Best blades in the market(s) today?

Hi everyone,

In the market for a new set of blades and I figured I’d gauge the thoughts from you all. To start - I am not a fan of any major OEM’s current blade model. Mizuno, Taylormade, Titleist…you name it. I’m obviously being picky here, but who isn’t looking for the perfect shape?

I’ve started looking at JDM options including Seven, Fujimoto, Kyeoi, Epon, etc. I’ve had a set of Miura 001’s, but I couldn’t stand the sole. The Seven MB’s look perfect but I think we all know about the price tag.

Curious to your opinions on the matter. Thanks for your help in advance!

Wilson Staff and Srixon are pretty well liked. I haven’t hit them but that’s where I would start (and P7TW).

Interesting observation. What didn’t work for you with the sole? Not a fan of the leading edge grind?

i've owned the most talked about irons in general from miura, ping, kyoei, etc.  I have 5 sets of miura, 4 of ping, and only the KK in kyoei's. 3 sets of pxg's as well for reference in the discussion. all 'players' irons.

I will say the best of the bunch for feel is the kyoei KK raws.  the grind is superb with turf interaction and the shot off the face so solid/soft miura isn't comparable.  The grind is comparable to srixon which is great.  Mine have 120 PX 120lz with regular sized velvets.

I would say the 99% as good as second can be are the pxg 211 ST irons.  They are very very very underrated.  So much so that I actually play them on all trips that I send my clubs to and "away' trips to travel locally for some reason. I suspect I should just change to them and drop the kyoei's.  They are silly pricey not to buy a set from 4-pw for 89bucks/stick.  great set.  I am not sure they are still available as they are an older set.  mine have the standard elevate 95's in them as I bought them as a set I sent to florida for a 30a trip and did not want to spend anything extra for them.  That shaft is great. Launches in my window and feels great to me.   I prob should buy a second set just to store so when they stop making them.  Feel is very close to the kyoei but honestly, nothing comes close to the KK's but i'd never set down the 0211ST for the price for sure.

To each his own, but if price was a concern, the 0211st is a crazy steal and the kk's are icing on the cake.

If the "perfect shape" is your main criteria then you'll have to describe exactly what that means to you, otherwise you'll likely just get a list of blades you're already aware of.

A Member on here had the MOI for the titleist MB 620s , which was surprising high for a bladed iron , over all IMOP and I’m bias that the 620s top the blade category.   Mizuno, you cannot beat their metallurgy IMOP.   Size of head, playability , 620 for this user .   Worth mention the Wilson Staff blade is a thing of beauty and def over looked

Great point. Least amount of offset possible, square toe, smaller the better.

definitely softer feeling blades out there but I think Blueprints are the sleeper pick for best blade. Definitely most underrated cuz they don't have the sexiness that a Japanese irons offers or even a Titleist Blade

If I had to get some new blades I'd arrange a demo session with the following:

Titleist 620 MB - have tried them before and loved the feel and consistency. Not the softest blades known to man but perform well.

TM P7-TW - my assumption on these is that they're the VR Pros with a TM badge on them, hence a fantastic set of irons. Heavier on price than the others but suspect I'd like them the most.

Ping Blueprint - haven't hit them but love the look of them, plus like the troll aspect of my first proper set of Pings (not hand me downs) being a set of blades.

I'd also probably try some ZX Forged and the latest Vega have to offer just for reference purposes.

Sans the retro script, I'd say the Mizuno pro 221 are the best current blade. Although only marginally better shape wise than the MP20.

Only thing that could top it for me woud be a ultra custom set of blades from national custom works, but that's silly amounts of money and waiting.

I’m leery of Chinese third party metallurgy.  I’d go Mizuno and wouldn’t look back.

Currently gaming Callaway Apex MB 21's. Great iron with a ton of forgiveness. Despite them producing great numbers for me, I continue to toy with the idea of putting a set of Miura MB-101's in the bag. Titleist 620MB's are gorgeous as well.
