Anybody still using 2 iron thru PW?

With an overwhelming number of posts on another thread about how many people have moved away from the standard 3 through PW, I am curious as to how many are still playing a 2 through PW set. Driving irons count, as they "helpful" long irons. I use a TMB 2 iron w/Pro White and my 3 thru PW are 718CB's w/Project X LZ. Anybody else still carry to the deuce?

Yes. I don't use fairway woods but occasionally swap out my 2 iron for a hybrid.

I carry a T-MB 2 then 3-9/4-9 in AP2's. The 3 iron stays in for some of the longer courses in my area but is swapped out for an additional wedge on the shorter tracks.

Right now I'm carrying a tm p790 3 iron bent to 18° with dg s300 shaft. But I'm carrying a traditional 4-pw (24°-46°) in my MP-54 set. Basically I'm skipping my 3 iron loft (21°), but I consider my p790 a traditional 2 iron with a #3 iron label.

 

If or when I do bag my MP-54 3 iron, and keep the p790 3 iron, I'd have 2 "3" irons, one at 18° and the other at 21°. I really do not ever foresee me playing with that setup, I'd have to drop my 60°, and that's not happening.

I carry my Mizuno mpH5 2 iron then 4 thru wedge. Love my 2 iron.

Yes. My 2 iron is used to prop open my garage door. My 3 iron is used to dig under my workbench and fish out dropped tools. My 4 iron is used to dig up my wife's garden so that she can plant more weeds.

Yep, really enjoy my 2 iron. It's crazy long and dead straight!

 

I tend to have big misses with hybrids, and overall don't like the look/feel. Seems like that fugly left miss is always prevalent w/ hybrids.

Yea playing with a weak 2 at 18 deg with 40.25 inch in length, then 4-p. Still hav my 3 hybrid for yakky lies though.

I play a set in a way, 2-5 TMB, 6-9 AP2,Vokey 46,50 and 56. Its a good set up for me.

Last year, my 3I-GW went 19º to 48º

 

20 years ago, my 2I-PW went 20º to 49º

It depends on course layout and distance. If I am playing a longer course (6800+ yards) and I need more control off the tee I will play driver, 3+ wood 2-Pw then wedges, if it’s a shorter course pull the 2 or 3 iron for another wedge.

 

If the fairways are tight then I usually opt for more iron choices of the tee.

 

My home course has lots of dog legs where a certain distance is needed so having the long irons is a must.

Yep. 2-SW with a Gap as well, and Driver, 3-wood. I'll probably pick up a 5 when I switch to a new set, but nothing I play currently really demands it. Hard to beat the feel of a two off the tee into the fairway.

2 and 3 in mp18 Mmc fli hi px LZ 6.5, then 4-pw in mp18 sc with regular px 6.5, then 52 and 58. I’ve got a new 4/5w on the way to fill the gap between 2i and driver.

 

I didn’t sacrifice a wedge to allow this setup, the decision to consolidate down to two wedges came first, and a side effect was that it opened up another club for me.

2i-PW here. 2i being a DI that I use mostly off the tee but can hit well off the turf too. I like traditional lofts - my 3 iron is 22*

2-E on my Apex blades at home, but the 2 started recently misbehaving and I benched it so I could get a little more range time with it. When benched, I add a 5w or 2hi, but I feel more confident with a 2 iron than a wood, even if the 2 isn’t working.

Have had 2-pw in the bag for 20+ years. I can hook a hybrid off then planet, but the 2 iron is a fairway finder on tight courses. If I ever changed I would probably drop the 3 iron and add another wedge.

Same, sometime swap 2 iron for hybrid but it usually goes back to 2 iron pretty quick. my wedges are 52 and 58.

Back in the previous century (literally) I played MacGregor MT irons for 20 years. The set ran 2i-10i, and the MacG 2i had 21* loft.

 

Now, my backup bag with TM gear has a SLDR 4i with a 21* loft. So, if I x-ray the 4i head, will it show "2" (for 2i) under the chrome?

 

So, I'm not sure if I sometimes play a 2i or not!

I’ve been some form of 2-P for about last decade. I count my 4-G set as a 3-P though due to lofts

 

Always play a utility style 2/3 iron. I get fun with selecting which utility iron to use depending on conditions. I also often carry different models at the 2-3-4 spot

I did until I bought a set last year that didn't have a 2-iron, and I'm not even that good a player. But when you play off tight lies in lots of wind, a 5 wood doesn't do you that much good. A good old fashioned 2-iron is still great for advancing the ball on long par-5s into the wind, if nothing else.

I like the 2-pw set. I feel like have more control with a 2 iron off the tee and into greens on par 5s. Today’s game improvement clubs have 2 iron loft,,but are easy to hit straight

If I could find a set of older Mizzy blades (2-pw) in good condition, I would dump everything I currently have in a second.
