SIM driver guys - talk about it

One round in with my SIM 10.5 and I'm pretty impressed so far. Took me a little bit to get used to it. I need more time to tinker with it, but I was hitting some really nice shots with it. Nice draws and the longest drive to date, according to Arccos. The draws I hit aren't as controllable as I would like but I'll need to play with the settings. Currently slide weight is set to max fade, length is at 44.75", and using Ventus Blue with Velocore. Looking forward to playing with it some more!

How do my toe strikers like this club? That’s my miss and in the past, for some reason, Taylormade drivers have given me fits on toe strikes. Absolute dive bombers. I heard Ian from TXG say the SIM has helped his toe strikes tremendously so I’m curious to hear if others have that experience as well. I have the Cobra SZ and I gotta say it’s probably the most forgiving driver on toe strikes I’ve ever owned. Thanks!

Toe strike is my miss and have found my misses more forgiving than most other drivers I have used, even compared to my old Ping G410 plus. I do have weight towards toe (same on the Ping) and face set open for reference.

Almost any other club, including my old driver. On fact my miss with most other clubs is a hook with the occasional push.

It's all swing tho I'm sure. I just have to get used to the feel of this thing. I have tried to put ugly swing on it just to make it go left and I have proven I can get it to hook pretty hard. Just gotta find that mid ground. That being said I have NEVER gotten this head to "draw" ... Fade/slice/hook, yes

That being said the fades aren't bad. Just with me used to playing a certain way, aiming where I'm used to aiming, it puts me just in the rough. I just can't get comfortable aiming to the left hand side just yet.

The SIM appears to be quite fade biased in terms of CG, and moving the weight toe side only increases this. That combined with with Twist Face should be very helpful with the toe miss despite the head's fairly middling MOI. Lots of TM drivers in the past, particularly the SLDR, were known for their dive bomb toe shots. Low MOI + a draw CG bias is a nightmare for the the toe strike, and I think this one of the reasons they have made the SIM as fade biased as it is.

That was exactly my problem and the SIM with the weight in the toe really fixed it for me. My miss is still toe shots but they don't dive bomb nearly as much and the distance losses aren't as pronounced.

I've got an in to out swing and have been working on a "fade out of the heel" type swing which (when successful) feels so pure

Why do you get a draw when swinging outside to in?

Had a good day with the Sim Max today. I realize I must swing like John Daly. I get a lot of time getting the clubface back to a good place that way. My back is better since just playing 9 holes the last days so I fear I will be back in frustration land soon again when I can´t rotate properly again.

Looking for some advice, buying a new driver for first time and I'm torn between a 9* or 10.5* SIM head. Been to 2 fittings and liked both but it was with range balls.

Currently AOA 2-3* down, clubhead speed 115-120 on avg. Launch with 10.5 head was averaging 11*. 9 head felt good but only hit a few at the end of first fit. Working on a swing change to start hitting up on the ball and want a driver setup i can roll with currently and hopefully also when i get to neutral/upwards AOA.

Thoughts?

That will largely depend on your preference regarding face angle. 11* launch is already just a touch on the low side, but that will come up quickly if you neutralize your delivery. If you prefer a neutral to closed face angle, then the 9* would be the better option as you can turn it up for now and bring it back down as your AoA increases. If you prefer a more neutral to open face angle, then the 10.5* is the choice as you can leave it neutral now and turn it down as your AoA comes up.

Worse driving day since I've gotten SIM-TASTIC.....mostly user error as I got cocky trying to hit shots that I don't have nor do I need....

I hit 9/13 fwys; 3 on front leading to a 41 and all 6 on the back leading to a 2 under 33.....

With my slower swing speed, being in play is essential ...... the setup I'm in allows for just a center cut type of accuracy that's completely gratifying.

The SIM is extremely long... played it this weekend at 9* with TP6HD Ozik shaft and averaged 305 yards off the tee. Sprayed a few compared to my G400 LST which i couldn't miss with prior. Still getting used to after 2 rounds with the SIM. Dialing in phase. :

Played it at 10.5 Standard lie 56.5

then 9.0 at 57.25

Set now at 9.75 at 59.5 for the next round.

I don't do range hitting. All my practice are drills at home. I see the SIM being in the bag for years to come.

For those of you that are using a counterbalance shaft, that ends up having a high balance point. (I’m currently gaming Rogue White 130 70TX) How much weight we’re you adding to the head to get it back into a playable swingweight?

My Raw Head (Regular Sim 9) weighed 196-197 and I needed to add like 16-17 grams to get it back to D3.5-D4.

has anyone else needed to add roughly 15-20 grams?

I prefer my drivers shorter/heavier so I regularly add a decent amount of weight, nothing weird about that. The Rogue White TX balance point will contribute to around a 2-3 swingweight point decrease, and these slightly lighter heads are meant to help keep the swing weight under control (D5) with the stock 45.75" playing length. If you cut it down to say 44.5" (C7.5) and then factored in the swing weight point decrease from the shaft (~C5) then you would need around 15g to get back to the range you're talking about. Is that close to what you're doing? If you were playing it 45" then a heavier grip could account for the same swingweight numbers.

Yeah that’s right in the neighborhood of what I was trying to accomplish. I am playing at 44.75, and it was at like C6 or something stock weight. Just glad I wasn’t the only one, and didn’t want to be crazy by adding 15-20 grams of head weight to get to where I need to be!

Recently got fitted for Sim Max D. In the fitting all my nasty misses that should be a huge slice were a playable fade.

3 rounds on the course and I cannot get it to work. Usually a huge hook with 1/8 good shots and 1/8 big slice. Strange as it seems pretty consistent on the range or on the simulator, straight or small draw or fade.

Might have to put the Fusion back in the bag, that was doing better with 3/4 good, 1/4 big slice. But I think I will keep trying a little longer first.

Yup, that is pretty much exactly what I would do and how much weight i'd be adding. I just weighed my Taylormade M1 430 head which is setup with a pretty counterbalanced shaft at 44.75" and its 211g, so 15g heavier than your stock SIM. The only thing you may consider is the tipping that should accompany that weight, about 1/2" for every 10g to follow the general rule of thumb in addition to whatever is appropriate for your swing/feel.
