Matching the Green Jacket

I admit, I'm sitting on the west coast waiting for the coverage to fire up, but I have thought of this in years past....

Two Questions:

Does matching your Sunday outfit, while in contention, jinx your chances?

 

Assuming you have the confidence to disregard the first paradox, what do you wear?

 

My Answers:

Maybe.

 

I think I have to go with a pale blue shirt, almost like an oxford cloth color, with a pair of summer weight tan wool trousers. Chocolate lizard skin belt with matching white and brown saddle shoes. Might even wear a white visor so my hair looks good when Fatty McReed holds the sleeves open for me.

 

Indulge me fellas, now I gotta go check and see if the first featured group is streaming yet :)

Polyester periwinkle blue slacks, bright white shoes and Coral Polo... Doesn't matter what fabric they make the green jacket in, it still looks cheap.

I think Jack always wore a yellow shirt. If I'm not mistaken (and I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) the players who are sponsored by clothing company's like Nike have their outfits planned out for all four rounds by the company.

Not always. Mostly 68-71 Sundays at tournaments. Got it out again in ‘86. Yellow sweater in ‘72 at Masters, but only 1 yellow shirt win at Augusta.

Oh there was a great article on this. https://www.golfdigest.com/story/masters-2019-i-got-wardrobe-scripted-for-a-major-and-my-head-is-still-spinning The players do have input on what they will bear wearing. In the article he touches on how Jason Day gave up on the Addidas scripting where all of the guys were going to be in one colour and all matching after the first day. That guys will change the wardrobe lineup so it will match a green jacket.

When I went I noticed a lot of the members wear yellow ties and it does look good. Wanna say Watson and Spieth both wore yellow ties at the winners dinner. If these guys are picking their outfits to match the coat most are doing a poor job.

Adam Scott looked sharp with his white shirt. Reed looked terrible with the pink shirt last year. I think I'd def try to coordinate if I was in the position.

I loved that Tiger was rocking the turtle neck mock this week, the Sunday red mock brought back some great memories.

Danny Willet got it right in the photo above. All shades of green look fine together. Think of a beautiful garden or forest. More should go for that look. Also the company stylists who do the outfit scripting should think about the winner’s photos

@blairheel that photo, on every telecast, every newspaper is exactly my impetus for the thread... we'll have to agree to disagree about green on green

 

it's a traditional event, traditional membership and crowd generally, I go with a pastel shirt, tan, or brown, pants.

Here it is. Green on green. Nature’s palette. I think it works with the green jacket. Tiger’s fire engine red and Reed’s bright pink last year were horrible

I love green. Spent most of my life in forests. BUT.... haha.

 

I still have to go with tan pants and a pink or blue shirt. Pastel of course.

my school colors are green and white so it's a no-brainer for me..

Yellow, light blue, pink (most shades) and white. Light purple may not be bad but ti would look pretty Easter-y. Tan or navy slacks.

 

Red I think makes you look like you are going to a swanky Christmas party. (I wouldn't tell Tiger that though.)

In 1986 he wore yellow for Craig Smith. It just so happened that it looked really good with the green jacket.

Most colors can work with green, just like flowers come in many colors but the leaves and stems are usually green. What might not work is a Riddler green leotard with question marks all over it.

I have also read/heard that our brains retain information at a higher rate when it is written/printed on green paper. Black ink on white paper is the worst combination.

Definitely some guys see wearing green as a jinx.

I remember David Duval wearing a dark green polo carefully selected for the final round by Tommy Hilfiger just for the occasion, but when he lost at the end to O'Meara the next contender in green was years later when Oosthuizen lost to Bubba despite the Albatross on #2.

Danny "One Hit Wonder" Willett is the only guy I can recall winning in green in the last 20 years.
