Fyi - odyssey inserts - replacement

I was told today by a retail store manager that odyssey will now start replacing inserts with the new microhinge.

 

He was not sure if the replacement service will be for defective only or defective plus elective choices. Also not sure how far back in model they'll go.

The WHP insert would be my first choice, followed closely by the Metal X, but I suppose I would settle for the newer WHP Microhinge depending on the price.

Wouldn't they rather you just buy a new putter with the microhinge than replace the insert in your old putter? Just seems like from a business perspective they'd want you to "upgrade" vs retrofitting your current putter. I have been wrong plenty of times but I can't imagine they would do this for retail customers.

Probably depends on margins and anticipated volume. If they're going to replace as an elective purchase then surely they've calculated how much new putter purchases would be canabalized by insert replacement.

 

I don't personally know what the policy is. Just passing info along that I heard. However, insert replacement would be a very high margin service and would capture some business.

That's true. I know this is all "to be determined," I'm just thinking out loud. It would be awesome if it happens! There are a few O-works head shapes I'd love to get fit with a WHP insert if that ever became a possibility!

are you saying you would rather have the white hot insert that is flat without any roll technology on it, in other words to plain flat white hot insert?

Yes, I`m sure they would rather you "upgrade" the entire putter for $300. But not everybody buys into the idea that the newest putter is better than an older 2002 model. For those set on keeping "old faithful" a $30 insert replacement is an option.So is it better for Callaway to make $30 or nothing?

 

If they were smart they would sell replacement inserts for all their models since the beginning, unless of course they were poured into the insert cavity.

There are some older models that I loved the look of but didn't like the insert for. This would be a cool option but it just doesn't seem to make sense. Pulling and replacing inserts all day has got to be time consuming so there would be a big back log and they'd have to charge a lot.

I like the white hot microhinge insert. I practice putting a lot and thought about what would happen if I wore the insert out. Then I gave my head a shake...I change putters so often I havent wore out a grip, never mind the face.

Microhinge does not test well... white hot is the way to go

Very interesting, because I thought I wouldn't get a whole lot of support in the idea that I dislike these new, soft, odd feeling inserts that odyssey has put out. I also like the white hot insert much better then the RX or o-works inserts. Now I just did purchase a works blade putter that has that nice feeling screen fused on the insert.

when my oworks metal mesh started peeling i called odyssey and they replaced it with a new microhinge putter no questions asked. maybe thats what the retail store manager is insinuating.
