Swinging a golf club should be as natural as throwing a ball….

Recommended Posts

ha yeah I saw that and was surprised. But, I'd be willing to bet that if he had 30 min instruction with a good pitching coach to extend his arm and load back leg then he would look a lot better very quickly. He obviously then knows how to sync his upper and lower body well.

That is correct. My post is a parody of people say you shouldn’t teach mechanics and use that exact phrase as evidence

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

lol, he's not American. Looks like he has never thrown a baseball before.

Everytime I've watched a British or European yt instructor talk about making a throwing motion invariably they will make a quick demo and it's always awkward to my eye... Probably what I'd look like if I tried to demonstrate how to kick a ball.

Right, that’s the whole point. Throwing a ball and swinging a club is not natural. In order to be competent, not injure yourself, and get better, you need to be taught and learn proper movements.

My wife can shoot a basketball exceptionally well. Her dad played at Clemson so she and her siblings did a lot of shooting with their dad when they were young. One night (among many😏), she snapped and tried to throw a box of Girl Scout cookies at me. She hit the window 90° to the right of me. The window was fine (she has no zip either). She never played catch with her dad. I assume Rory never played catch with his.

I once watched a middle school classmate throw a ball backwards in PE.... Im in my 30s and still think about it to this day.

How? Did it slip out of his hand and drop or arc behind him?

Or do you mean like a "no look" reverse, intentional toss?

What's particularly funny is how many people would think he'd at least know how to use his hips in throwing a ball and yet, nope.

"natural as throwing a ball"?....

Throwing is an unnatural motion. Which I'm guessing is Monte's point. That's why you have to be a freak of nature to reach the major leagues as a pitcher. Freaks of freaks have multi year careers and there's probably more than one surgery involved during that career due to arm damage.

Now if we were talking about fastpitch softball pitchers then it's a different story.

Bingo, he didn’t get his hips open like Nolan Ryan.

I don’t have Instagram so I can’t watch the video but this older YT doesn’t look too bad. High but close to the plate I think.
