Don't get me wrong....90% of touring pros have integrety and great character but there are that 10%...

I know that there is club rules and course rules but where is the gimme in he rules book?

I started this thread because I don't like hypocrites. People taking the morale high ground when the game is disrespected by the bulk of it's patrons....….I will remind them again at the next outrage.

In professional golf, when you think of the sheer numbers.

Given How many are playing, and how few big issues there have been, it’s pretty staggering that there haven’t been more cheating issues given the odds of honesty/dishonesty in society.

 

Nothing is squeaky clean, but a Reed situation stands out for a reason I guess......or hope

I dont think its hypocritical I just think its foolish. We have ample evidence that people will try to get away with things if they can. In sports, business etc....for all the people that get caught there are more that get away with it. To presume golfers are more honorable than others, is just foolish....not hypocritical

Reed tried and got caught. He isn't the worst human on the planet. But he deserves some scrutiny and bad press if only to create a reason for others not to try this in the future

As far as the threads go....they are as usual, full of people who I would say probably "doth protest too much".....if there is anyone that can be trusted as little as someone who committed an infraction , its usually the person who is wayyyyyyy over the top in condemning it

Patrick Reed attempted to cheat and got caught. With that said the idea that Golf is a game of integrity is hilarious, especially considering the roots of golf and how minorities were treated in the game (and still are in some situations and countries).

There is a huge difference between a bunch of hackers out playing for fun who all use the same "rule book " and a professional golfer who is literally taking money out of his fellow competitors pockets.

If a group of amateurs all agree on one "breakfast ball" ,2 foot gimmees, using water balls for shots over water etc. and they all play by the same rules for fun - so what? These same dudes absolutely have the right to call Patrick Reed a cheater because he is doing something all of his fellow competitors have not agreed to - cheat !!

Don't compare the integrity of your casual weekend foursome with a professional golfer. If they cheat at their day jobs - steal from the company or whatever - sure then they are just as bad.

I get your point to a point. Lot of very solid golfers out there that play for fun, no need to cast aspersions generally. For example gimmes in a friendly keep the pace moving nicely. It's actually a common courtesy. Doesn't make one less a player.

It's one of the least hypocritical games you can play. It's like life some people are honest or dishonest (This is where the hypocrisy lies.) There are no pictures and its all about numbers. I guess you could get a bad break or draw but thats just the nature of existence.

Agree with this guy. Hypocritical typically has to do with morals or the holier than you argument and judgment. Typically someone who is hypocritical is lacking in self awareness or just doesn't give a damn. John Rockefeller went to church twice every Sunday yet he was described as an SOB in the business world according to a lot of people.

Patrick Reed did not cheat. At worst he tried to cheat and was caught and given a two shot penalty. At best he wasn't aware....and still  received a two shot penalty.

We'll have to agree to disagree then  … in my view Patrick Reed attempted to improve his lie. His ball was in a depression in a waste area - he moved sand behind the ball - twice - to get better access to the back of the ball.

Anyone would notice they are moving sand - forget this BS about tour pros possessing great feel - a 25 handicapper would have noticed it. He did too - hence he tried to cheat.

Even with a little cheating... you still have to hit your shot... which you are very likely to mess up. Tough game either way. The beauty is you cant cheat too hard because it gets obviously reflected in the score... no way he shot 84 the way he was hitting it today. Am i right?
