2023 Maxfli Tour, Tour X and Tour S

Played today a full 18 with the new Tour balls and it seemed to check up better than last generation’s balls that I was playing. I didn’t notice much rollout at all, although the greens seem to be a little softer than normal.

I think this year’s Tour balls are an improvement over the last models for my approach shots with mid to long iron shots.

My normal Bridgestone BX’s are probably getting replaced next year, so I expect the current line to go on sale soon. If they don’t go on sale, I would not have any problems playing the Maxfli Tour balls.

They seem to be closing the gap with my normal gamers and for the price, I am really happy with the performance.

I played Tour X all year, but finally ran out a couple weeks ago.  Bought Tour BX from Bridgestone and was getting the same distances at 44F that I was getting in the summer with Tour X.  With driver that is.

Driver: Cobra LTDX 9 degree; HZRDUS Smoke RDX Black

Fairway Wood: Taylormade M6 15 degree

Titleist u510 2 iron

Srixon ZX5 4-PW; ACCRA iSteel 115

Wedges Vokey SM9 58/54/48

Putter: Scotty Cameron Fastback 2

Swing is in a better place though.  Don't get me wrong.  I liked the Tour X, and especially at the pricepoint.  I do feel its a touch shorter than premium balls.  But spin so well, for me.

I played a few more rounds with the Tour. Now that I’ve gotten more rounds in, I can see a good improvement in the stopping power with my approach shots into greens. I really liked the last generation Tours, but it just rolled out a little more than I preferred with my short/mid irons. I wasn’t sure if the greens were maybe softer than normal on my first round out and I needed some more time to be sure. It looked like an improvement on my first time out. The next couple of rounds, there were a lot of one hop stops. I had a couple where the ball ended up in its own mark. Very nice…

The performance off the tee with my driver has been pretty similar to what I would expect from the last model. I wasn’t getting as much distance as the Bridgestone BX, but not very far off where I was disappointed.

The only bad thing I noticed was the yellow chipped off pretty easily over time. I remember that being an issue that with the previous generation as well. But it’s not a huge deal to me. It’s a minor issue and only cosmetic.

I know this is similar to my last post, but with I can now say with confidence that my early impressions were accurate. It’s a really good ball for the price. I wish I got more time in before the bigger sale over last weekend, but I’m going in on the next sale that comes around. I love that they are not commonly used (easy to find and not easily mistaken by others) and nobody wants to steal a Maxfli. I have to hit a really bad shot to lose one, and I have. But it doesn’t hurt so much when I do lose one. Maxfli improved on this one.

2 for 60, not bad if you don't need 4 dozen or trying to check it out.

That's the regular price. It's a perpetual sale.

Have tried all three balls.  The MaxFli Tour is working well for me. It is the Goldilocks ball of their line up for my game.

The Tour X feels firmer, spins a little too much and flies a bit higher than I like.

The Tour S feels softer, doesn’t quite spin enough and flies a bit lower.

An under appreciated feature of these golf balls is the Center of Gravity side stamp.  It saves me from having to use the EZ Go Check Pro machine that I use with other balls.

The previous generation side stamp with the double lines I liked more than the single line in use now.

The combination of quality, performance and value is compelling.

The hit the Tour model took in some ball laboratory test was for inconsistent weight with one of the three boxes tested coming in noticably lighter than the other two.

Bored out of my skull over a rainy holiday with most of the rest of the family sheltering with sickness - I weighed my stash of 4 dz Tour and 2 dz Tour S balls - using the scale that I use for my hop additions while brewing beer.  Three of my Tour boxes looked to be marked with the same batch number (if that's what that is on the inside of the box lid - and one had a different batch number.  Balls from the 3 dz batch came in anywhere from 45.4 grams to 45.6 grams - with the overwhelming majority at 45.5 grams and only one at 45.6.  The Unique batch dozen - every ball was 45.5 g.  The Tour S boxes were from the same batch and they both ranged from 45.4 to 45.6 - again with the overwhelming majority at 45.5 grams.

These numbers all convert to somewhere near 1.605 oz - which indicates that Foremost leaves perhaps around 0.015 oz on the table - or slightly less than half a gram.

Of course - none of my findings are valid - since my scale is not calibrated.  Like I said - bored out of my skull ......

The important thing to take away - is that I would call the weight results pretty darn consistent for both the Tour and Tour S.  That lab that did the test - reported results that varried by what looks to be 0.35 g or so - based on their picture.  I guess you have to draw the consistency line somewhere ...

I am absolutely in love with the Tour S. I am a longer player so I can accommodate the slight distance hit, and lower spin on iron shots is actually my preference. Feel is king for me, and the Tour S gives me the soft feel off the putter and slight squish off the driver that I like. It also doesn’t hurt that I matched my PB with an even par 72 a handful of rounds after switching. These Maxfli balls are the best deal going right now.

So If I play Bridgestone Tour X or Callaway CS LS or Pro V 1 or AVX, I would want the Tour S correct??

I used to play the previous generation all the time and played the Tour. Never the X but I assume the lower spin is what I am after.

I played both the regular Tour and the X. The X still shines for me as the best overall ball between the 2.  I went out and bought the 4 pack of the S for the winter and hated it. The ball doesn’t feel soft like an AVX or CS. It may perform ok but it was just a blah ball. I’m back to the X even though it’s cold. It’s just the best combination of distance and spin even though it’s hard. I don’t really notice a difference at all in height in my shots.

BX or CS X LS - lower spin high compression. The closest Maxfli is Tour X, though the Tour X is closer to the standard V1x.

V1 - standard compression tour ball. Maxfli Tour.

AVX - low compression and lower trajectory. The AVX is the only low compression ball that effectively has these flight characteristics. The Tour S was advertised as a lower priced AVX, but in reality it’s in between the standard ChromeSoft and the Bridgestone BRX.

After years of playing the BRX, I tried the Tour S. It was very soft and I lost distance through the bag.

Tried the Tour and it’s in the bag. A bit more firm than the BRX, similar window and distances for me and nice off the putter.

I've played the AVX for the last 3 seasons and tried the Tour S last spring as a test.  I didn't find any distance loss using the Tour S.  It spun a little more with the short irons and around the green, which I liked.  Given the change in the AVX this year, I'll be playing the Tour S for this season.

I would try it out before buying the big bulk packs to save money.

I’m a Bridgestone BX player and prefer the Tour. I’ve tried the previous Tour S and I preferred the Tour’s performance (distance and spin with driver, irons, wedges etc.) compared to the BX, in my opinion.
