Yeah but 75/80TX wood shafts and a 90TX on that p790 with lead tape added??  Plus TS 3w at 13* with that shaft?? This kid must be strong like his dad was.  I would destroy my back hitting this bag.  Course I am old so...

- Something that continues to go long off the tee in the fairway
- Something that is a fairway finder when needed and long
- Something that high, consistent and helps with par 5’s
-  Something to help with long par3’s and short par 4’s

-  Something metal, lots of them and go the gaps I need
- Something metal, 2x of them and helps me 120y and in
- Putters - limited rotation because I cannot afford misses

Golf is what you make of it.  Play grateful and accepting. We are all lucky to have it.

Rather than expecting lets all try and appreciate instead.
Treat people the way you want to be treated

A beast of a bag for sure. I wonder how he handles the gap between what is basically a strong 2w and a 3i. Hard to imagine feeling comfortable taking something off a fairway wood with that little loft and a super stout shaft, so maybe he is comfortable really ripping that 3i?

Nice set up.

I see some epic head-to-head battles with Charlie Woods in his future.

I think he is old enough that he will be almost on the senior tour by the time Charlie hits the stage. If either of them do. Which is no guarantee.

My comment was somewhat tongue-in-cheek. That said, there is only a 6 year age gap between them, meaning Charlie will be 44 when JDII is eligible for the Senior Tour. Lol.

That 3i is set up to go a quite a bit longer and will help bridge the gap between 4i and that strong 3. Still a large gap with it being a lofted down 13.5*.  I did this a few years ago and play a 3i with a rip 105x graphite shaft and it easily goes 15+ yards over the what it does with the heavier steel 125-130g used in the iron set. I imagine a 90g graphite, likely a touch longer length as well, would gain him even more.

For about 5 years I played driver then a 2 iron/utility at 19 degrees. But if a gap but considering that for many the 3 wood is basically a second tee option only. Not the biggest deal to have a big gap there.

I'm currently tinkering around with that spot in the bag so I know what you mean. I basically have a handful of 3-irons with shafts ranging from 115-130g steel to 90-105g graphite as I want to have something the slots after the normal 3w/5w setup and something that can fill the gap if I just go 4w/3i. I seem to get about 5mph additional ball speed when I go lighter and I can see John Jr. maybe considering that 3i to be a 240-250 club? Still feels like such a huge gap there either side of it, but maybe this is also just a setup for the PNC.

It is a big gap and I’d bet it’s a set up for this tournament. Id guess he has a 25-30 yard gap between his 4i and that 3i. Then probably 45-50 between the 3i and that strong 3w.  Maybe he plays a higher lofted 3w or 4w head normally and brings that gap closer to 25-30.

i messed around with the top end of my bag for a couple years before I found the right set up. I go driver, 2h at 16*, 20* utility iron with 105x graphite, then 4i with heavier steel.

My 4i is 230-235 club.

3i is mostly a tee club that I can hit anywhere from 245-275 depending on what shot I want to play.

2h- I can hit from tee or ground and can play a cut at 250 or I can hit it 300 off the tee if I let it fly and release a draw.

Congratulations to both the Daly's, the way I saw it John II Carried ole dad Sat, but Big John showed up to play today and played very well. I'm super happy for them as I've been a John Daly fan since Crooked Stick 1991 here in Indiana. I had a chance / tickets to go, but elected to work and gave my tickets away, big fan and kicking myself ever since. Thank you guys for putting on a show today. Merry Christmas!🎅

Yep, and when you are WRX long, you're hitting wedges into par 4 greens and mid irons into long par 5's, so such clubs just weigh the bag down anyway.

The one fall event he played in he finished 49th out of 52 golfers with a stroke average of 76.3 for three rounds.

Didn't make the road team for the west coast event they played at Pebble in September.

Got a ways to go to be talking PGA Tour.

He didn’t start for Arkansas as a freshman. When did his dad do that for Arkansas?

They only had a couple of tournaments this fall and still have the spring season for '21-22. He played in one of those tournaments. The word 'start' is probably not the right term when talking about college golf. Most of the time they have to qualify for each tournament they go to... he's got some maturing to do but I can see him being a force out there.

He did shoot a 68 during that event. The other two rounds were not so great. That event was also at the Blessings if I recall which is a stout track. Kid has talent and will do well in college golf.

I don’t follow College Golf, but know College Basketball and Football inside out.

I’m guessing Golf isn’t that different in that Freshmen take time to get adjusted to the College level, and it’s a huge jump from High School. Better off giving him some time to adjust to College before making any judgments about his future potential in College or the PGA.

Love the bag though…those are some hard swinging clubs he’s got in there!!
