Taylormade Stealth 2……it’s happening?????? Black and Red

I loved the SIM2. Stealth+ beat it out last year, but there were some good things in that SIM2 head.

Do we know if that red portion around the rear weight is a move back to the forged aluminum ring introduced with SIM2? Is that how they're getting the carbon back on the sole? It was so strange to me that internal construction of SIM2 appeared to be a one and done, as Stealth+ was clearly an extension of the SIM architecture.

I’ll probably buy one too but I just cannot see it beating out the TSR4 for me.  The TSR4 has the extra gear that the others drivers lack.  It’s still fun testing out new gear though😃

Oh for sure.  I think I may actually enjoy that more than actually golfing lol.

The new release from TM from esthetic stand point has been underwhelming. The new line of irons and now new drivers. We knew TM was sold to Korean company, does it have anything to do with it? I understand there are not much things you can with iron design, but with driver TM has been industry leading in terms of innovation for years. I felt like TM has fire bunch of engineers and designers and bunch of newbies can’t come up with great ideas

Thinking more on this. When SIM2 was released TM told us the weight track had been removed to get more weight into other parts of the head, but that it would come back. They knew carbon face was coming and would need that weight savings from the face to put a weight track into a SIM2 style construction?

Looking back with hindsight, it's interesting to see the tick-tock cadence with the last four releases to get to this point: OG SIM to Stealth and SIM2 to Stealth 2. (assuming these assumptions about Stealth 2 are correct, of course).

If anything, that extra carbon on the bottom appears to have given them the ability to add more weight to the track.  Assuming that the weight is going to be a bit heavier just due to how much bigger it is.

They had a full carbon sole with SIM2 and couldn't put in a weight track because they wanted a lot of weight in the rear. What's changed here to allow it? That's what my brain is noodling on. Did the carbon face save that much weight? Maybe the rear weight on Stealth 2 isn't as massive as the ones on SIM2? I'm looking forward to hearing the story.

Oh yeah I get what you're saying.  I don't recall how much weight savings there was with the face.  I want to say it was significant wasn't it?  I don't know the actual weight of it.  But, a quick search shows they're claiming a 44% savings in weight with the carbon face.

  • The new 60X Carbon Twist Face is 44% lighter than an equivalent titanium head, and is 11% larger than SIM2 and SIM2 Max drivers and nearly 20% larger than the 2020 SIM Driver.

That definitely could have been the difference maker in allowing the track on a Sim2 type design.

I believe the front portion is all the same, weight-wise.

The added carbon allowed them to put a heavier backweight. Higher moi but marginal...just like sim to sim2.

It'll be a good driver for those who don't customize. If you're like me and you play a bit shorter length and added backweight in stealth+ to get swingweight up then these changes should be very marginal.

Agreed with this. Plus I love the look of a sub 460 cc driver which I guess Taylormade isn’t interested in doing anymore

Agreed!  Something about the slightly smaller heads have just always worked a little better for me.  I guess TM did not see the ROI and did away with them.

An increasing percentage of the buying public has grown up playing drivers at or near the volume limit. Therefore, the always relatively small niche market for 430-ish drivers and mini-driver type clubs is getting increasingly smaller by percentage with each passing cycle.
