Rangefinder with front/middle/back GPS on screen?

Recommended Posts

I think Shotscope just released a range finder that also has GPS tracker on the back of it. Their originally range finder was pretty good for the price point.

Bushnell also use to have a hybrid rangefinder / gps, but not sure if they make it anymore - maybe could find a decent on Ebay

Garmin Approach Z82 - Laser and GPS.  Rather amazing images though the viewfinder.  Seriously accurate, but not inexpensive.  I have a Fenix 6x pro too, which during most rounds.

Tried it and hated it because the viewfinder is a video signal and not optical/video signal hybrid, as it should be. There is a slight delay in hand movement and image on screen. Also, yardages in the GPS were terribly off far too often.

As it should be??? LOL  Yes, a fractional delay, but it's NOT noticeable and there's NO effect during play.  I don't make my determinations based on what's on the internet.  I've had Z82 since it was introduced, and the operating system has been fully upgraded once that I am aware of.  I also had/have Bushnell's latest, which doesn't compare.  Course, I am not getting paid to promote either.

Approach Z82 yardages are NOT off either.  I regularly check it for accuracy, as I am rather anal about exact yardages, cause I can hit my yardages, as opposed to hoping to be close.  What's different is it's costly compared to others.

But what ever floats your rubber raft.  🙂

I had it. I returned it. The delay was enough for me to not use it. The yardages were off considerably from laser. Is laser a flag and it would be middle back and back of green arc would say same distance.

they should have had left 1/4 half be a screen and the rest optical.

You either had a bad unit or the course you are playing had wrong data on it. Two of my friends play with it and the Z82 provides the same distances as my Bushnell XE, so in all honesty, I'm not sure what you are talking about.

If the Z82 would've been out when I bought the XE, I would've bought that instead. The price point is too high thou in my opinion...kinda a novelty premium. If they could go to $499, im pretty sure they'd start to eat up serious market share

Interesting, thanks for the link. I haven't used a Shotscope before to know the quality of the laser rangefinder on it's own, any feedback there? I think the most appealing part of the Voice Caddie SL2 is the ability to combine the GPS to the Rangefinder for the pin assist, which basically filters out anything BUT what would be a pin distance so you don't deal with miss-readings of things like branches in between, objects behind the green, etc. It's ability to lock onto a flag stick made the Z82 feel like absolute garbage. And I say that with all the respect in the world for the Z82, it's a great rangefinder, but that's just how clutch that gps pin assist feels in quickly getting, and trusting, pin distances.

Yes à have PRO L1 Laser and V3 watch.

Pro L1 takes a few seconds before it locks pin, but it provides a lot of information and you can choose between Black and Red text. it also has a lever on the side that starts / closes the slope.

The V3 watch is really good and I really like their statistics.

I will probably buy their new product home soon enough. but will be later this summer then

What are my best options out there for a rangefinder that will also show front/middle/back on the rangefinder screen?

I bought a Garmin Approach Z82 looking for this same thing. GPS and laser for best of both worlds and it’s great. Gives distances to hazards shows a 2D map of the hole. If I didn’t just get Arccos from my fiancé, I’d be keeping mine, just don’t need two devices.

I am selling my Z82 if anyone is interested. It’s in the BST forum.

I just picked up Z82. Only 9 holes with it so far. Enjoyed the gps/laser integration and looking forward to leveraging all the features but it’ll take adjustment.

I’m not a fan of the digital display nor do I like the idea of having to ensure it’s charged before each round. Charging it will take an adjustment to my post and pre-round routines. The laser function is slower than my previous range finders but not so slow it’s going to cause any noticeable delay to pace of play. Last, the image stabilization feels weird. Just odd to not have the reticle move in sync with my hand. I’ll have to get used to not trying to correct my aim as much.

Laser and gps yardages lined up mostly. GPS is not as precise as laser so I expect there to be some inconsistencies. Especially when a pin is near the very front or back of green. At the front of a green the lasered distance to the pin could end up being less than the gps’ front of green distance. Vice versa for a back pin.

These cons are, IMO, the technological trade-offs Garmin made to deliver all the additional features. I can understand if they are deal breakers for some. Especially those who just enjoy the simplicity of a dedicated laser. As for me, I’m willing to adjust.
