Music people would be surprised to find on your phone

I was asked that playing a round with a friend recently. He knew I was mostly a rock fan and he thought mostly classic rock. I said I also like 90s alternative but that I also have plenty of 2000s indie music on my phone. So I told him it was either Jason Isbell or Brandi Carlile. He hadn’t heard of either. I was deleting some stuff from the phone the other day found the real answer Trampled by Turtles. They are a bluegrass band but if you’ve ever seen them live there not like any bluegrass band I ever heard before them. They can jam as good as any rock band.

I’m mostly a rap, hard core rock guy, but I think Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors is one of the best albums of all time.  It sits in my downloads along side Tech9, 2Pac, Run theJewels,  Deftones, Mastadon, Slipknot, etc.

@GHIN n Juice  @DArnie  I really don't think those are controversial picks at all. The ABBA Gold record and Rumours are probably in the top 5 of my record collection. They've sold tens of millions of copies for good reason. But I get the point, maybe you're a bit younger and your peers would be surprised to hear it on your playlist if they were on a road trip with you. 

 

For me, I'm a 35 year old man with no kids and in 2021 I found myself listening to the Moana soundtrack pretty often. Honestly I think it's better than Hamilton as far as Lin Manuel Miranda's music goes.

I was a hard rocker in my teens. Blue Oyster Cult, Rainbow, AC/DC. I thought disco sucked. I was at Disco Demolition night in Chicago on July 12th, 1979. What a blast.

 

I currently have over 2000 songs on my phone. My tastes have certainly expanded over the years. Plenty of disco, funk, R&B, pop, jazz fusion, country, bluegrass, and of course rock (hard, soft, yacht, 80's). As a musician and (lousy) song writer, I'm addicted to pop songs with great hooks. 'Always trying to figure out how the great song writers structure their songs. I have numerous Taylor Swift, ABBA, Bangles,  and Go-Go's tunes in the collection. Heck, I was a fan of the Bangles before they hit it big. Always loved women in rock, including Pat Benatar, Debbie Harry, Annie Lennox, Chrissie Hynde, Linda Ronstadt, Patty Smyth, and Sheryl Crow

 

I'd say the most surprising songs would be the tunes from Saturday Night Fever. For an old rocker, the Bee Gees were toxic at the time. Lol.

Lol, I’m 43 and was blessed to grow up during the 1990s when there was new music, genres, and sounds every few months it seemed like.  It was arguably the best 10 years of music in history ( I know, I know, the 60s).
 

My point was that an average person would probably ask WTF when seeing Rumors along side the rest of my downloads.
