Prescription sunglasses?

Recommended Posts

I’m a Maui Jim guy. Have played in their prescription lenses for over 10 years, I love them.

I do have some Maui Jim non prescription, and I’m very happy with them. I just need a correction for distance. The doc recommended non wrap glasses. I have some very similar to the Banyan model. I hope they qualify.

Those look good, but I wear a wide brimmed hat for sun protection, and I’m not sure the Oakley style ear pieces would work.

I ONLY wear wide brimmed hats and the Oakleys are fine. I have both the Flak 2 XL and the Conductor. Two totally different styles and earpieces work perfectly on both. Easy to just try them on at Sunglass Hut or Lenscrafters

I’m going to an optician that stocks Oakley on Monday, and I will give them a try. Thanks

I'm in the same boat - eye doc gave me a specific progressive scrip that would not be as severe for near as my current bifocals. (The ball goes blurry during my back swing)

She did not rec any one brand so it's up to me. I've had single focal Oakley's and they were good, expensive in the end, but good for cycling, not so good for golf because of some distortion around the edges.

https://www.sportrx.com/ has a bunch of options to get an idea.

Been wearing Ray-Ban frames for a few yrs now and totally luv them. I have a strong/tricky Rx with progressives. My most current pair I have was via LensCrafters with their high-index Polaroid lenses (since my Rx is not within Ray-Ban’s available lab range regarding their trademark lenses). I just moved away from grey lenses to brown, and so glad I did. Brown lenses provide much better detail/clarity optics for such outdoor activities as golfing. Do your research regarding best lens options based upon your activities. Check out https://www.framesdirect.com/knowledge-center/lens-color-guide for recommended sunglass lens color guide. Also, check out Mr Grumpy’s recommendation re SportRx options… they have plenty of cool stuff. I just can’t order online due to my Rx parameters. Good luck!

I wore Oakley sunglasses (M Frame, then Original Flak Jacket) for 20 years. But after having my Flaks stolen I looked for another option. I tried a pair of Tifosi and have had several pair of them for 8 years now. I don’t notice any difference in vision or performance. They have several lens options both polarized and regular. They even have golf specific lenses. All this at 1/3 the price of Oakley.

Oakley Flak Jacket XL for shooting and golf.

Maui Jim Byron Bay for everyday wear and occasionally golf.

Both have changed my life for the better.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

My eye doc said to stay away from wraps because of distortion.

I don’t know if the Oakleys are considered wraps, but I’m going to check them out. tomorrow. Seems like a few guys really like them. I like the looks of those Maui Jim’s, too. I have a pair of Maui Jim glasses with regular lenses, and like them.

Depending on your prescription you are probably going to want to stay with a 6 base frame.  Many wraparound styles are 8 or even 10 base.

The Oakley two face and the Jupiter squared are both 6 base frames and what I use,

Thanks. I just need single vision glasses due to an astigmatism in my right eye. I told the doc that I can follow my ball ok, but I can’t see anyone else’s. At my annual eye exam, my right eye had changed quite a bit. Really looking forward to getting this corrected.

Your doc said grey, non-polarized.  I play in brown, polarized.  Some say it's harder to read putts on the green with polarized glasses.

When you visit the optician, inquire about the brand of lenses that will be in the frames.  The brand of lenses is not necessarily the same as the frame.  The frame just holds the lenses.  It needs to fit you well so there's no sliding if too loose and no discomfort if too tight.  The brand and type of lenses makes all the difference.

Yep. I had several optometrist recommend against me getting single vision.  So I dodss XS whst they said I’m the first pair and went progressive.  As mentioned they are ok.

But the second pair the single vision are great. They helped me so much more I’m following the ball.

now footnote:

I went for a recent eye exam and found out two things.  My corrected vision has dropped from 20/20 to 20/25.   And I have cataracts.  Are they bad enough to be removed? I’m seeing an opthomologit  for that discussion later this month

I have definitely noticed a decrease in my distance vision vs 6 months ago.

I’m just beginning with the formation of cataracts, but they are so light that they are no concern. Boy, getting older is fun!

Find an Oakley frame that you like and get the PRIZM, polarized lens - you'll be amazed at how crisp and clear everything appears. They should have prizm lenses to look thru and see what color you like. Take the lens outside and see why going with the prizm lens is worth it. I use the everyday lens but, they make sport specific ones, including golf. They cost more but well worth it in my opinion.

Polarized can be a blessing or curse depending on thd individual and the sunlight conditions they play in. They aren’t an ideal fit for everyone/condition.

That’s what great about the optician and optometrist at Sport RX.  They will do a thorough analysis of your vision and conditions you most play in.

How do your sunglasses do in cloudy conditions?
