Round recap:  Got up early to get to the course in time to actually warm up.  Tee time was 8:00 AM.  Started off a little shaky, thought I hit a good drive, but couldn’t find it, but same thing happened with 2 of the 3 guys I got paired with.  Got a bit better over the next 5 holes, basically split between 2 pars and 2 bogeys and a triple.  I don’t think I hit it as good as yesterday.

I felt something grab in my back on the 7th and tried to push through it, but had to retire after the 12th hole.  Basically was having trouble rotating and walking.  Figured instead of potentially doing something more severe, it was better to rest to see if I can keep my tee time on Monday.

Can tell you from experience you did the right thing by quitting. It will do no good doing like I did taking more CBD drinking Fireball and hitting a lefty and keeping on. Since coming to my senses and getting a dose of reality I realized I set my recovery and golf game back a year or more. I also had to realize my limitations of a limited swing and distance loss. It is just now starting to pay off some. Main thing with me is I can play as long as I do not exceed my limits without pain and meds. I came on the conclusion that it was not worth it for me to play a game even though I love it being zonked out to play and hurting the next 2 days

1st game of the season for the UNT Mean Green! We have a nice, shady tailgating spot, a good breeze, and enjoying some pre-game gumbo. We're 6.5 point dogs against Cal, the newest member of the geographically challenged ACC. We're hoping for our "the band is on the field!" moment.

Go Mean Green!

I do not know if this is true now but they used to call UNC Charlotte "Mean Green" too

What happened Honda?  Why is it such a complicated job to swap a radiator in a newer pilot?  I appreciate the way Germans put cars together the more non German cars I work on.

I miss my 88 accord.

German cars now days when they get old the electronics can be a biotch. My bud who owns his own shop used to be a Benz mechanic and he is good. His wife had some kind of Beemer and a tail light went out no joke and shut the whole car down. One of the reasons I got rid of my rusty S-500 and (I loved that rusty SOB) was because it had a myrid of electrical problems. Ran great with the AMG motor but you never knew if it would start back or not when you parked it. The Caddy is doing ok for now but really what I want is an older P/U with a carburetor and even an early GM or Mopar electronic ignition with a manual fuel pump. I can still diagnose and work on that stuff. My bud who owns the shop told me as bad as I hated to do so to get rid of the Benz.

North Carolina vs. South Carolina (Sep 2, 2023) Live Score - ESPN

LOL our course owner is like me born and raised in NC. Now unlike me he is a big UNC fan ( I do not care about any of them) He bets a lot of games in fact he is like my old man will bet on anything. He had an opportunity to talk crap yesterday. Gave away a SC cooler as one of the door prizes. Of course 99% of the guys even Ohio State fans were giving him crap. I told them to back off that he had bet so heavily on UNC that if they lost the price of beer at the course would go up $1 a can next week. That shut most of them up. One of the outsiders who does not know me quipped "well who are you pulling for?" One of our regulars who knows me answered before I could " Stuey could give 2 schmitts less who wins or loses" LOL thank you Timmy

Oh I don’t hate them.  I just said that to be silly.  I actually love the current coach.  Really good man.  I do prefer ECU , I’m just partial because of family in Greenville Nc and i came to love that little town .  I could absolutely live there and play Brook Valley CC every day of the rest of my life.  One of the most restful places I’ve ever been. I don’t know why.  Just is.

Yeah Brook Valley is nice overall---- I played a lot at Greenville Golf and Country Club when I was a kid my old mans friend was the pro there. Good Lord!!! Just did the Math it is close to 50 years since I played either place

Well. There’s always next year.  Maybe one year we can get an O line AND a quarterback at the same time 😂.  This is how it is to be a gamecock fan.  It’s going to be a rough season-in conference, after seeing this . UNC is decent.  But it’s mostly a great QB.  This defense isn’t anything special.  Our line is just that bad.  Wow.

So I take it UNC won?? So the price of beer will not go up next week at the course unless they did not cover the point spread

I felt for the B-52s when they came through town.  They started out with Private Idaho and of course the place goes nuts.  I don’t go in the pit bc I can’t stand that long, but the second song is Party Out of Bounds.  What a great song.  The MT folks know Roam, Love Shack, PI and Rock Lobster.  200 people go cold and just stand there.  Not surprisingly the energy left us, and them, when they did give me back my man I thought the pit was going to nap.  Horrible show and much of it falls on the crowd.

Buy I saw this year a disaster! Someone died 😳 and it torrential rain 🌧️ flash flood and everybody’s gotta shelter in place!

Dang it, I wanted to see if you enjoyed the course.

