There’s a decent argument to be made that the current LPGA tour is a far more competitive environment than the eras of all of those golfers she’s being compared to (with the obvious  exception of Tiger)

Fair point. A counterpoint is that very few professional golfers, men or women, have ever recorded wins in 2,3 or more consecutive starts, let alone 5+, regardless of the depth of talent on their repsective tours at the given moment in time. It's extremely difficult to win a single golf event let alone string wins in consecutive starts together.

As great a season as Lilia Vu had in 2023 with 4 wins, 2 majors Nelly just had her "hold my beer" moment. 2024 LPGA POY is already over and done with.

Even after this, there will still be a few deluded “Bros” who think a “real Scratch WRX Player” , with a “game that travels”. Could take Nelly down in a 72 hole comp.  As long she had to play the back tees with them…..

The good news is the 4 cappers have given up on that.

Not entirely. That thread from a few months back had a number of lost souls convinced that equivalent could take Korda based on her play against the +1 YouTuber she beat... playing from the men's tees to boot.

Nelly's streak is amazing as were all of the others. Interesting that it appears you seemingly want to diminish Nelly's accomplishment.

I only watched Tigers streaks so I can't compare the others but you could argue on many different metrics why the others streaks were more or less impressive but also what's been falling in Nelly's favour to win including other top players with injuries...

Or you could flip the script by saying the wins by other women during Nellie's absence from her injuries and blood clot were diminished?

I don't think so.

The other players mentioned winning streaks equaled/bettered came with their own set of unique circumstances/metrics as well. I get the stark impression that if a certain player from the southern hemisphere currently named Lydia was the author of this same historical streak you would view it through a much different and more positive lens. 🤔

This is one of the best things to happen to womens professional golf in quite some time. You should allow yourself to enjoy it as it's quite possible it won't be equaled/bettered for us to see any time soon as it appears as a once in a generation thing. Why do some many people in the LPGA sub-forum seem to not like the LPGA?

As important as for her record, Nelly's second major and her winning five consecutive starts has struck a cord with the general public.  Her Instagram followers has jumped more than 30,000 to 851,000 since the start of Chevron Championship and is still going strong.

She gained 130,000 followers to 360,000 followers over her two weeks gold medal campaign in 2021 Tokyo Olympics.  But this recent run feels different, it seems more sustained and may likely push her to 1.0 million and beyond.

With only 3 players in the field shooting in the 60's on Sunday, it's hard to argue that the course lacks teeth, but I still feel the approaches are a tad too easy with little danger in front of many greens.

I know the LPGA plays some sort of hybrid tees on many holes but who would determine what's fair for Nelly v Scottie? I think Scottie would be okay with Nelly playing from women's tees. Best iron player in the world with a p**** should not be afraid.

The longest back nine in her entire life. Sadly, I don't think she's wrong.

The LPGA always seems to shoot themselves in the foot.  They finally have a compelling story wirh a dominant player on an alltime heater and they can'yt get a final round done in under 5 hours?  How inept.  Like no tourney has ever had stands behind a green before used as a bailout.  Their "product" management can't get any worse.

It's 2024. Who uses the term Women's Tees? Most courses have several teeboxes rated for women.

Man, they really aren't geared up to produce worthwhile TV, when play is slow.  They show the final group hit shots, then have to go to commercial, then 30 seconds of aerial footage, then people standing around, then some stats, then more standing around, then a snippet for some NBC tv show, more standing, then a couple putts from another group.

So little golf is actually being shown.

It's unbelievable. They could barely do a worse job. If the play it that slow, it actually affords the opportunity to show every shot of the contenders, but they didn't show half of them. On the par 5 13th, Im had a crucial chip to get up and down for birdie and back into contention. But they chose to show Nelly waiting on the fairway for Im's group! Unbelievable!

Please define 'rated for women'. I'm in a couple leagues and they are loose as not one person has a handicap rating. I assume that's what you mean. We just like to play. When I'm up north, I guess they're called the 'red' tees, when I'm in FL, they are the green tees OR the ones I like are the "Friendlies"/yellow tees.

I kind of expected Nelly to WD this week until I heard her discuss her flight to LA during an interview yesterday. Still, I get it. Hopefully we'll see her on the east coast.

Congratulations, Nelly.  She now has 16 Hall of Fame points and catapulted over Brooke Henderson to rank solo 5th among active players:

Lydia Ko (26), Jin Young Ko (20), Stacy Lewis (19), Ariya Jutuanugarn (17).

Nelly has six points so far this year.  Right now, she's also leading the Vare and the Player of the Year races.  She's likely to get another point even if she doesn't win again this year.  For comparison, Lydia got seven points in 2015 and JYK got 8 points in 2019.  Seasons like these go a long way to the 27 point finish line.

No disrespect to the Minjee, Brooke, Lexi type players, but Nelly has now joined the Inbee, Lydia, JYK group; a bit of separation vs. the very very good (on more than one occasion).

I've never been a Nelly fan but what we are seeing is amazing.
