NEW MACGREGOR IRON AND WEDGES

Recommended Posts

Hello Reid,

I stopped to say hello and thank you for posting here. You were working with a "real" customer at the time - so I'll have to be satisfied with thanking you virtually :clapping:

I was very pleased to see that the MacGregor room was pretty busy with merchants - I saw at least two who had no MacGregor accounts looking to open accounts. Hopefully that is a sign of things to come...

Why?

Just one more reason to support your smaller local retailers.
[/quote]

Cause I work there and if we dont carry it, I can't get it at a discount, and where I'm at there are no smaller stores really.

did anyone see pics of the gunmetal finish on the Pro M/C at the Show? Or did they only have wedges to show in that finish?

I'm also interested in any pics of the Gunmetal finish. Mr. Gorman, any chance you could fulfill our wishes (like you haven't enough already). Hope all is going well with the roll-out and launch. Any problems during ramp-up? I know how chaotic New Product Introduction can be, but it looks like Mac has done some great consumer research and has put an excellent sourcing strategy in place. I am very excited to get a chance to demo some of these.

Once again, thanks for our attention to this community. Keeps adicts like me hoping for an early spring here in Central Illinois.
Matt

Just yesterday, I surprisingly heard my first real "ah, they were so-so" opinion on the irons. A head pro friend of mine was down there at the show last week. He said they looked and felt good. Not great, not bad, but he certainly "wasn't overwhelmed." He said his personal favorites were the MP-57 with PX shafts and the Adams Idea pro gold. This is coming from a guy who is the best player I have ever personally played with multiple times.

That being said, I'm still very determined to hit the Pro M's and C's as soon as I can and make my own judgement.

Personally, I wouldn't call either one of those choices an "apples to apples" comparison of the Mac's.

I don't see anywhere in the OP's post that he said it was an "apples to apples" comparison, whatever that means. Comparing the Pro C to other players' cavity backs certainly seems like a fair comparison. :man_in_love:

No club is going to be the Bee's Knees for all players. The real news is that so many players are fawning over MacG's new lines.

An "apples to apples" comparison is a juxtaposition of several similar things, as opposed to things in different categories, market sectors, etc.

Comparing the Pro C to other players' cavity back irons is a fair comparison. However, the Mizuno and Adams offerings aren't in the same category as the Pro M, and therefore don't provide a good basis for comparison.

I'd be interested to hear how the Pro Ms fared against other blade offerings from any company.

Herm33- did your golf professional friend compare the Pro Ms side by side with blades offered from other manufacturers? If so, please relate to us his findings. :D

MacGregor is DEFINITELY stepping up their game! Bravo! I feel like they're back to where they were 10 years ago (when I was 7 LOL). :man_in_love:

I hit them at the PGA Show. Great feeling irons for sure. Call it what it is. One of the best design team available going after Mizuno for the iron bid. Interesting. I love the fight.

Don White is one of the last greats. Ask anyone in the industry. I have been in it for years and everyone knows he that good. Really good to see MacGregor giving him the green light.

Look at the lines. You can see his work in there. Smooth and refined. No sharp edges on the top or neck. Great sole grinds also.

I was told by the local rep just back from the show that the gunmetal finish will only be in the CB's. This was the word from the Company. The MacGregor website still says the MBs & CBs will be available in gunmetal in limited quantities. I'm very disappointed they aren't bringing out the MBs in gunmetal. I don't understand that at all.

According to Mr. Gorman, both the CB's and MB's will be available in gunmetal along with the wedges. I also hope the stamping on the irons in the gunmetal match the gunmetal wedges (silver stamping I believe)- looks very classy! I don't love the black/red ferrule though. A matching black/silver would look nicer.

I just ordered two of the DW Pro wedges in 52 & 58 degree lofts w/rifle spinner shafts. I'll be ordering a combo set (3-6 Pro C, 7-PW Pro M) in a few weeks with flighted rifle 6.0 or flighted project x 5.5. Haven't made up my mind yet. I have two sets of 685 MACTECs w/flighted rifle and I really like them. I'll be selling one set and keeping the other as my travel set. I recently sold a pristine set of 1025m VIPs to make way for these MTs after I saw them here on this thread. Can't wait to get them on the course. I think a trip to Pinehurst might be in order for this summer.