I played it often when I lived in Green Valley and I liked the track. One of my rounds there was most memorable. 😉

Posted October 9, 2017

This story took place in October of 2006 in Las Vegas.

Being that I have worked in the Hospitality Industry most of my life I have had the luxury of heading out to play golf Monday mornings while pretty much the rest of the world goes back to work. My work week ends Saturday night, so for decades I had Sundays and Mondays off.

One particular Monday I did not have my usual game. I wanted to play so I thought I would just go out as a single and get paired up. I went to the Stallion Mountain Golf Club east of the strip off of Boulder Hwy (It was the old Sunrise CC opened by Tour player Jim Colbert and was the location of Chip Beck's 59 during the 1991 LVI Tour stop). I walked into the pro shop and told the individual at the desk I was a single. The man said that the course was wide open and there were no other golfers but me wanting to play for a couple of hours. I said oh well looks like I am playing solo. I headed to the range for my warm up small bucket. I was at the range about 15 minutes when the starter walked over to me and said a single was just paying his greens fees and would I mind if he joined me. I said I would welcome that and continued to hit balls. Five minutes later I see a gentleman walking towards the range. This is the image that I saw. A extremely well dressed golfer with a nice Callaway Staff Bag over his shoulder. He was wearing high end golf clothes( think sold in CC Pro shop's type apparel) , top of the line Foot Joy Classics and a TOUR Callaway cap. Now inside these fine golf clothes was a man who I immediately thought was one of the ZZ Top band members, see his beard came down to the middle of his stomach. We shook hands and introduced ourselves. We loaded up the cart and headed to the first tee. It has been my way to let any golfer/s that I am randomly paired up with set the tone regarding how much interaction we have with one another while playing. For almost the entire front nine Steve and I may have had 4 sentences each between one another and they were all golf related. Maybe a wind direction question or a what iron you were hitting on a par 3 tee box, but that was the extent of it. Steve was a good player. I would say a solid mid single digit handicap. Remember now this was a very good golfer dressed in fine attire and hitting players clubs that were housed in a pristine Callaway Staff Bag (no name embroidered). Somewhere during the 11th hole he turned to me and asked if I liked music and if there was a type of music I liked best. I answered that I was a kid who was raised in the Motor City during the Motown years and loved that music, but I was a rock and roller at heart for sure. He asked if I had a favorite band or two? I said I liked so many but my favorite was Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. He said he liked Tom Petty too. That was is it for any interaction between us for most of the back nine. We talked a bit when Steve asked me about a couple of holes lay out (as he told me on the first tee this was his first time on the track), but that was all in the way of interaction between us. We get to the 18th tee box, the two of us had played well up to that point and there was a very mellow enjoyable tone to the round. On the the tee box he asked me what I was dong that upcoming Saturday Night. I told him I worked on the strip and Saturday Night was the busiest night of the week for me. He asked if I could get the night off if I wanted to. I replied that if it was something important I could indeed get someone to cover for me yes. He replied good because...... I'm Steve W********* and I am Mike Campbell's guitar tech and have been with the Heartbreakers for over 20 years. I asked so you are not Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top? He laughed and said no he was not Billy Gibbons. He said I would like to put you on the VIP list for backstage access Saturday Night. Tom Petty was headlining the 2006 Vegoose outdoor music festival. Gentlemen I went and saw how the show comes together and functions like a well oiled machine during the performance. It was quite a new perspective for me regarding a live Petty show. I danced away as I always did to many songs at a Petty concert. I was on the side of the stage with other people who had the same pass that I did. This was the 8th time I had seen Tom Petty live. Did I meet the band or my favorite musician? No, but It was a very special night regardless. It was a night that was provided to me because two strangers got paired up together for a round of this great game and they enjoyed each others company quite a bit.

Thank you Steve W.

Gentlemen last week I sent Steve a message containing my condolences and thanking him again for that wonderful backstage experience. He replied that I was most welcome for the VIP pass he provided me over 10 years ago. He thanked me for my well wishes and added that it was tough (Toms passing) and was out of the blue.

With Tom's death last week I thought I might share this story involving my favorite game and my favorite Rock and Roller and how they came together one week in Vegas.

Rest in peace Tom Petty.

Everybody laughs at still having a antenna but I'm no slave to the cable and satellite company's. They can fight all they want.

Holy, thanks 🙏 you just reminded me! I have an antenna! I got it the last time I was threatening to quit cable 🤣. It works great. I can at least get ABC with it.

But they gotta make a deal, I can’t imagine both sides are going to miss out on what must be an absurd amount of money 💰 with fall spots season coming and just in general
