Golf companies based in Texas?

I just want to support some local golf manufacturers in Texas, particularly ones that make irons.

 

I can't think of any other than the Ben Hogan Golf company based in Fort Worth. Does anybody know of any others?

I've definitely heard of Artisan, but they don't make irons. They also are probably out of my price range.

Edel Golf is based in Liberty Hill, TX.  Been there for a fitting years ago.

I know it’s not irons but best grips is a great company out of Texas. I’d give them a try

Although known for putters Piretti makes irons and wedges, never hit them personally though so not sure how they are but their putters are great.

There just aren't many people our there making golf equipment other than the big names. Those that do exist usually place themselves in the super-premium category, so I'd just set your expectations that going local for golf equipment is going to be expensive. Most of the small-shops seem to focus on putters and accessories (grips, head covers, etc.), probably because the manufacturing is relatively straightforward compared to irons and especially woods. 

 

Here are the ones I know of based in Texas:

• Ben Hogan - Basically a big brand. While they have a HQ in Fort Worth and assemble everything there, they are owned by Chicago based PE firm and the heads are all made in China. Not how much that would matter to you. 
• Artisan - putters, wedges, irons (soon)
• Piretti - putters, wedges, irons
• Edel - putters, wedges, irons
• Best Grips - grips, head covers
• Ricky Johnson - putters

Might be missing some others...

I'm also 90% certain Edison Wedges are based in Fort Worth.

I went looking for small companies to support and ended up supporting 2 out of Idaho. Lazrus made my wedges and one hybrids, Byrdie Golf Designs is making my lefty irons now, should get them in May.

 

My old irons are Nike and they are a mile from my office, so pretty local. 🤣

 

But now that Nike is out of hardware, the only other near me is Haywood and I will likely get a set of muscle backs from them early next year.

A few more but unfortunately don't make irons as they're just not cheap to make.

 

Kinectiv Golf - Putters from Austin Texas. 

Leonetti Handcrafted Putters - Putters duh, not sure where in Texas.

Capitol Custom Grips - They will add logos to grips from Dripping Springs, Texas.

Well... I got to hit an Artisan prototype forged cavity back 7 iron during a wedge fitting, and it was amazing.  Waiting to see when they come to market and the cost.  If the price is right, I'm in as fast as they can take my money.

So far for Irons, I have:
Ben Hogan (Fort Worth, kindof)
Piretti (Spring, TX)
Edel (Liberty Hill, TX)
and not really but soon:
Artisan (The Oven in Fort Worth)

To be honest, I'm wholly unimpressed with Piretti's and Edel's iron offerings. Edel only offers single length irons that they say should be paired with a specific single length shaft, which doesn't fly by me. Piretti is even worse, with their traditional lengths from 6-P, and 3-5 being 6 iron length. they also restrict you to KBS shafts, and have a whopping 2 grip options.

 

Ben Hogan seems to be the best of the lot, and I agree with most of their design principles. I can't get over the fact that there's no set matching gap wedge, though, and that to me is a must.

Artisan is... well, my name isn't Bernhard Langer, so they'll be off the table for a while yet.

 

does anybody know of any other iron makers in Texas? Poor Adams kicked the bucket, so no go there, either.

Grindworks may have a location in Texas but they are a Japanese owned and operated company. And have been for some time.

their putters are 800 bucks. That's an awfully childish thing to say in the face of that fact. I assume the irons will be similarly priced. Must I remind you that their clubs are literally double the cost of everything else on the market? I'd love to support them, but I have to draw the line somewhere. Your comment is unwelcome here.

Heck, that doesn't even count the $200 appointment fee OR sales tax. We're looking in the realm of more than $5000 for a set of irons that we don't even have pictures or information on, much less a release date.
