This was my problem back when the i500 came out.  I don't want to hit my 7i 20yds longer than I do now.  I ended up going with the i210s.  Still in the bag.  I too love the look of the i5XX series, the smaller offset, the thinner top line, etc.  Just don't need the P790 style distance.  Why can't we have a good look (low/no offset and thin top line), consistent/normal distances, and have it not be $2k+ for a set?  They can/should do better with the next i-series, imo.  Plenty of options for folks that want offset and more help in the G4xx and G7xx series.

I’ve been debating the same thing, as I want to do a combo set with i525 4-7, then i59 8-PW. I don’t want there to be a huge gap between the 7 and 8.

And then if I do retro spec on the i525 irons to gap the yardage, how do I prevent spinny moon balls?

So that's an option, but I don't think it fixes the issue of the hot face and the inconsistency.  I found this to be the case with the i500, and with the P790s.  My normal 7i is 160-165, I'd hit one solid with the i500 that went 185 and then toe one a bit that went 155.  Conversely, my i210 I'll hit a good one 165 and toe one 158 or something.  The variance is just way smaller.  I don't think the retro specs are gonna fix that.

there is alot more to a club specs then the loft. I would just hit balls, check decent angles, spin, carry etc

It may be you need to play a 5,6 and 7 in the I525 then a 7,8,9 and PW in the i59 to make it work properly!

The only way you will stop a flyer is by playing irons that dont cause them haha!

You could just buy an i59 set in 5-PW one degree stronger. Not taking much off the bounce, a little less spin, more yardage.

I am a 9hc, it's what I did. The i59 5i looked intimidating at first, then the second time at the range they kind of clicked. Not as scary. Just getting into them. It's also good to have a backup, more forgiving set if the 223 is a more forgiving set - it is.

I am currently hitting T100s.  I tried the i525 tonight and the i59.  I liked the i525, especially a lot better than i500.  The i59 was awesome.  Not as long as the i525, but great feel and consistency.  I am not long, but I like the smaller heads and don’t mind getting punished for poor swings.  I think it ultimately improves my game.

Hit these yesterday, They feel TERRIBLE!

So clicky, thick sole so turf interaction almost feels heavy and doesn't glide as well as they should. Feel like I was hitting a left dash even on pitch shots but was actually hitting a Z Star.

Current gamers are P790 FYI, Have hit the T200 also and they felt the best out of the 3 but went for P790 due to a bit larger head and more forgiveness.

Interesting, I liked the feel.  I guess that's why they have so many options out there, not everyone is going to like the same thing.

Anyone hit these vs the i59? I know the latter is a direct iblade replacement so probably meant for the excellent, single handicap ball strikers but visually I was surprised how similar they looked to the i525. Also, if we find the lofts are too strong, believe you can order them weaker for the i525 (and vice versa for the i59)?

Hit the i525 today.  Fitter dropped in a KBS shafts, similar, not my gamer.  Surprised the project 120S felt as good as it did actually.

Hit the 525 slightly further...have i59 power spec.  So the vice versa...dispersion was identical but the i525 was a little bit more "roll" on trackman.  Outdoor fitting.

They did feel much improved...little thicker on the bottom but it's shaved off, look pretty close to i500 but a little more action on the back with the logo and stuff. Hosel to toe, about the same as i500, but noticeably shorter than i59.

Spin dropped about 800 rpm for me between i59 and i525, but some could be attributed to shaft.  Wish I could have tried some exotics but now I'm confident to wait a while.   Just needed to see the numbers to quash the temptation.  If I had a choice at the time I bought the i59 it might have been tougher of a choice.   Or a combo, I think they'd look solid in the same bag...

Nuked the 4iron in the recoil i59..tempted to swap out the shaft for testing... 😏

I hit the i525 7 iron with at Watts with stock TT. On indoor monitor hit the 7 iron consistently 5 yards further than my G425 7 iron power spec FWIW YMMV.

The i525's were standard loft and the G425's were power spec?  If so, that's wild.  Never ever would have expected that.  The standard G425 7 iron is 1/2 degree stronger than the standard i525 (30 vs. 30.5).  The G425 power spec is a full 2 degrees stronger than the standard i525 (28.5 vs 30.5).

As I reread let me make a clarification, it was 5 yards longer than I hit the G425 outside. I did not bring it with me when I hit the i525.

Pulled the trigger today on i525 5-GW with stiff AWT 2.0 shaft.  Hit the Project X IO 6.0 pretty well but AWT felt better. Hit both X-stiff and Stiff - both felt good.

About 5-8 longer than my JPX 900 forged irons and higher launch.

Played Ping my entire life until the JPX irons - feels good to be back!  I525 feel just fine - But the Mizzy’s still feel better.

also getting the Glide 4.0 54 and 58. May get a 58 eye 2 as well to test.

hopefully it all works out!  Still snowing here.

They were a little lower than my JPX but not too bad.  Better than I thought.  7 iron diff was about 700 lower.  This was inside as well so curious to see how it is outside. Launch was higher.

I'm trying to decide between i525 and Mizuno 225. The Mizuno 221-223-225 thread is pretty full of complaining about Mizuno production quality and timelines. I've been playing Ping since G15 but really want to give that "Mizuno feel" a try. I'm trying to get the winter rust off right now and will get fit in the next 2-3 weeks. Ping's production & quality might be a deciding factor.

Coworker was looking at Mizuno and the P790's....he liked them both, but went with Taylormade as Mizuno was going to be 2 plus months to fulfill the order.

I saw these the other day and they look really nice. If I didn’t just buy the P790s I would give them a try.

I'm going from the 2021 790's to the 525's. The Pings had better overall dispersion, especially front to back. Feel wise they were pretty even, no one will confuse either for a true forged head. The 525's launched higher and had a tad more spin, 300-500 on average compared to the 790's. You can't go wrong with either, I'm partial to Ping since they are local to Az.

I was in the same boat.  Having been playing Mizuno I wanted to keep the same feel.  I hit both and liked Ping a bit better for me … a bit bigger sole - which works for me … then I heard the production times and Ping was the winner.
