Ashworth Golf Comeback?

Anyone know anything about this? I was a HUGE Ashworth guy back in the day. Wonder if they will come back with some more contemporary looks?

Unless they make some serious changes I don't know that they would survive in today's style market and appeal to a younger generation of golfers. They were thriving in the 90s and early 2000s when everyone was wearing 500% cotton shirts that looked 2 sizes too big, but they never really updated their offerings once the trend of more appropriately fitting clothing came about. I think they tried by signing guys like Justin Rose, but that didn't work out.

 

I know personally I'll always remember them as the company that made shirts like this.

I really liked Ashworth too. When adidas was phasing it out, I remember some great deals. Those polos are still some of my favorites in the wardrobe. Quality materials and timeless styles. I haven't been as impressed with adiPure taking over that part of their lineup. And like @flogmat said, their logo was awesome.

I didn't know Taylormade sold Ashworth to some company that collects clothing brands and tries to turn them around, such as J. Lindeberg.

My guess is that brand will be reduced from Golf Specialty stores and green grass accounts to be readily available at your local Walmart or Target.

Ashworth was thee shirt and brand back in the late 89’s and 90’s.   Had Freddie, Els, Cook and a few others wearing it but Freddie being the poster boy.   Great quality albeit oversized but so were most at that time.   The quality went to hell with the sale to Adidas.

I got an email today, but there wasn't much info about the "new" Ashworth.  Just info about updating the old styles, etc.  Would like to find out more.

Sometimes when you're the very, very best at what you do, it can prevent you from being "nimble" and staying current.  Ashworth was solid gold when the gold standard of golf polos was 100% cotton, but the market changed FAST.  Now, when I'm about to buy a shirt in a pro shop, I check to make sure it is NOT 100% cotton.  I wouldn't have believed that would ever happen, and apparently, Ashworth didn't either.

Ashworth is to me, the definition of 90’s golf wear. A shirt that was so big you had enough material to make a second or third shirt. It would be cool to see the logo make a return that is for sure.

I have loved Ashworth shirts for years.  When they went out of business I bought about 30-40 from TGW when they were blowing them out ($10-$15 a shirt).  I'd love to see them make a comeback while maintaining their prior quality.

Agreed, Q.  Seems similar in price point and style to Peter Millar.  Problem is, they don't have the kind of rep in the marketplace that Millar currently has.  I think it's going to be tough sledding.

Tough indeed. I hope the best for them, but I feel they should have jumped back in just under that group..

Just give it 6-12 months and you'll be able to find them for $19.99 at your local TJ Maxx.

There was a fantastic interview/podcast about the history of Ashworth by Matt Ginella. I think anyone who remembers golf during the 90s would enjoy it. Includes Fred Couples, Jim Nantz and of course John Ashworth himself.

Hope they can make a go of it, but so far the options just don't look all that appealing at the listed prices.
