really hungry." With that said, Tiger has always said that he only thinks about race when the media asks him.

that's how everybody should think about race.

what's the record for most $$$$ in a season without a win?

Finau is now over $4.8m without a W.... but this cat is putting together quite a resume: last two years; in 54 PGA tour events he has 17 top 10's including 3 seconds....

Furyk or Kuchar might be close

Michael Jordan never inserted himself into the middle of politics or race relations. Worked out ok for him and his brand..

This country would be in much better shape if everyone had that attitude. A slight tangent but this is one of the many reasons I hold journalists in contempt. They make a living off the misery of others. And if there is no misery, then they try to create it.

Actually some might consider Finau's consistency to be more of an accomplishment than going out and winning a tournament and then proceeding to miss a bunch of cuts in a row..

I haven’t read back too far but are you guys serious ? Any reporter who’d ask that question should be open to a throat punch. A free one. No legal recourse.

Media is just a product. Not defending them, just saying they give people what they want to hear. There's enough people out there who click on this all day to confirm what they already believe , that's who this type of thing is targeted at. Your 3-5 friends on Facebook that post 50x a day. Because they consume more media than everyone else put together

Did the media create them or vice versa? It's chicken and the egg

I don't even know that journalism exists anymore in the classical sense

Absolutely, the smug self satisfied looks they have as they sow discontent day after day while pretending to be arbiters of truth.Tiger was a gentleman for handling that like that, I would have lost it on this clown.

No one knows yet. Tiger Tracker had the quotes, but it seems the media member isn’t known outside of a New York Times reporter.

Tiger and the media have pretty much always had an icy relationship. Earl told Tiger never to trust them and Tiger has never let them in. Tiger had bad run-ins with John Feinstein and Jimmy Roberts back in the day. Charlie Pierce’s GQ article in ‘97 took quotes from Tiger that he thought were off the record that further cemented Tiger’s general hate toward the media. Tiger likes Jaime Diaz, but that might go back to Jaime not making public some awful things Earl said after one of his US Amateur wins. Tiger’s infidelities and how the media pounced on him was the final straw if it wasn’t already drawn by then.

I can't see Furyk doing anything exciting or controversial. It's possible that Tiger wants Bryson and Phil wants Finau. He will listen and pick those two guys.

I’m pretty sure those 4 will be the picks, but why would Phil have a soft spot for Finau?

DJ's non-adjusted scoring average of 68.63 is second in PGA Tour history only to Tiger's 68.17 in 2000 as a Vardon Trophy award winner

Yup, crazy low:

All Time

1)68.17 - Tiger Woods, 2000

2)68.33 - Byron Nelson, 1945

3)68.73 - Tiger Woods, 2006

4)68.84 - Tiger Woods, 2009

5)68.87 - Tiger Woods, 2001

Here's the adjusted average for comparison:

1988-2018

1) 67.65 – Tiger Woods, 2008 (only 6 events)

2) 67.79 – Tiger Woods, 2000

3) 67.79 – Tiger Woods, 2007

4) 68.05 – Tiger Woods, 2009

5) 68.11 – Tiger Woods, 2006

6) 68.41 – Tiger Woods, 2003

7) 68.43 – Tiger Woods, 1999

8) 68.56 – Tiger Woods, 2002

9) 68.63 Dustin Johnson 2018

9) 68.65 – Vijay Singh, 2003

10) 68.66 – Tiger Woods, 2005

Gonna be annoying if Furyk picks his buddy Kuchar. Finau has played very well in the majors and now playoff event. He is a birdie machine with enormous firepower off the tee. Seems like a no brainer choice for the team.
