NEW MACGREGOR IRON AND WEDGES

Recommended Posts
i believe one of my favorite manfacturers, prior to going under, did a study and found a really well designed set of forged irons plays as well as a forged cavity back. unfortunatly ACCUFORM is long gone from their days wheb davis love iii and joey sindilar used them. my point is i dont think they need to be biggere, then they are just clunky looking like the x20 tours.
I would agree that a well designed forged muscle back blade is just as forgiving as a well designed cavity back and feels better also. These however are going to suprise many mid and some low handicappers at how small they are and that includes the cavity back.. ACCUFORM produced some nice looking irons but I don't think they ever produced a set of forged carbon steel irons. Mostly casting (I had the same set that Joey Sindilar (canadian made) used and they weren't forged) and a couple of tries at forged stainless steel--sort of like the old kenneth smith forged stainless irons.

I just got two of the NVG2 draw 15* three woods over the Christmas holidays. Both with the stock stiff shaft and they are monstrous long off the tee and fairway. Great clubs, much better than the standard NVG2 in appearance and performance. It's a shame Macgregor discontinued them and the 685 MACTEC irons as they both just came out for 2007 and are fantastic products. I had heard that Don White designed the 685s, anybody know if that's true? I've got two sets and they are great looking irons.

I'm glad to see the Macgregor Golf site is finally updated. The site itself is still pretty plain compared to other OEM's. It's just going to be an uphill climb without a Tour Pro like Badds on their roster to promote their new clubs.

With all these new goodies coming out this year, I need to see pics of Richard's and Ryan's finished irons before deciding on getting the Pro-M's. I like that modified Elk grind. Looks sweet.

The new putters look sweet. Does anyone have any idea what the retail will be on them?

Looks like everything theyre bringing to the market looks awesome!!!!!!
They have alot of different types of irons for anyone and everyone. Wow I'm impressed even with the hat.

Next thing they need to do is finish the site completely, upload some more pictures of different angles, and schedule alot of demo days.

Good luck MacGregor!!!

I believe Mr. Gorman said retail on the putters will be $129.00.

I'm not so sure I like the statement claiming added offset in the PRO-C irons.

I thought they were the same as the blades and designed for good players.

True, and unless I'm reading this incorrectly, it looks to me that campared to the VIP tours, this CB has a larger head and more offset. Not against the blade counterpart.

The Mt forged and the Mt -mid

Still really liking the look of the MT ; will have try the MT- mid as well ( although not a forged iron)

kinda dissappointed that MacGregor strengthened the lofts on the irons , again.

the MT iron is designed for a low to mid cap.

Question: what the heck am I [a mid cap] supposed to do with a 19 degree three iron ??

( a good stake for the tomato plants in the garden, perhaps)

They have pictures of the Pro-C irons at the beginning of this topic that shows how much offset they really have. They don't have much at all. I would expect these new MacGregors, going back to their forged roots, to be a better iron than the recent Mizunos.

I'm not sure what they are now even though I had great hopes for them based on the earlier pictures.

They offer mixed blade and CB sets, but that wouldn't seem to make sense or encourage a smooth transition between the 2 types, if the CBs have more offset.

I have never understood why there is only 3 degrees difference between the low irons in the blades. 4 degree gaps with a 48 deg PW seems pretty sensible. A 47 degree PW is a bit strong for blades, imho.

Yes, the Sunset model looks pretty good one of the best Bobby Grace putters I have seen in some time. I can't wait to see the rest of the putters in the Suncoast series though. I can see one of these in my bag soon.

Just got back to the hotel after the demo day. MacG is for real.

The ProM and ProC are awesome to hit and Scott at MacGregor insisted we hit the MT off the toe to see what happens and sure enough, amazingly forgiving. And the MT is the mid capper model that is not clunky at all.

Back to the ProM - fantastic ball flight and control with S300 shafts. We were hitting on a pretty windy day and in comparison to other setups Macgregor was in the worse wind possible, a strong left to right. But no problem. About the ProC, a great setup, I never noticed an offset issue, so if it is more than the ProM, it's hard to tell. A combo set transitions very well.

The new MT 460 driver is quite nice, sets up fairly square. It was shafted with the new Aldila DVS (great shaft, by the way). This is a great combo. About that big wind going left to right - well, no problem hitting a driver holding up against the wind and going nice and straight.

I went to the PGA Show and hit all the new MacGregor stuff. All I can say is...WOW. The irons, wedges, and hybrids are bomb. So solid and responsive. The MB's are on the list for "next in the bag". The wedges were so pure and the hybrid was just long. Very sonartec like, but with better feel. The driver and woods were nice, I just couldn't get used to them for some reason. still very solid but different. All in all I was very impressed with the new stuff and can't wait to have the irons as soon as mine bite the dust. I'm hoping to get the MB's in 3-P and a CB 2 iron.
