3700 posts. My gosh, what a day.

I just want to offer a warm and heartfelt thank you to the WRX management team and the mods for the wonderful gift basket and tickets to the US OPEN next year. My heart is smiling. I will always treasure this moment. It's an honor and privilege to post hear. Compared to the other website forums where I post (Joannfabrics.com, angusmacfadyen.com, Seamus, Mackensiebags.com and jaydonblake.com), WRX is by far the best.

Thanks again.

Ferg

I once got suspended for accusing mustached golfers of being less prolific.

Re: Probably have Phil up close to top 10 in my list if you consider how much more he'd have won if tiger was never a pro. But that's just me.

Did Tiger "prevent" anyone from succeeding? I think not.

Tiger controlled his own actions, and not the actions of others.

I think Phil would be exactly where he is today with or without Tiger.

Phil is a bad decision-maker on and off the course. This is not opinion.

He is in love with the fame and fortune that being a great player has afforded him (and that's fine).

Tiger played to win.

Phil played for a pat on the back and a paycheck.

Come on now Ferg.

If we waited to pull for only good decision makers off course we’d all be Rickie Fowler fans. Phil isn’t close to the worst. Not even top 20. Unless you’re a federal prosecutor who thinks leaving uncle Sams cut a bit light or taking a few sheckles off of some wealthy folks in the worlds largest ( govt run) Ponzi scheme , is the worlds worst crimes.

But you know that. We’re both tiger fans too. But his decision making off course isn’t exactly a highlight of his life.

Id put Phil top 12 as is now. If he gets the us open he moves to 10.

1. Nicklaus

2. Woods

3. Jones

4. Hogan

6. Snead

7. Nelson

8. Hagen

9. Player

10. Palmer

11. Trevino

12. Sarazan

13. Watson

14. Seve

15. Faldo

16. Norman

17. Phil

18. Els

19. Mangrum

20. ??? Maybe Peter Thompson?

The way I see it those first three guys are in their own tier, then there's a tier just below them that runs about 4 through 10 or 11, then another one just below that. Tiger hurt Els's career way more than Phil's, though I'm sure many of you would say I have Phil ranked too low anyhow. Everyone from 13 up has 6+ majors. Just can't see Phil being any better than #14, and--A game to A game--I think Seve, Faldo and Norman were all better than Phil.

Ferg had Harry Vardon and Willie Anderson on his list. Those guys go back just a little too far for me, though for some reason I'm okay with Jones and Hagen? Birth years:

Vardon, 1870

Anderson, 1879

Hagen, 1892

Jones, 1902 (same as Sarazan)

And if you're going to put Vardon and Anderson on your list why not James Braid (b. 1870) or JH Taylor (b. 1871)? I tell you, it's a slippery slope all the way down to Old Tom Morris, and poor Phil's out of the top 20 by that point, lol.

Good list Ferg. I planned to remind you of Mangrum. But you got him and Steve in there. lol.

Probably have Phil up close to top 10 in my list if you consider how much more he’d have won if tiger was never a pro. But that’s just me.

LOL, just noticed Steve was in there. ;-)

And that other Gary.

With me it's small phone, big thumb.

In the FWIW category, and since we are all complaining about it being slow, I thought that I would drop this jewel into the conversation.

Now, for full disclosure, I was an Evans Scholarship recipient, so maybe I'm just a little bit jaded.

And, I also truly appreciate Fergie's position of players being the best of their time, considering peers, equipment, etc.

Mr. Evans played during a period approximately a century ago, which highlights truly how far the game, equipment, agronomy, etc have come in the past 100 years.

I wish that I had the opportunity to have thanked him personally for what he has done to change the lives of thousands of caddies through his scholarship program, so I will honor him through this post, and hope that, if you were not familiar with Charles "Chick" Evans before, that now you have a bit of what I consider really important golf history.

DavePelz4 and Argonne, I'm pretty sure, are aware of Mr. Evans, since the Western Golf Association is practically in their back yards, in Golf, Illinois, not too far from Northwestern University.

Enjoy, and if I'm not back on the boards for a week or so....everybody, hold off on the third helping of Thanksgiving offerings, or you'll be forced to go through another fitting to accomodate your now flatter swing, due to expanded waist line.

Mr. Evans: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chick_Evans

So, while I respect the golf games of Mr, Nicklaus, Mr. Snead, Mr. Woods, Mr. Hogan, et al....Mr. Evans will always be #1 in my list of GOAT.

Coolest thing I've read on here in a long time! Has to be a great feeling to look back on that.

And I'm presently transporting home the frozen 18 pound bird only 5 of us will attack - I'll be able to have 3 helpings on Friday as well.

16. Harry Vardon (1896-1914) 7 majors

17. Billy Casper (1956-1975) 51 wins 3 majors

18. Vijay Singh (1993-2008) 34 wins 3 majors (+9 Euro wins)

19. Greg Norman (1984-1997) 20 wins 2 majors (+12 Euro wins and 31 Australian tour)

20. Ernie Els (1993-2013) 19 wins 4 majors (+22 Euro wins)

21. Cary Middlecoff (1945-1961) 40 wins 3 majors

22. Rory McIlroy (2010-2018) 14 wins 4 majors (+7 Euro wins)

23. Bernhard Langer (1985-1993) 3 wins 2 majors (+40 Euro wins)

24. Jimmy Demaret (1938-1957) 31 wins 3 majors

25. Lloyd Mangrum (1940-1956) 36 wins 1 majors

Hmmm, that's still leaving out Peter Thompson, Bobby Locke, and a host of others. This is an impossible task the further down the list it goes.

Awww, there's my baby. Such an ugly little duckling :D

Well, yes, but probably very effective. I'd rather see someone sole their putter and check the alignment, than try to get their sharpie line on the ball just right.

Ya know, it's interesting... I putt side saddle with it, and never really thought to do that behind the ball as an alignment.

The shaft is graphite and 33.5" and the head is very heavy, so when I realized it could stand on it's own, I'd just leave it standing on the green while I chip, or after I hole out. I may have to consider using it to visualize the line.

Thanks!

Wait a second, you actually use that monster?

Critique the technique, not the beard! This is about a 7/8 footer... I actually hit the middle of the phone. The selfie lens is not in the middle :D
