2023 cobra irons in hand

I might be in a minority here. But others are definitely saying that the new Cobra cb looks like a titleist 620 cb and I couldn’t disagree more. I think the sole is way larger, it reminds me more of a 770 iron than anything else. The cobra mb is beautiful. I think they killed it with that new model. But look at the sole comparison, in my mind I wouldn’t want to combo the two. That transition club say 4-6 cb 7-P mb, you’ll see a huge difference to the eye imo.

Well to be fair thats the point of a combo set. More “help” in the long irons. Sole plays a much lesser role in long irons, as the AOA gets shallower.

Totally agree, I just think they could have made the topline/sole flow a little better if the plan was to sell a bunch of combo sets of these irons. I always look back on say the Titleist 620 cb/mb and they have such a seamless flow. Where as my fiance plays a 770/Mc combo last season and when she switched to the mc (770 4-7 mc 8-p) at 8 iron I find its overly clear its a completely different iron head. I dont think the cobra cb/mb is as bad as that, but not as seamless as the titleist combo thats forsure.

True, and there are many nuances in a “combo” set. Some want a cb that isnt far off from a blade. Some want more progressive help. Some want good flow aesthetically and some want good flow performance wise. I played the 620cb and imo, it played much closer to blade, not a ton of “help”. We cant have it all for everyone unfortunately, lol.

My first thought to seeing these was Bridgestone irons are back!

Kidding aside, they look amazing.

Yup me too. I love their CB irons. Still my favourite setup of irons was the J33 Combo. PW-8 MB, 7-6 CB, 5-4 Weighted CB.

Going see how these would look in hand with a similar setup. I have a combo of FT and FTX at the moment. Definitely like it. But with the 2020 FT and the new FT I have issues with the GW and PW for some reason. Just get no distance.

T100 is a bit smaller, probably a bit less forgiving. Feel is similar, but I liked the tour slightly better.

Interesting.

I am probably one of the few that did not like the T100, felt hard/clicky to me.

Tempted to give these a try, looking for something close to the T100 but softer and maybe a little more forgiving.
Thanks for the insight.

I would compare the King Tour to the T100S. Same lofts, similar "speed" and "feel" pocket, etc. I would like to note that the length of the new cobra irons appears .25" longer than "standard". For example a 37.25" 7iron compared to 37" in most other manufacturers.

These should definitely be on your list then! I didnt find the T100 clicky, but definitely not the softest feeling iron out there.

Cobra clubs are always longer due to arccos sensor on the end of the grip

So it's an End Of Grip measurement? One way to keep things "standard" is to measure club head to end of shaft, that way the cap end of the grip doesnt have to be factored in between different style grips.

Might depend on who you order through, but I know they’re an option. Should be about a $20 upcharge per club.

Also sole width is only part of that equation. Some wide sole clubs play thinner and vice versa. In looking at the new cb in person it has a beautifully shaped sole that looks to play thinner than the added width. I’m pretty confident the turf interaction flows well from the mb to cb

Just got my shipping notice from Cobra that my King Tours will be here next Thursday.  I honestly wasn't expecting anything until at least 2-3 on "release" day.  I only ordered them yesterday!

No, i think better comparisons are zx7, mizuno pro 223, and ping i230.

This is how I see it too. I’ve placed the T100 side by side with various heads. It is barely larger than the Ping Blueprints and is about the same size as i59. T100 is a beautiful club but I am another who finds the Titleist feel to be so-so.

The King Tours would appear to be more of a compact tending toward midsized head. They look better than the MIM Tours to me. Look really good based on photos. It’s the iron in this lineup I’d be interested in. A forged head with some helpful tech built in. For me I’d be testing it against the i230.

Agree on everything titleist. If they somehow made a t100 that felt like a mizuno 223, it might be the perfect iron… like ever. This lineup is really good, but personally, Id probably lean cb/mb over the tour

Right, those are so completely different that I could not even imagine anyone comparing them.

Beware of pics like that. The cb obviously has some camber to it, i remember when the 223 came out, everyone freaked out about the sole width, but when you saw it in person you understood it plays alot slimmer than it looks.

Wish the tours came with the same offset as the cb/mb. Or wish the cb was just a touch larger.

Hit the CBs today. Great looking and performing iron. Have hit many of the similar offerings across all brands and this was probably the best. Always been a Srixon guy so interested in the new ZX7, but this would be top of my list. I have always enjoyed the look of a slightly thicker top line while maintaining a smaller shape and these do so really well.

Hit the 2023 Cobra Tour irons today. They are AWESOME. Not as small as my t100s by the ball but not large (similar to like a 223). Here are some comparison against my t100s:

- feel is as good as the t100s and off center feels a heck of a lot better

- performance was better in the cobra tour with 800-1000 more spin but same ball speed as my t100s, with a higher ball flight

- forgiveness is def better in the cobra tour and off center strikes weren’t punished nearly as much. I think I lost 2-3 yards on non centered strike.

We also tested like 6-7 different shafts and my current shaft (project X 6.0) did the best. The other one that was close was S400 but I was concerned with that shaft in the longer irons.

Ended up ordering a set of 5-GW right away.

All In all I recommend people to try the Cobra Tour irons. They are not intimidating and provide awesome feel, performance, and forgiveness. I think Cobra did a hell of a job with these. 9/10 shots felt buttery and I’m not a super solid/consistent iron striker.

7 iron avg today was 84.2 chs, 113.4 ball speed, 155 carry, 6363 spin, 104 height and 51.3 landing angle.

Hit both the CB and Tour yesterday and they are awesome.

I went into thinking that I was going to do a CB/Tour combo but honestly, I think that I might have to go straight King Tour.

Spin rate was lower with the Tour than the CB.  Launch was lower with the King Tour, which is mainly from the loft difference between the two.

Really can not go wrong with either of them but the King Tour gave that little extra forgiveness that I am looking for.
