That's a heck of a start for the rookie. Strong first round, and improved each day. We'll see if the nerves get to her in the final round, but she's looking like she's on cruise control.

aThis is called being in the zone.  It happens from time to time that a player simply can't miss for several rounds.  Before we anoint her as the next anything, let's see her under pressure several weeks in a row.

Happy for her and enjoying the enthusiasm.  But pump the breaks on any superlatives.  The annals of golf history are littered with players that won 1 or 2 or 3 times in their career.

Enjoy her play for what it is.....a high level of golf.  Let's have this discussion in a few months if she is still in the mix.

@OnTheBag

Thanks for sharing your insights.

Today, the commentators talked about how Vongtaveelap's caddie was constantly talking to her, to try to keep her "loose".  (Similarly, they talked about how despite Nelly Korda's self-deprecating personality = very different vs her caddie Jason McDede's upbeat "you've got this/ you can do it" personality... that it was "a good fit" and McDede was a vital component to Korda's success.

The caddie's influence on the golfer's performance/ getting "in the zone"/flow state (or getting out of a funk) = discussed in this academic analysis: (a multi-university/sports science institutes study on "Connecting Analysis of 'Flow' in Elite Golf (Exploring the Interactions Underlying Flow States: A Connecting Analysis of Flow Occurrence in European Tour Golfers).

Crazy how these randos pop up in the ladies game. What a display to put on, and will probably be irrelevant in 2 years time.

She is no rando

she  turned pro a few months a go and won a couple smaller and qualifying tournaments already

she plays a different game  from the rest of the ladies

course is easier  than  when average players play it

tees up  on par 3s  plus  15th is short plus the last is  435/480 not 530

Black tees is  well over 7000 yards

Par  72  but really  69 or 68

90F  and light winds also  help the scoring

interestingly  the 15th which plays 320 or 265 depending on which tee is used  is 420  or so off the back tee with a  260 yard tee shot  short of the water and avoiding the big tree. I was a 6 handicap  few years ago and  its a great par  4 from the mens tee never mind  the back

The best lady golfers  in the world  come  and the tees up a minimum of 70 to 120 !

To make a driveable par 4 probably.  It’s not like they’re doing that every hole!

We still gotta play it out by I'm giving it to the rook, 4 shot lead on this course and I highly doubt she'll go backwards.  I doubt jeeno will be able to drop another really low one like that to put pressure on the leader.  Outside Jeeno maybe Celine has a chance if fires a 64, I doubt we will see the leader comeback, there have probably been about 20 over par rounds by the field in 3 days.

sure they are   every tee box used has at least   tee boxes behind it. Last hole played  430  on Friday. I think the leader hit wedge or at the most a 9 iron into it

Par  3s  average about  50  yard  forward  than the very back tee

The course plays shorter than when open to the members guests etc  .

Loved the coverage of the 2nd round, must have shown 20 players hitting multiple shots and not just puts.

A bit too much chat from the commentators but that's just my taste.

Fun course, bit short and wide but some interesting green configurations.

Should be a super weekend, great to have the LPGA back, this season will be sooo interesting.

Oh, also interesting to see that you need both great ball-striking and great putting to contend/win. It's why Minjee won't win a stack of majors, probably the same for Jeeno.

it is short  by  LPGA  set up and yes its wide i would say 40m  between  tree lines

Its over 7000 yards from the tips and a lot more fairway bunkers come into play

If Minjee switching caddies was supposed to help with her putting, I think we'll see another new one next week. Ugh.

i always  think its not how you putt its where you putt from

10 feet short of the hole or 30 feet past its a big difference and many players   love to say how bad their putting is when other factors at play

You're in the wrong place for such a logical, sensible idea. Not only here, but the golf media will be hyping this youngster to the point of mental exhaustion.

Looks like Rolex better get another watch ready! I only give Jeeno an outside chance to beat Vongtaveelap as I can't see Vongtaveelap finishing worse than -24 today. Be nice to see Lydia with a top 5 finish but her aim today should be to just finish higher than Nelly to widen her gap at the top of the RR.
