Odyssey re-releasing Versa Jailbird

It would be cool if they had a way to track them by serial number and prevent flippers from buying them just to sell them for double or triple. 

 

I want to buy one and actually use it.

I can't believe they are releasing them at this price.  They could get double that.  Gotta hand it to them for not getting too greedy.

I’ve got a center and heel shafted one. Center shaft has lead tape slathered on bottom and 2 full grip length wraps under the grip, super heavy but I love it!! Beenlike that for several years. It’s a mainstay in my bag!

I don’t think there is any thing special about the Jailbird head design. It’s the total package that is working for Rickie and the others. Added head weight, longer shaft, counter balancing. Gripping down so that the grip counterweight is above your hands. You can take your favorite putter and build it out like that and not worry about chasing limited editions.

 

Fads on the PGA Tour spread like wild fire. I remember Royal grips (the precursor of the Golf Pride tour wrap grip) of the ‘80’s. They caught on and suddenly dozens of pros were playing them. Soon after graphite iron shafts were the next big thing.

They should make the O-Works body for adjustable weighting with a choice between the white hot or o-works insert.

@easyyy got these specs directly from Joe Toulon in April/May(?)

 

i.e. at that time, was 39". (so there appears to be some subsequent tweaking i.e. getting progressively shorter).

With the "poor" quality control of Odyssey putters... Off the rack (horrible loft/ lie) all over the place, wonder if they will put 1 of these grips on straight? lol... If it had the WH insert though I would be all over it. The MH insert is just way toooooooo soft for me, even at this crazy over all weight...

I had that happen with a club one time though it was not a putter. It was an Wilson Original R-90 SW. Nothing special there either it came out of a barrel among 30 others like it at Martins Golf in MB. I actually wore it out. Went through 5 or 6 more like it could never capture the magic

I have 3 of them the one I am playing right now is heel shafted the other 2 are center shafted. The one I am playing now looks exactly like the one you have pictured but the shaft lean is a little different

As bad as this sounds they can not do anything about someone buying and flipping them. The only way they can do anything is if the seller is a Callaway dealer. But someone like you or I that buys it legit they can do nothing about if you flip it for like 3x the price

All three of mine have a interesting story which I will tell all of in another place and time. All 3 of them came off an independent tour van in like 08 or so. When we had the golf shop we bought 7 heads and the one heel shafted one I have now

Yeah this hype is nothing compared to the Rossie II after the 96 Masters.  Pros were buying them from retail. 😂

I understand whenever the tour players catch on and some start using a certain club or doing a certain everyone else wants to follow suit as well. 
 

But I don’t ever remember a club being as popular as this one has.

Of those three it's Scheffler who really needs to try something new. He's a blade guy who refuses to change. JT already uses a mallet with very little toe hang and Zalatoris is already using an off-the-wall high MOI monstrosity

I don't remember a club used by multiple different pros (in the last 20 years) take off like this other than the original Jason Day/Dustin Johnson spider putters. 

 

In this case we have one of the top 5 five most popular golfers, Slick Rick, in the midst of an awesome comeback story and playing the best golf we've seen from him since pre-COVID. The current US Open champ (and Wells Fargo champ, an elevated event this year) who copied his setup exactly (something that has been widely publicized) playing out of his mind. And finally Keegan Bradley setting a scoring record at the Travelers and currently top 30 in SG:Putting for possibly the first time in his career after being outside of the top 100 since belly putters were banned.

 

I think it's one of those rare instances where length/weight/counterbalancing/visual alignment aids and cues meshed perfectly. Timing is everything and it just so happens that everything clicked for three really likeable guys in the span of a month. 

 

All that to say, YES I'll be ordering one 😂
