Heritage Ranch is a really fun course to play. One of my favorite public courses in the North Dallas area.

Heritage Ranch today was nice even with all the wind and cold this morning.  I guess a bonus on Sundays you get a $15 credit to use on what ever you want.

I have never played either of these courses but Tangle Ridge in Grand Prairie gets decent reviews and there Is an Irving Golf Club. These are public courses and I didn't know for sure if you were talking public courses only.

Hey guys, a question for the history buffs here. Well sort of.

 

I'm reading a book called Chasing the Dream by Harry Hurt.  The book talks about Q school in 1995, and the 1st stage(the he was in) was in McKinney at a place called The Ranch.  Is that now called Stonebridge Ranch, or does it no longer exist?  Friend of mine is looking at McKinney as a possible site for a move later this year, and so I've gotten a bit interested in the place.  Just wondered about this place.

Probably Craig's Ranch which will be hosting the Bryon Nelson this year.

Craig Ranch was built in 2004 so that is not it.  I think you were correct with Stonebridge Ranch.

I've played Fossil recently. It was in good shape a couple weeks ago, if a little slow.

BULLETS whizzing overhead hitting the tree tops. Pretty sure someone stopped on pipeline and was just firing into space. But still. 
 

which brings me to 20 years ago on the same course, on 2, someone driving west on mossier valley rd between the course and landfill, firing a pistol into the course as he drove by.

I know I'm crazy late to this thread, just found it. 

 

But maybe a year and a half ago, I was playing Bear Creek East, and it was getting pretty late. I rolled up to the green on 14, and there were two dudes posted up on the 15 tee box with what I assume was a .50 Cal on a tripod firing down the fairway like it was a range LOL. Very unexpected.

I haven't played in 6 months and am very streaky since I travel a lot for work (4x a week for a few months and then 6 months off), but Split Rail is where I play 90% of the time when I'm home.  How often do you play out there?

Usually Sundays after church with my boss and a couple buddies. Such a great course and facility

4 of us are traveling to Dallas/FW area for some golf on the 3/5. How bad were the courses affected in the area due to the cold/snow? Any long term shutdowns of courses?

Texas Star was OK condition but nothing like it usually is.  Green still rolled well just slower with all the rain the last couple of days.  Bright side is played in 3:20 with no one on the course.

Jealous.  I haven’t played a round in DFW in  under 4 hours for about 12 months.

Really?  Where do you usually play and at what times?  I will say that the pace of play has improved a ton the last year.  We usually play Sunday mornings 8-9 and are always at 4 hours and maybe a little under.

TStar yesterday had really slow hairy greens. Not the norm for sure.

Pecan Hollow today and it is still super wet everywhere.  By the back nine the greens started to roll better but still slower than normal.

That’s funny. I played there Thursday and it’s was 90 degree rule dry and greens had some good  speed. So glad February is in the rear view.

Playing in the North Texas Mid Am at Twin Creeks in 2.5 weeks. Going to play the course once or twice before the event. Any general advice about the course is welcomed. Thanks

Played Bridlewood yesterday. Overall the course is in decent shape but the greens were rolling about a 2 on the stimp. Slowest greens I have played in years.

I think a lot of the public courses are going to have slow greens right now.  A combination of the grass coming in and probably soft as well.

Agree.  Played Waterchase yesterday.  Slowest I can remember the greens being in quite a while.  Great shape.  Just slow.  Tierra Verde's greens have been slower than normal as well.

Has anyone played White Bluff Resort since they reopened after some renovations a couple of years ago?

FYI, slow greens are probably due to them letting them recover from the huge cold snap in February. Our club superintendent sent out and email explaining it all. Some won't know if the greens will die off in spots until we hit April / May.

Moving to North Texas (McKinney) in 1 week and looking for some courses to try out.  I've seen Heritage Ranch mentioned a few times.  Any others worth a mention locally?

Played Trails of Frisco yesterday afternoon. Greens were very slow but in decent condition. Things are starting to green up but still a bunch of dormant brown grass all over the course.

Played Fossil Creek Saturday.  What has happened to that course?  Greens were ROCK hard and so untrue as to bump bump bump a 2 footer off line by a whole cup.  Love the layout, but probably won't be back again before summer or fall when we are just tired of our other mainstays.  I'm not sure it's in condition to charge $40, much less the almost $90 that we paid.  And it was covered up full.  I just don't get it.
