Ping i530 Leaked Photo

Recommended Posts

Here’s a look from address in the i530. The summary says it is using an eva polymer so hopefully they fixed the sound/feel issue.

CHARACTERISTICS

  • A weight pad pushes mass down to lower the center of gravity and to help the face flex.
  • An EVA polymer improves feel and sound without hindering face flex.
  • Tightly spaced grooves (an average of four more per iron) increase spin.
  • 7-iron: 29 degrees; PW: 42 degrees

42 degree PW?, that can't be right surely

That would be stronger than the i500 and i525 that are 30.5* and 45* respectively for their 7-iron and PW lofts.  The current Power Spec loft for the 7-iron is 29*, but it’s 44* for PW.

I feel like GD listed the PW specs for the G730 on the page for the i530. At least I hope so.

It says the new i530 irons will have C300 maraging steel for the face. Does anyone know what the material is for the i525 face?

I bet it's the same. I know the body is 17-4 Stainless Steel, same as the G430 irons.

After checking on the C300 material, it's a maraging steel. It's the same as what ping uses in the i500 irons and i'm sure in the i525 irons. Think i'm going to look at ordering a set of the i525's to save about $50 per iron, don't think it's going to be that big of a improvement .

Hmm. Perhaps the lofts are correct. Not sure how I feel about it but testing will tell. Maybe a 52/56 or 52/58 wedge setup is in my future.

At first glance, it looks like they went to 4* gaps between 7,8,9 instead of the 5* gaps in the i500 / i525. This is what is making the PW end up at 42* instead of 45* (like the i500 / i525).

Hard to believe, that's cheaper than the I230 per iron.

Address pics so far look like more offset than i525. Hopefully just bad angles. My 525’s look great at address. And if the posted lofts are correct what are they doing? My i525’s are plenty long at standard lofts. All they needed to do is work on feel and sound and neither of those bother me much. Seems like to much change. Unlike Ping. I’ll wait until they confirm all that’s being reported.

I had the I500’s and then the i525’s. Even though they made improvements on sound, any strike minimally off center sounded like an aluminum baseball bat. I ditched both within 6 month.

The other issue I had was catching flyers. Where a normal 7i was 175-180, it was not uncommon for a 200yd shot if it was high on the face out of the rough. Just couldn’t predict it.

I love Ping but had to move on.
