Anything will be an improvement. The i500 feel terrible. And I'm a Ping nut.

Will that improvement be enough to sway? YMMV.

I know that many here don't put much stock in the Maltby Playability Factor ratings, but I do think they are a decent starting point for making comparisons.  I'll wait on the 525's until I see the MPF ratings, which will have to be a LOT higher for me to be interested.  I bought the 500's, and found the MPF ratings to be spot on, which was VERY disappointing and VERY expensive.

The MPF confuses me. Some ratings seem spot on while others are completely head scratching. Like how the Cobra Forged Tec have much lower ratings than it’s competitors but they are just as forgiving if not more. The i500 is a good example, too. I would never consider the i500 in the “Players Classic” category.

Ping doesn't emphasize low CG nor high C dimensions, so they won't score high on MPF. Probably even lower than the i500 since the blade length is less and likely C dimension with it.

Ok, but nothing else Ping has made even comes close to the i500 MPF rating. It’s FAR below any other Ping iron as far back as the MPF ratings go. And having used Ping irons for more than 40 years, even before the Eye2 came out, I have to say I agree with Ralphie on this. I hope the 525s are a serious upgrade.

Don’t think they did anything magical to improve performance on the i500 other than put a small piece of rubber glued inside the hollow head to improve sound. I’m a ping fan but feel like they want to sell their more expensive irons before they get swamped with their best selling i230 line.

Bu checking the spec I notice with project io shaft, the swing weight comes out at D0, even for a average swing speed, that’s too light, let alone for a players club…any thoughts?

Custom order them to the sw you need. It's Ping after all.

Try to avoid custom at all cost at this point.

lead tape helps too

just don’t understand why it comes as D0 while most of MFG has it set at D2

Ping's lines for higher hdcp's have always been in that range.

A D2 set and a D0 set, other specs the same, get built on the same floor and timeline in Phoenix. Everything is "Custom". Do you mean you just buy off the rack?

Curious where the sole width fits in the PING line? Between the i59 and i210, same as i210 or more between i210 and G-series?

It is more like the G-series.  I didn't even realize it was more of a game improvement iron until I looked at the sole.

All Ping

D0 is ridiculous but how long would the wait be to get them at D2 or D3?

If you are ordering them at a specified swingweight, they would take the exact same amount of time (given other specs are the same). Swingweight is part of the workflow in production. The only faster option would be buying a stock set off the rack, which would have the default swingweight based on the specs the retailer ordered them with.

I took my i200 in to compare it to the i525. Looks wise I like the i525 better. Size wise they are about the same. I like the feel of my i200 better, the i525 felt much firmer. I also tried a Cobra forged tec (not the new one)  and that and the i525 were very similar in feel and performance. Both were a little longer than my i200 and both felt harder. I seem to be more consistent with my i200 than the other 2 but that just might be because I'm used to mine.

Over all I thought it was a good iron but not good enough to make me switch.

Good info!

I’m ready for the 225 vs i525 reviews to start.

Ping have heavier screws and tip weights to adjust for SW.
