After trying every iron on the planet...ish, I pulled the trigger today. I have played some of my best golf of my life last year with my P790s. There is no chance I’m selling them, but it was mostly because of old man Par. When I played from over 6800 yards, just simply could not get the ball close with spin with anything over an 8 iron..lots of 2 putt pars. My 7 iron would typically release 25 feet or so. The apex pro’s with the elevate tour shafts gave me more spin and higher launch than any other combo, even loft differentials taken into account. Ordered apex pro’s, 2 flat, -1/4, align grips. Could easily go all Cally this year, except for ping g410 temptations.

Don't shy from the Cobra Forged Tec Blacks. They are high, long and have enough spin to hold the green......

Switching to Apex Pro from Rogue Pro last year. In testing i hit the Apex about 2-3 yards shorter but with close to 1000 rpm more spin. They felt better and most importantly, were far more consistent, Caught way to many fliers with the Rogue's, and the inability to bend them much hampered what i could do.

Def recommend the Pro's. Well balanced and plenty long & forgiving for a forged blade. Nice compact head with thin topline too.

Common problem with the players distance irons. Spin is too low, and the angle of descent doesn't make up for it unless you play on soft greens.

JPX 919 Forged and Cobra Forged Tec Black really shine in the spin dept for this genre of iron.

Played my new set of Alex 19's today. They are custom fit with an added 2 degrees of loft. They carry about 10 yards longer than my ping i200's, and feel incredible. Anyone claiming the pro version is softer Is being silly in my opinion. Both sets are incredible. It seems the diffence is the club size and loft.

Feel significantly better than the i200 in your opinion? I ask as a current i200 owner interested in the apex/apex pro.

In my fitting I hit both. I ended up in the pros for two reasons, feel and looks. I didn't enjoy the wider sole of the i210, it felt like some skipped into the ball (yes my swing fault, but still didn't like it). But, I am in Texas where hard pan is the norm. I know many people say the i210 is soft, but for me it was not at all, especially on mishits. I felt the feel on the Apex Pros to be much softer.

18 yards.....reallly.....?????

Anyway. I have had mine for a few weeks now (Non Smoke) and I cant find anything wrong with them. All the reviews are dead on, you can work the ball high / low / left / right and feel is excellent. Coming from '16 Pros the one thing I really notice is the 4-5 irons are WAY better than the '16 pros....by a long way overall.

I would say they are the real deal and probably one the best irons Cally has made. Distance wise I gained 4-5 yards but they are one degree stronger and they seem to produce a bit more ball speed so it matches the gains seen.

Edit: one concern I have is the face finish durability. Played 5 rounds now and some minor range time. All the irons look pretty new still but the 8 Iron is showing wear marks already. The part that bothers me it I noticed it on the first day but not with any other clubs. I really have not hit the 8 iron much either.....Going to see what Cally has to say about it.

For those of you have hit the Apex Pros, I have a few questions.

1) How do the Elevate shafts feel? Do they seem firm or weak to flex?

2) Has anyone hit these with any other shaft than the Elevate? If so, which shaft and how did it perform?

I want to order a set of these, but I'm unsure which shaft to go with. I've been playing the AMT S400 for a while and have grown to love these. My concern is will these shafts lower spin/launch too much? I know the Elevate shafts are designed to provide higher launch, which is the opposite of the AMT.

I can play a 7 iron that spins 6k or a 5 iron that spins 4k as I'm naturally a high ball hitter, but if the spin numbers are lower than that I may struggle to hold greens.

I hit the elevate shafts and they did what they claim to do. I would say weaker over stronger, but they felt pretty average overall. ballflight was def higher. I hit them at the pga show in orlando, outdoors on a windy day and was not impressed with the shaft. ball floated too much. I play the KBS Tour-V 110 shaft. more penetrating ballflight, tighter profile, but still lighter than a DG s300.

Id suggest using the shafts you are used to, if you cant try the elevate yourself first.

KBS Tour V 110s are likely a perfect fit for those, I have in one of my 2014 Pro sets, impressive performing shafts.

Anyone gaming the Catalyst 100 shaft?

I have two great sets of irons...Mizuno MMC and Srixon Z945 but the Apex Combo is on deck if I were to make a change. I currently play Recoil 95 and Recoil 110 both in F4. I am wondering if anyone can comment about Catalyst vs Recoil (not best but how they compare)? The Apex is a little thick when I look down BUT the overall head shape makes it still look GREAT! I love the shape of these things!

$ taper is my favorite shaft over the last couple of years. In short think C taper flight and KBS tour feel

But also a lot less spin - would seem to be for the player who loves KBS Tour feel, but had trouble with ballooning.

Sorry guess I should have been more clear. C taper flight and performance with KBS feel. Yes. Much less spin than the KBS Tour. Much like the C taper. I spin my 7i with $ taper 130 perfectly. Between 6-7k

Nothing is safe in my bag!
