Summer of 1991, right after I graduated from college, I was home and went out on a weeknight (think it was a Thursday) with a few friends in Worcester (around 35 miles west of Boston).  We hit a few bars and ended at Ralph's Diner, which was a bar downstairs with a small room upstairs with live music.  We were waiting in line outside when a group of guys walks up to the doorman and say "hey, let us in, we're Alice in Chains".  They were opening for Van Halen at the Centrum (now the DCU Center) a few blocks away, and came over to Ralph's to play a short set.  It was a week or two after "Man in the Box" debuted on MTV. They played like 3 songs and blew the doors off that small venue.  One of my best memories from the 90's.  Pretty sure we ended up at Denny's in Lincoln Plaza that night eating a late-night breakfast.  😃

That must have been great to see them in that bar. I only saw AIC once. 1993 Lollapalooza Tour. Their set was only 5 or 6 songs. They played this area (Pittsburgh) a few times in that time frame. Usually as openers or part of a festival type show. Vowed to never go see AIC once they came back with the new vocalist. Not that they are bad by any means. Still excellent music. It's just not AIC without Layne IMO. I get why Jerry Cantrell went back to touring under the AIC name. It's about money and it was his band LOL! Loved the Mad Season project Layne was part of. RIP Layne.

Nothin better than seeing a big time band in a small venue. Especially if it’s prior to them blowing up. One that comes to mind for me is Green Day. Saw em many times at 924 Gilman in Berkeley b4 they signed w/a major label.

I took my 13  & 11 year old girls to Green Day at MSG, 15 years ago. It was a surprise. They loved it and so did I. A great 3 hours.
