How many different courses have you played?

Recommended Posts

What was your favorite?
Just curious as to how many different courses others on the forum have played. Someone I spoke to brought the subject up to me during a conversation because I seemed to know all the courses in the area. So I decided to a list and document the courses I have played. Of course being in Florida and having access to online tee times has helped quite a bit. My number at the moment is 98.

Favorite course I played so far was TPC Sawgrass, mainly because I've watched the tournament for years and it was fun to play the same course. Biggest surprise course for me was Mission Inn El Campeon, really liked the layout of the course.

Hmm not sure how many Ive played, def not as many as most on here thats for sure. But having played in North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and New Mexico, my 2 favorites would have to be Paa Ko Ridge in New Mexico(just a cool course with fantastic views, playability, and conditions), and Redtail Mountail in NC/TN.

April of this year will be my 4th year anniversary for golfing. I have played 65 courses to date with most of those being in Kentucky, Florida, and Hilton Head. My favorite track so far is Camp Creek in the Panama City area which was designed by Tom Fazio. Love that course, could play it every day if given the chance.

Camp Creek looks really great on the website, I'll have to check it out if I ever make it up to the panhandle. I'd love to play some more in Southern California since I visit there often. I think having experience playing different types of courses has really helped my game. I started the game playing the same course for about 2 years and found that my game did not travel well when I went to new courses. Eventually I got used to it and was able to manage the course better no matter where I played.

I'm starting to collect the scorecards as I play so I have a souvenir from each course. Only have about half of them, too bad I threw away the others.

Well over 100. Shadow Creek and Pine Valley the best. Shadow Creek might be the biggest surprise given it is in the middle of the desert but has little or no desert features. A ton of wow factors as well.

For Value hard to beat World Woods Pine Barrens in Brooksville, FL. PEAK season is around $120 for a course consistently rated in the TOP 100 PUBLIC or PRIVATE. Can be had for $50 or less most of the year.

Tough to justify on your own dime....Pebble Beach. Hotel $450 (almost guarantees a tee time), caddie $150 green fees $495. Pretty expensive day. Great holes along the water 5-11. 17+18.. the rest is kind average.

Best collection of golf for a trip. Bandon Dunes no doubt. Still expensive but half of Pebble Beach and better courses.

Best value golf trip has to be Myrtle Beach.

Just a few of my opinions.

Good question....gave me a reason to figure it out. Here's what I came up with, approximately:

Southwest PA (Pittsburgh area): 55 courses
Eastern Ohio: 4 courses
Northwest Pa (Erie/Conneaut area): 3 courses
Myrtle Beach: 53 courses
Orlando: 2 course

Total: 116

I think thats about accurate, with use of a local course directory and my own personal sheet that I use to keep track of all the Myrtle Beach courses I've played.

Favorites:

Local: Mystic Rock at Nemacolin Woodlands, Birdsfoot, Quicksilver
Myrtle: True Blue, The Dunes Club, Thistle

Wow. 5 countries! Awesome, I've only played in 4 states! I hope I can play out of the country one day.

Not sure how many but my favourites are generally links - Nefyn, Conwy (both north Wales) and Wallasey (just up the road) and I get to play Royal Liverpool once a year which is nice enough.

Some awesome courses in the south of France

Most exotic was probably Elephant Hills in Zimbabwe - interesting experience accompanied by impala and lots of baboons on a Nicklaus course

I've played nearly 300 over the years in 9 countries.

In 2008 I completed all the 57 courses in my native West Yorkshire, this was covered in an article in the January '09 issue of Golf Monthly. I am currently working my way through North Yorkshire and should finish this and move on to South Yorkshire in July. If any one on here plays at a club in South Yorkshire and fancies a game let me know.

Played somewhere in the ballpark of 50.....

My favorite course? Bandon Dunes.

Biggest surprise course? Old Works Montana. Look it up.

I'm from MT, played Old Works at least 50 times. Played well over 100 courses and it's still one of my all time favorites!

147 is my number and yes, I keep track. It's an affliction with me.

Probably 80% of these are in Arizona, the rest scattered about. I'm not particularly well traveled at this point in my life, but hope to visit some of the world's best courses before my time is up.

My favorite so far, probably Chambers Bay.

Just real lucky in who I know and who, for some reason, likes to have me around - trust me, I know that's not something everyone gets to do, and I'm just a publinx guy - always have been (well, almost), probably always will be. FWIW, I think North Shore CC may be better...doesn't get nearly as much pub and isn't exclusive to the same degree, and as an "experience" butler is way up there, but just comparing the courses, I think North Shore is more fun and is more "strategically difficult" (vs just "beat you over the head difficult") than Butler - I guess that's just a lot of words for saying I think the design of NS may be slightly better than butler.

I few months back I sat down and wrote a list of all the courses I've played by memory. I remember it being in the 120 range. My favorite I've played is Hacienda Golf Club outside of LA, which I've been lucky enough to play 3 times or so.
