2023 Maxfli Tour, Tour X and Tour S

What's funny is When I play my Vice Pro, Maxfli Tour or Ksig V3 (SS around 93-95 - I like a ball a little clickier) I get a lot of curiosity and questions.  Most people are interested in an equal less expensive alternative.  Sometimes I get "Oh, I tried the "whatever ball" and just don't hit them as good as my ProV-1".  I call bulls**t because they are a 20 hcp and there's no way they can see or tell any difference between a ProV-1 and any of the others I mentioned.  I usually beat them by 10 strokes and it's even more sweeter when it's a Ksig.  For some reason it hurts a little more to a ball snob.

nothing like showing a ball snob up. My favorite so far of the year, I was playing a lime green Vice Pro Plus, took s*** from a Titleist snob for most of the round. 18th hole, really tough hole to reach in two due to 4 huge palm trees in front of the green. You need to smash a drive to the right side of the fairway, and be able to hit a big draw from around 200 yards around the trees to have any hope of reaching in 2. Snob hit his drive his normal 270 down the middle, I hit my drive around 310 to the right side of the fairway, right where I wanted it. He lays up to the right of the trees, and walks over to me. He kind of chuckled when he saw me aiming way right with my 6 iron, and I said I'm just going to hit a big draw around the trees.  Smacked a perfect draw, looked like a Kershaw slider gliding around the trees. When we got to the green, there was my lime green ball sitting about 12 feet from the hole. I just smiled at him and said not bad for a cheap green ball, huh? (of course I missed the putt, cuz I suck at putting)

I’ve gotten a few looks in tournaments about maxfli balls but mostly just a what is that mysterious creature. Got the same look when I played the Wilson staff model last year. Kinda a hidden gem that’s hidden because of brand bias not from lack of availability.

Wilson duo U was best kept secret. 

 

Now maxfli gets the win and I don't see dicks discontinuing this one anytime soon.

 

But the stare you get when you play at $$$ cc is real.

Its funny because Vice seems to have the niche. I am a member at a private club and no one will shame you for what ball you play but anything other than Titleist is a rarity. We have a lot of younger mini tour players on staff with Srixon or Titleist. Our pros are Callaway and TM. All play different balls I would say 80% of the rest of the club members are playing Titleist though. I've played Maxfli before and get some funny looks. Put a Vice in play and everyone is curious. They've heard about them and how good they are and want to try them. Most think I'm playing an ancient ball if I am playing Maxfli though. I put it down to  great social media marketing from Vice. Even the guys in their 60s are on some sort of social media and Vice has guerrilla marketed into their feeds.

Great ball, still have a few dozen left.  Bought the 2020 OnCore Elixir in 🟡 assuming it was the same, it is definitely not the same ball as it's noticeably softer😔.  Same cover/dimples.

They don't seem to have the same buy 2 or 4 dozen for a better deal as the white yet, at least not online. I guess I'll have to use my 20 dollar reward on one box for now.

I love the Tour S but unfortunately they were all white at the store. I should have bought it online for the yellow

version.

 

Edit: Forget it, they don't have the 4-dozen deal in yellow anyway. I am not paying $40 for Maxfli, at the price point might as well play Titleist AVX.

Yeah maybe call customer support and let them know the yellow needs to be the same deal as the white and they may hook you up with some member points to use for it. They need to fix it. It is a pretty good ball though.

If some of the matte green ones showed up again, I'd probably buy some.  Other than that, I don't think I'd purchase any of the prior generation balls unless they were discounted.  Seems odd that they have prior generation balls at the same price as the current models.

could be placebo effect but I liked 21 version better than 23. And it was before seeing MGS golfball test which put 21 version much higher than 23.

At least with compression variations if they miss they miss harder compression. Can’t stand when you get an odd compression and it feels like a marshmallow off the driver.

they rated the 21 an 85 and the 23 an 82. not sure that qualifies as "muc higher". ball lab isn't ball test either, that's just a quality rating based on consistency across boxes and consistency of the core/no imperfections.

My gamer is Tour X and 21 is significantly higher than 23.

Since playing the '23 Tour X, I will say that in High Winds, I don't think it holds up as well vs premium balls.  Still happy with the ball especially at the price point.

Has anyone thought about using a mixed of S and X in a round. For example using S for a long par 4 with driver and X for more spin on a short par 3 with raised green where extra spin is needed? Is it even legal for amateurs to do this?

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe this would be fine within the rules.  You just have to finish each hole with the same type ball you started it with.  
Having said that, I would rather play the same ball on both those holes as there’s a decent chance I’m chipping or pitching into the par 4 and will want that extra spin from the x or even tour.

One ball rule would say you can’t. Unless you are playing an official tournament under usga rules do what you want. Only thing I would be worried about with doing that is carry distances change and you are gonna get sporadic with front to back dispersion
