Yes. I'm sure he's just dying to make $ 30,000/year...

6 figures if she does well at the USWO

Lexi is back to being good again since the Solheim Cup

Outside the PGA, JT wasn't exactly raking in the green for him.

If he wants $, go to LIV 😁😁

If that was the case, he would be winning or at least be top 10 a lot more often than he is.  At this point Rory is a waste of talent more so than a supreme talent as you suggest. Of course you have to have supreme talent to be a waste so I guess you have a point.

However, if you think the caddie doesn't matter or has little value, than you do not have a very good understanding of competitive golf at the top level

I've never said or thought that caddies don't matter. I had a brief experience caddying on the old European Tour so I've seen first-hand for myself what is involved and how much of a difference it can make at the elite level. It was only ever going to be short-term for me but I've got a good understanding from real experience.

Thanks.  Was JT ever a great putter?

And although the article fails to state it, poor putting by Thomas could be an indication of problems at home.

Your thoughts?

No idea.  I have not followed Justin closely.  He never struck me as a bad putter though. That's why the article caught my attention.

There's that old saying that tournament golf at the highest level is 90% mental. But I'd say that maybe it's actually 90% 'character' (and whatever combination of ego / will / discipline / upbringing / environment / ambition / soul-spirit / humility / needs / underlying belief-systems / desire / choice-making etc describes and comprises that). In terms of sheer talent, I don't think I've ever seen more purely and/or naturally talented professional golfers than Greg Norman and John Daly -- but both ended up with 'only' two majors, the former (subtly) self-sabotaging and/or unlucky on the golf course, but otherwise presenting as a confident and healthy-minded and highly successful individual in life, the latter (overtly) self-defeating on the golf course, and otherwise presenting as rambunctiously addicted (gambling, drinking etc) and happily self-destructive in life.

All of which is to say: I think when it comes to major championship wins, it 'all comes out in the wash'.  There has to be top-flight talent in order to win more than one, that's for sure -- but there's also a certain character required. I don't know the first thing about JT or his 'character' or his inner life (nor about Rory's etc.). He certainly seems outwardly more in the healthy-minded camp, but if he's got 'only' 2 majors, well, maybe that's precisely how many he 'should' have -- and I don't think his choice of caddy will have much impact one way or another.

yep ... if he can't figure out the putting, doesn't matter who's on the bag ...

I like JT, I think he's a bit of a head case / underachiever. I'm sure Bones will be fine one way or the other.

I generally trust whatever I read about golf  but in this case involving Bones I believe we are not getting the "whole" truth.

It's forced me not to trust other things in my life, such as people named after a US city.

Sage advice, but complex as well. What if a person is named after a city named after a person??? Determining trustworthiness may require peeling back some layers.

LOL, he's never going back to Phil.

Bones and JT seemed like a poor match to start with even though they are both excellent at what they do.  Not surprised they didn't gel even though I don't know either of them personally.

Agree.  I was surprised at that pairing.

JT isn't much of an interactor, fights mental issues, while Bones appears to like his opinion on all aspects, acknowledged.  Bones likes big money too, so his employer needs to be generous even when he doesn't make cuts.

Most other players trust their caddies to assist with reads. It's dumb how many times Rory keeps effing up putts and burning edges when just two or three more dropping sees him taking a win outright. He doesn't need to pull a Wyndham and have his caddie change his diaper and aim his putts for him, but refusing to trust your caddie to remind you of the tendencies near or on the green is no bueno.

There's also hitting low percentage shots when the middle ground would give him better chances and not remembering to dial back from 125 and in. All of those are things good caddies regularly help their players with that Ror's best bud brings none of.

TBF I'm sure he hasn't gone another route because he's not willing to listen and he knows no one else would stay on his bag doing nothing but carrying and chatting for five and six days at a time. Show up, keep up, shut up worked when most others also had caddies who gave no input, but most give intelligent insights now so not availing yourself of that is a distinct disadvantage.

Trust must be earned!  It starts when you meet someone.

Let's say you want to get in a quick 9 after work and they tell you, I have another member here ready go.  He shows up at the first tee, sticks out his hand and says, "Hello, I am Dick St. Louis."   Any normal person or WRX'er is going to question it.

As they should!

Bhatia and Bones would be awesome!

Probably hard to beat the local knowledge Bones has at pretty much every major tour stop. Bhatia really seemed to gel with the guy he had temping on the bag this week, though. They mentioned he used to coach a collegiate program previously but sounds like he's open to a full-time gig.

They said Bhatia's agent is looking for the right fit at caddie. Just makes sense
