Does he want to try and get into Oklahoma State?
I would go with Texas ATM. Osuat any other time.
While that is a good school, his son is a Fowler fan. Also OSU is ranked higher then A&M.

Agent Jim: he has narrowed it to three as of right now: OSU, UT or Arizona but things can change :)

It is time for some updates I guess........

Where to start~

Stratton last month was at PING fitting for the new i20 and generally checking everything out to see what changes if any they wanted to make.

I will start by listing what he is presently gaming:

PING i20 3w strong 13 degrees : Graphite Design Tour AD DI 8 S shaft : Iomic Opus2 grip white/orange

PING Anser wedge 60 degrees : Dynamic Gold Tour issue Wedge Shaft : Iomic X evolution grip white / red : (3 wrap reverse taper)

PING Anser "0" Milled putter w/sight dot : Tungsten heel / toe weighted to 355g

Here are some pics of his gamers plus a few other putters in his room: (he has extra wedges, a i20 5w and some others he occasionally bags)

Sweet! Breck, are those custom paint jobs on the i20's? Can you post some more pics of his new Ping bags?

His i20 driver and fw currently are standard as far as paintfill goes. I did hear him contemplating doing some paintfill to the soles though. (he does his own paint fill now good.gif.

I will get some pics of his PING bags. This is not all of them though LOL. He has a few more that I will add for a shot.

Is that two 3 woods? or an optional 5 wood depending on setup

That is his 5w in the pic, only uses it occasionally depending on the course. He is working on a 3i hybrid replacement as well, but has not found what he is totally happy with.

tell us about his iron shafts...pulls that were then installed into his S56's or were they ordered this way via PING WRX?

They are old shafts that PING still has in the Tour dept I am guessing. I dont think they are an option, but they are a really light shaft. Stratton has always liked the feel of the head being heavy with the irons. Even through a LOT of testing, he always gravitates back to the PING ZZ shafts. All of the club work is done by the WRX dept at PING.

What length are his woods at?

He has always played his Driver .5" long, standard FW & Hybrid all 1 degree flat. This i20 however is standard length. Not sure why they did it this time, but he likes it just the way it is.

What was the process of getting on PING junior development program?

PING has their program reps at most of the bigger junior events. They look just like a college coach watching players. They scout just like coaches and invite some players by handing them a business card following a round or event to see if they are interested in PING. I think there are a lot of different levels of support, but to tell the truth, I don't know how that works. Stratton met his rep after he finished a round at a regular AJGA open event.

I DO KNOW ONE THING......

PING is the most unbelievable company I have ever seen. Having been there personally and seeing how the employees interact with each other, and how they treat my son is just what you would expect if it were a small family business, but it is a major huge corporation. Big props to everyone there at the tour side. It is obvious they have great people in place that really like what they do.
What differences did you guys see that prompted the move from the AD-DI to the Kyoshi in the driver?
I did not travel with Stratton to PING, this last trip, but I will convey what he found.
They had an i20 setup exactly to his specs when he got there with his DI shaft and all.
Testing that setup, his launch angle was a bit low and the descent was too shallow, so they started experimenting.
He tired a BUNCH of shaft combos and it came down to the Kiyoshi & a Mitsubishi Diamana ilima shaft that were producing the numbers that they wanted. Some changes go a good direction and some they try don't work, but they seem to know what tweeks are needed to consistently improve the numbers. He said they worked a couple of hours on just the driver.
In the end, the Kiyoshi was consistently better on slight mis-hits and his dispersion was super tight. He liked the feel of all of the shafts, but numbers dont lie. The Kiyoshi was longer & straighter for him. They did increase his loft quite a bit from his G15 setup too. He loves everything about the i20 series. I honestly did not think you could pry the G15 from him, but he is loving his new sticks.

Why the reverse taper on the wedge grips?

A lot of the players have this done. Here is what it looks like. It increases the diameter of your grip toward the bottom. If you ever have to slightly choke down, or choke down a lot, it really helps with your feel. Stratton has this wrap on his PW - SW & LW.

If you have this done, you WILL most definitely be able to tell the difference. It only takes minutes to do.
Cut 3 pieces of tape, 1.5", 2.5" & 3.5" and one full piece of grip tape.
Measure where the bottom of the grip will be on the shaft. Hold your thumb there.
Apply the 1.5" piece touching your thumb.
Apply the 2.5" piece over that rotating the seam to the opposite side of the shaft
Apply the 3.5" piece over that rotating the seam to the opposite side of the shaft
Apply the full piece of grip tape rotating the seam to the opposite side of the shaft
Install the grip
As long as it took me to type that is how long it takes :)

I wish there were some more higher ranked Div I schools here in Florida. For all the universities we have down here, with year round golfing, it doesnt make much sense why programs wouldn't go better. It seems like the western usa owns the collegiate golf. Thanks for keeping us updated. i wish him the best in the year to come.

On a side note, I'll be in Austin for the United State Grand Prix in November. I can't wait, I already booked my hotel and airfare. Austin looks like a cool town.
