Korn Ferry Tour Q school

As it should be, because otherwise KF Tour  FInal Stage would be filled with PGA Tour veterans. Allowing PGA Tour veterans to bypass KF Tour pre-qualifying and Stage 1 is giving them plenty of status and, or, respect. Remember, the Korn Ferry Tour's primary function is to give young up and coming players the opportunity to refine their games well enough to compete well when/if they are able to earn a card for the PGA Tour.

I understand that, but like your other post there is no “status” for these guys if they don’t get past 2nd stage. Only way is if they’re a past champ.

These "starts" are PGA Tour starts right?

They are Korn Ferry starts so finishing in the top-40 this week is critical.  Here's a link to the priority ranking list for the 2020-21 KF Tour:

Edited.

Okay. I just watched the video. These starts are KFT starts, not PGA Tour starts.

I think KFT Playoff determines PGA Tour card. And this is KTF Q School, which is different from KTF Playoff. This is confusing.

Regular season KFT top 25 get cards

KFT playoff top 25 get cards

I've always found the KFT playoff with the top 25 getting cards slightly strange.

It seems like 3 relatively average results can get you a card over someone who may finished 30th in the KFT season and just had 3 poor final events.

Not complaining because Matthias Schwab got his card 😂

Yep I’m with you on that. This year it took less points than in 2019.

I do like the fact that the 126-200 guys from the PGA have to come down to play to regain their cards

Yes, Q school is for status on next year's KF tour (2022). The playoff to get PGA Tour cards for 2022 happened back in September.

Seemed like in years past the guys who played well on kft didn’t always play great in finals. Seemed like this year most off those top guys played great in finals hence the lower points

Carnage today on both courses. A decent amount of rain off and on. Winds were pretty consistent at about 15-20 mph. Magnolia has greens that are a bit gnarly and a bit more narrow off the tee

Raining all day tomorrow with high winds. Not even sure a ball will be hit but if we play all of it the scores are going to be just as high if not higher for tomorrow.

If we play most of tomorrow I think the top 40 number will be right around even par

I was curious what happened. I know one guy playing, he did fine yesterday but put up a big number today

Most of the tee balls were into off the left/right so anything spinning in either direction off these tees is pretty much dead.

There’s loads of OB that comes into play as well as 2 par 5s on each course that are playing as long par 4s. You couldn’t ask for a better test of these guys to determine the top 40 for stars.

Thanks for the updates. I was wondering if it was the course or the weather. Makes sense. I'm sure this is nerve wracking for players and caddies. Good luck!

Third round of KFT Q-School will be played on Sunday and the 4th round will be played Monday. 4th round was originally going to be streamed on the NBCSN app and golfchanel.com on Sunday. Wonder if they will show it live on Monday instead?

I was under impression today was going to be televised on the golf channel, but I'm checking the guide and don't see it listed. So it's streamed on golf channel.com?

I found it on the website. I'm watching on my phone, now if I can just figure out how to stream to the television. Maybe I should ask my kids. 😂

Some notable names who will finish outside the top 40:

Akshay Bhatia

Dan Summerhays

Erik Compton

Brandon Stone

Andy Ogletree (80 in round 2)

Steve Marino

Looks like 2 under will be the line.

EDIT: check that, a couple late moves the wrong way and it looks like all the guys at 1 under are going to make it.

Excuse my ignorance but what do most of the guys that miss out do now?   Mini tour?  Latin America Tour?  What does a guy like Guthrie do?  Hard to see him trying to go play on the Latin America tour at this point of his career.

Big congrats to Slicefixer student Zack Fischer for winning the Korn Ferry Q-School Finals!  8 years after he won the inaugural event in 2013.  Clutch putt on 18 for the one shot win.

Try to Monday qualify, I think I heard on the broadcast they only have to pay $100 to enter those and can skip the pre-qualifiers. If you Monday into an event and finish top 25, that gets you in the next week. Do that and maybe you'll earn enough points to move up in the priority list and get more starts.

Guthrie does have 2 KF tour wins from a while ago, not sure if those buy him any additional status or not.

You are pretty spot on with this. I will add the guys who are way down in the 80s 90s and hundreds will do most Mondays but some guys will also do Latin and Canadian tour if they find themselves in a scenario where they have status on those stores from previous years instead of Monday for every event.

Winning on the KF only get you an exemption into the next year so Guthrie will be monday qualifying to get starts
