Well, I’ll tell you what. Luke Donald sounds pretty darn good in the booth. If I were NBC I’d put a pin in it, and sign him.

And my comment started before his short miss just now.

Wondered exactly that. Can’t putt. And when he can putt he’s hammering it over the green. I think if he can sink a few putts it may help his confidence. He’s having trouble hitting top 10. He’s waiting for the stars to align; patience and all that. Scheffler and Rory should putt a few together. Who knows? Can’t be all that bad an idea.

Different kind of start. No fire from some of the seasoned vets, but Lowry and Hideki showed up ready to play. Solid day for Spieth and JT.

 

Knapp was all over the place. Aberg looked like he might do something when I first tuned in then fell on hard times. Theegala was magic out of that nasty rough. Min Woo was cooking on a nice low simmer.

 

Those greens are sliiiick. I seem to have to see it every year before I remember that's the norm for this tourney, but most of the guys at the top got them figured out.

 

A few players are probably going to be very thankful for no cut come tomorrow evening. Scott & Simpson need to turn something on tomorrow with all that's following them around at the moment.

 

Going to agree with whoever pointed it out earlier that winners should be moved out of the 5/10 special slots to get a few more of the guys having a great season into as many events as possible. A slightly larger field than this wouldn't have hurt at all.

All that talent rory has...yet hes not good so far. I said it before, he won't win a major again.

Rory drives me nuts. Been a massive fan for years for a decade plus since we're same age and met him a few times at BMW champ. This year I just don't care. I don't see any part of his game getting better. Faxon just happens to be a good putter, I don't think that matters when it comes to help.

 

I've never seen someone so concerned with starting the ball straight that he never has proper speed. He doesn't with his other clubs. I'd rather see Rory go back to a heel shafted newport slant neck and just start hitting putts out of the heel and toe until he can match up his arc with straight. Stop trying to square everything up. Uhh his stroke is gross looking.

Agree on the putter.  He also played his best golf as a drawer of the ball. Why he doesn’t go back to drawing the ball eludes me.

He is number one on tour off the tee, nothing wrong with his long game. Everything else is off and outside the top 100.

 

161st on tour from 125-150 yards.

162nd on tour from 100-125 yards.

 

Not going to do it when you're constantly driving into that range on par 4s.

Needs to go left hand low. Yes, I’m still a 15-20 handicap but my putting is way better after the change.

He hits every club like his driver: hard. Rory does a very poor job of gearing down his wedges on full shots. It's a little crazy since at really close range he can hit all kinds of finesse shots and make them stop on que, but for some reason he only has one speed from 100+ or so. 

 

He also turns into a Pouty Patty when things go wrong and no one's immune to that kind of body language helping to tank the day.

Sadly, I’m finding the elevated events are downright boring.  No fire in the bellies, a general lackadaisical attitude and downright poor play from most of the invited.  Lots of missed shots, ain’t seen anybody truly putting well either.

 

Gimme the newbs, amateurs and pros wanting to win.

69 guys in the field is too small. I like the Shotgun Start (podcast) suggestion of 100. Also, the cut seems pretty useless, I think overnight it was like 4 guys who would miss the cut if it had been yesterday.
