Replacing i200

Mcjanzton

Recommended Posts

FORE from Sweden!

Currently playing Ping i200 with KBS Tour shaft S since 2017 and looking to replace with something similar, but perhaps a little more forgiving.

I’m 44, 5’10, athletic and 8 handicap while only playing 5-10 rounds per year so a little help on the thin side is always nice.

Swingspeed driver 100-105 and normally hit a draw. So a decent ball striker.

I’m going to head down to the shop next week and try some clubs. Would like to try something forged this time, looking at ZX7 or ZX5 and JPX921 Forged or Tour mostly. Any other ideas or recommendation? I still want a player’s type of club, no pure GI and massive offset.

If you want something softer and more forgiving than the i200 I think you are right on with ZX5/7 and JPX forged.

Otherwise you are looking at hallow body irons like P770 or Apex Pros

Thanks, confirmation bias is what I need lol!

I’ve tried the hollow bodies from Ping, Cobra and Titleist and I can’t for the life of me strike them well. They look off somehow at address and I can’t find the sweetspot, plus I get a really unstable ball flight.

how about Titleist T100 or T100s?  might get a great deal on last year's model if they still have any.  Also the apex 21s are great irons

I just dumped my i210's for the PXG Gen3 0311P's.  Absolutely love them, and the i210 had been my favorite irons I had owned until the PXG's.  The i210's kicked the 919 JPX Tours out of the bag.  I would highly recommend the PXG, including the 0211 which my son has.  We both couldn't be happier.  He is a beginner around a 15 handicap and I bounce around scratch if that matters.

Couldn't agree more.  I was able to snatch PXG 0211 with my fav shaft and cancelled the delayed i210.

Thanks, I feel they’re too similar to my i200 and I’m looking for something a little softer though.

i210 are much softer than the i200 and just better overall. Just go to a fitter and try them all, see what you like and perform the best.

I’m gaming i200’s and just bought a set of PXG 0311P Gen 2 irons. They are hollow body but profile wise are nearly the same size. Looking forward to trying Them out soon. They just came today.

Thanks Heath. Now I’m thinking I need to hop in my car and drive about an hour and 15 minutes down the Scottsdale and go for a fitting and see how I like those irons. My eye 210s are currently in the bag but they are looking a little bit nervous. I will just send the bill to you since it’s your fault for mentioning it. Lol.😂

Just curious - is there a noticeable difference in offset, and head size between the 0311P and i200?  Was looking at the Gen2s but couldn't tell if the "P" or "T" would be closer in size.

On paper the P’s have a little more offset than the i200’s but my P’s are bent weak so they look about the same to my eye.

as for size. I like to measure the sole (both are 7/8” across), the i200 is 1/8” shorter blade length and both have the same toe height. So very comparable.

Same here, had i210’s and went with  PXG 0311P Gen2 and could not be happier.  Good spin numbers, a little extra forgiveness and fantastic feel.  I think they are sold out of the Gen2 but I would not hesitate to try out the Gen3 (or Gen4) P irons.

The 0311 Gen 2 T, P and XF are still available on the site. $89/ea plus shipping. The SGI has been sold out for a few months now.

I ordered my P’s on 7/2 and got them yesterday shipped to OH. Not a bad turnaround with normal delays in the golf industry.  And that was with adjusted lofts and lies too.

I obviously was looking at the wrong thing, I thought I saw they were sold out but sure enough they still have them.  I hit them when they first came out and just could not justify the cost, but when they dropped to $99 when I got mine a couple months ago I was thrilled and jumped on them.  They even gave me a website credit for the difference when the price dropped to $89 which was about 20 days after I got mine.

I play i200 in the fall-winter, and put together a Srixon combo set to play this spring-summer. @Mcjanzton you might enjoy something similar in the ZX5/7.

ZU85 4U (23°)

Z585 6i-7i (27-31°)

Z785 8i-AW (36-41-46-51°)

I can say the Srixon’s are definitely softer feeling, yet powerful, with more ball flight control. For me i200 are a bit more forgiving, higher and consistently straighter ball flight. Overall distance is very similar, in line with stated loft.

Callaway Apex would be a good one to test, more forgiving on thin strikes.

I have had I200s since 2018. Only changes I have made with replacing the 5 and 6 iron with G410 in the same length and loft as I200 power spec. Chose the stock AWT so that these irons were slightly lighter than the Modus 105s. Has worked out in getting better gaping and height on those irons.

I have hit the 210s and can honestly say that if somebody was blindly handing me irons there is not way that I could perceive a difference between the 200s and 210s.

I would also throw the IE1s in that boat. That was the first of the I series that uses the same style of steel in casting.

If you want to flip into another category or OEM, totally understand that. If I get the opportunity to hit srixons or mizunos I would jump all over it. Different sole grinds, and manufacturing processes could yield something that I like more.

My opinions about the Pings though, would be to stick to what you got out of the "I" series. Very minimal differences from one iteration to another.

sh!*t guys,

I am gaming Z785's with a 12.5 index. Due to taking lessons and a significant swing change that I am growing impatient with, I decided to order the OG 0211's yesterday. I was going back and forth on gen 2 0311p's or 0211's, and after reading some of this thread I wish I had gone the 0311p route. My plan is to put the more forgiving irons into play till I am striking the ball better again/back in the single digits on the hcp. Does anyone know if PXG will let you cancel less than 24 hours from order?

*OG 0211's are still available for mil veterans.

Unless they are already being built (which I would be surprised as Gen4 gets the high priority) you should be able to call them and cancel or change the order.  I will also tell you I had the OG 0211 and they did not spin enough for me.  I launched some knuckle balls from time to time and my distance control was not great with them.  The 0311 P's are more forgiving than my i210's were (and I really liked the Ping's) so I think you would be fine.

Hi ; I was same as you  in hdcp.My progression in last 3 years : i200 , Honma 737 p, 0311p with shimadas, t200 with 950gh  919hmp with Nippon 105, now zx5's with neos . which have the best feel and performance of all.0311's were nice but flawed in design as they are parallel tip and use inserts to create taper.Poor idea !

You can cancel.  However, the OG 0211 is a great iron.  I have a buddy that has them and he is the reason I bought the GEn3 Ps.  I bought my son the 0211 DC.  All three are very comparable IMHO in the forgiveness category.  The new 0211 DC have very strong lofts though.  I wouldn't worry about what your handicap is.  I am scratch and would game 0211s in a heart beat.

ok thanks. My game isnt in a good place just yet so forgiveness helps. I was just thinking it’s more of a possibility that the 0311P’s stay in the bag when the game returns to normal.
As far as the new DC’s I have no desire to play the lofts of those. I would rather play the ST’s than the DC’s.

Thanks for the vote of confidence on the 0211’s. I’m going to take the day to see if I would rather switch my order or not.

Don't buy either of those if your willing to go hollow body.  You can get PXG gen 3 for the same price.  The distance consistency is so much better with pxg over TM and apex.  The TM's are super hot out of the middle, but a shot in the dark with mishits(i'm not talking big misses, but the slight high toe will sail on u).   Plus the PXGs feel so much better.
