Ping i525???

Recommended Posts

I am intrigued by these, I wish I didn't have a set of 223's on order but PING being PING was so tight lipped about a new release with an actual in hand date..

Now you have these, Glide 4.0's and PLD's being released.

I think these would blend nicely with my G425 19* and G425 22* and then 5-PW in retro lofts with i210 lengths.

A D2 set and a D0 set, other specs the same, get built on the same floor and timeline in Phoenix. Everything is "Custom". Do you mean you just buy off the rack?

Yeah, because project x io is stock offering, I can buy off the rack.

custom ordering is anywhere from 6 weeks to 4 months as I have heard.

Not sure where you are getting those numbers, but I am pretty sure they aren't available to buy off the rack until late March (maybe that's why you mentioned 6 weeks??). Pre-orders can go in now, and would assume ship around similar timeframe as when the stock sets arrive for retailers.

I placed my order with project x 6.5 (upcharge of $40ish/shaft) and it sounds like mine should ship around 3/24.

Also, out of curiosity, where is everyone preordering from?

I ordered mine through my local golf store.

For those who have hit the i525, how would you say it compares in terms of forgiveness against the i500, P790, 0311 P?

Im firmly working the players distance category, but the i500 is the iron I’m least familiar with in the category, so I’m not sure what to expect here.

I don't have experience with the 0311P, but for me, have found the P790 to be more forgiving than the i500 and i525 when comparing both fat and thin shot misses.  I'm going to revisit the i525 with another shaft setup because it setup really well.

So I hit the fitting cart head today. Black dot paired with DG120. Club weighed C8/C9. I used a Snell black and the new Callaway chrome soft x.

I did not have a full warmup but first few shots were heavy. Once I got warmed up this club is LONG!  They frame the ball nicely. Lower launch (for me) around 19-20* and spin was 4000-4500 and descent angle was 44*.

The feel is better, the sound is better, it feels like it explodes off of the face. It does feel a little clicky at times.

These compare very closely to the Mizzy Pro 223.

Feel goes to Mizuno, distance goes to Mizuno, dispersion goes to Mizuno.

I plan to go back on Sunday and do a full test with the i525 and bring some lead tape with me.

MP 223 longer than the i525 at 1.5 degrees weaker?! Yikes. Not what I wanted to hear.

Hit the 7i w/ PX IO 6.0.

Looks: Gorgeous. Better than any iron out or upcoming. I don't know what Ping does with the offset in this model, but it is different, and much more pleasing, than their other offerings. It sits so well behind the ball. The extra scoring lines inspire confidence. The top line is on the thicker side, but not G series thick.

Distance: i525 7i carried 15 yds longer than the 223 and 225 with a nice mid-high flight.

Feel: It feels better than the i500 for sure, but don't expect anything close to soft, forged feel. It is explosive and feedback is excellent. I need to test more, with different shafts, to see if it's for me. I've been toying with the idea of graphite, and I'm sure it would do well to improve the feel.

Mainly,I want the i210 replacement to set up at address like the i525.

So I love everything about the stock set up, except that I need to be + .50 in length. I was told by TGW that custom orders will be an additional 6 weeks. Do I go with the stock offering and add .50 extensions when I change the grips?

38.25" is stock length on 5i

Provided it's not exotic specs / shaft. Pre-orders for these, which are custom orders, would ship around the same time as the stock sets for Retailers at the end of March.

I play a 37.5” 7i

So you're off a 1/4 inch? Play them stock. I understand 1/4 inch in gapping, but overall? Probably imperceivable.

They go up in increments of 5/8" at the top, so that's why I think you'll be fine.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding. The irons I play now are the exact same standard lofts as the i525. I added half an inch to my current irons over the stock length, so I would need to do the same thing for the i525, otherwise they will be a half inch shorter from 5 through P.

Also the i210 is no longer on the site.

I know what you were intending to imply with this (that the i525 replaced the i210) but in case anyone actually needed the i210 page to reference specs it's here: https://ping.com/en-us/clubs/irons/i210

I would order them how you want them. I have a hard time believing a length adjustment would be an additional 6 weeks. Also, 1/2 inch changes swing weight, so I would order length, lie, swing weight, etc., directly from Ping but that’s just me.

Would a .25 inch or .50 inch extender change the swing weight? Also, how much does going from a standard grip to midsize affect swing weight?

Just what I said. I guess I could be more specific in saying it was removed from the menu of their current lineup, as attached.

Yes to both, but you can still specify the swingweight you're after. As long as it's doable, they'll do it.

Ah, yes. Sorry for the confusion. You'll clearly have to decide how important that 13mm is. 🙂
