European Tour - Ongoing tournament *Spoiler*

Since the tournaments often are pretty small a thread like this might be suitable. To start a new thread for a small tournament people won't do but its still fun to discuss those.

Cyprus now. Cannot remember I have seen a tournament from Cyprus. But the Island courses normally are pretty spectacular with sea views and so.  Gonna watch the TV coverage later today.
Corona also creates really decent Fields inspite of low price fund.  Names enough to make me wanna watch it.

So are we talking about, or not talking about, this tournament that shall not be named? 😉

Just no need to start a new thread for every small european tour event, one can just continue here. At the moment, and next week, Cyprus is the venue.

Having one thread like this for a smaller tour is a concept that works fine elsewhere. Without a common thread noone would start a thread for the smaller tournaments, which still might be fun to discuss.Thats the idea anyways.

I understand your thinking but I think every Euro Tour event deserves a thread, big or small!  If this one works - great!

The Shinkwin eagle on 18 was great. And now Fleetwood and Willett has been defeated in incomprehsible English. What dialect is that? He's almost in Jimenez class.

Lol. Callum is from Watford in Herts. It's not so much that he has a particularly rich regional accent, but that he has a somewhat staccato manner of speaking, punctuated with regular filler phrases such as "You know".

He has a similar accent to Tom Lewis (welwyn), Nick faldo (also wgc), Poulter (Stevenage) and luke Donald (hemel).

These are all within 20 miles of each other.

Hertfordshire - the true home of English Golf!!

Sir Nick, IJP and Luuke do all have the English of an Al Jazeera news anchor, so yes I guess it most be other parameters than the geographical one. The english speaking english seem to be the most comprehensible and the least comprehensible. Yanks are all pretty understandable, in post round interviews, by a scandinavian preferring subtitles when English is spoken on TV. Most understandable is probably Rahm, so actually the spaniards eclipse the english for max/min understandable golf player. Scandinavians speaking swenglish are horrible to hear. Stenson...

This week, same course. I like that. Now holes are familiar, and that course Aphrodite was rather spectacular.  Unsurprisingly pretty much the same field as last week, I see that the more successful twin Höjgård has returned from his US adventure for a weekend of golf by the mediterranean. I could live with that too.

Not sure on this new format, will be hard to top last weekend when so many guys were in contention on Sunday. I guess hope for a repeat, but if one guy runs away with it would make for some boring coverage with only 16 players. Guess that's not too likely on a course like this though.

Well, with the scores being reset, it should put everyone back in contention, or at least avoiding a solo run

And they reset the scores on Saturday and Sunday. Could make it interesting though, I like that the schedule allows for a decent time here in West Oz, finish around 10pm or so.

That’s interesting man.

So, reset on Sunday as well. Wonder how that influences the play. You shoot a 62 and it’s great but, besides advancing you, it means nothing the next day.

It’s like a “wildcard” situation in other sports terms. You can be the worst team to advance but if you do, you have an equal shot to win.

True, but again, I think it's more the fact, as mentioned, they are at the same course for a second week in a row.  I suspect going to another course would have meant a regular event.

Was this on the schedule before or after they played the consecutive weeks at the Belfry(or was it another course?).

Do your remember the old International event at Castle Pines on the PGA Tour that used the modified stableford scoring system? For the first few years of the event it came down to who scored the most points in the final round after cutting people though the first 3 rounds. Similar in some ways to this ET event. More players began the event on the PGA Tour than the ET of course. This event on the ET only began with 105 players.

So it ended up not being much different than a regular event, IMO. It was kind of interesting with the 2nd cut on Saturday, the last 2 guys Bland and Green could have really changed the fate of a couple of guys (along with themselves of course). Bland making birdie would have knocked out 3 guys at -3. But if Green had somehow made his eagle putt, he would have knocked them out and also forced Bland to make his birdie putt. But neither of those things happened.

Well, I thought it was quite an interesting idea that panned out pretty well.

Good winner as well.

Was spitballing on a UK forum that this (or something like it) might work for the fedex.

As for language, there was some lovely Anglo Saxon to go with hankshank's scandi swearing from callum shinkwin...

Great to see Bob getting the win. Not the most glamorous event or star studded field but hopefully a good stepping stone for him.

  • 2 weeks later...

Tour goes down to South Africa. With the travelling restrictions, obviously fewer non-africans than usual. But still a decent field in Johannesburg. Maybe most surprised to see so few of the top south africans, Schwartzel and Oosthuzen normally does do very well on home soil.

Randpark, that does not ring a bell for me.

But all in all, the tournaments down there are normally quite enjoyable. Last year the bermudas tournament at Mpumalanga was maybe the most memorable. The Dunhill is a tournament I do enjoy every year.
