Cleveland Classics Persimmon

That is nice...especially in that condition. I have a white/black/white jumbo that is also unhit. In all I have about 10 Clevelands and like to play with them as much as any club I own.

I would love to get some Kaplan-level detail about Cleveland. Since the company is still around, I wonder if they have the old catalogs. We could put together a PDF of a Kaplanesque book and post it for all of us who would like to know.

@golfunderpar18 Much appreciated, my Maltby guide stops at the early 80's. I must say, I'm really surprised that the Jumbo model from '86 was only $115 and retained even less trade value than other models. I always assumed they were a more premium release akin to the Cleveland "Limited" series.

Seeing a few Cleveland jumbos sell this past year on the bay for good coin.  The LFF craze influencing interest and pricing

Thanks @golfunderpar18

saw my Clevelands were produced in 88 based on your post.

Which models?  There were more pages for cleveland.  I only took photos of a few pages for reference.  Many models were made across various years.

Driver is a DG43 with black/white/red insert and 3W is AL44. both black.

DGS400 shafts. original CC grips, though they really need replacing.

On a recent Sunday in January, I bought a set of Honma M-43s and decided that's it, unless I find something for $2 in a thrift store I like, I'm done buying until I can sell some clubs and put a dent into my refinishing queue. Two days later, a friend with too many clubs called me an asked if I wanted to take some un-hit, un-mounted Cleveland heads off of his hands. I caved in seconds. These showed up last night, along with some other assorted clubs. I should have passed, but sometimes impulsiveness is stronger than logic. What the heck am I going to do with all these?

Seven drivers, three 3 woods, five 4 woods, and eight 5 woods; made up of TC 15s, RC 69s, Byron Nelsons, RC 53s, and a unmarked EOM. The unmarked EOM is exactly like my Cleveland Crenshaw head, so likely a prototype before it went into production with a different EOM insert. There are two RC 69 heads with yellow paint fill; they are both the same head, and are not the same shape as the production RC 69s that I have. I have no idea what they are, why they were made, or why they are stamped RC 69 but are not RC 69s. It is a rounder head than the production model. (see last two pictures). The standard RC 69 is a great club that I hit as well has anything I've ever hit, so I'll see how this plays. Pics below...the top row of heads I already had.

I just couldn't say no.

These originally came from an ex cleveland tour rep That I believe passed away recently.  I bought a cleveland crenshaw fairway wood that was supposedly made for Ben himself and a one off cleveland designed by putter from his son.  Silver paint fill, black Head,  new old stock
Some great new old stock heads there!

I have a plain old Designed By I have had for over 20 years. I use it quite a bit when I play what I call "Strictly Vintage"-- But then again the problem I also have a plethera of Ironmasters I am also fond of ---- Yeah like I told my bud Robot Doc the other day I am thinning the heard because we are planning to move in the next year or so. I have so much stuff I believe I could fill up at 20 ft Box truck with just my golf stuff.

Yep, same lot. I bought an RC 69 when they first hit the market; I should have bought more at the time, but I was in a period of responsibility that I eventually regretted.  I picked up a Byron Nelson driver, TC 15 3 wood, and Designed by Ben Crenshaw from this lot over the last year. (The Crenshaw, shafted with a Headspeed shaft, is just fantastic). My friend, who was not encumbered by the silliness of responsibility, picked up a huge lot from the same guy around the time I bought the RC 69 off eBay. He had been selling them off along the way, but is shifting his focus and dumped the rest off on me. I'm having fun with them now and deciding which ones I'll keep and which ones I'll eventually move on.

They came at the right time. I have an office in Oregon and my colleagues play golf, so I'm going to bring out a set of clubs on my next trip and leave them there. I don't want to bring anything I'd want to play at home, but recently I found a second set of '67 Staffs that I'm now re-shafting and now I can throw a second set of TC 15s in to the bag. Not a bad second bag to leave in another state.

I picked up a number of Dunaway Cleveland’s last year.  The  red insert model is one I’ve never seen.   I have a few other models now - one M85 like and other more common white inserts with black firing pins.  I usually like stained vs painted persimmons but these are pretty cool.  I have half a dozen or so Of that model.

Looks like a WBW on the Dunaway, firing pin on the TC15.

Both lovely looking woods.

The 4 wood has a nice new x100 shaft. I think you might remember the shaft in the driver - X400. I like to swing it sometimes. Sometimes I don"t. It could possibly give me an aneurysm.

I do remember that X400 shaft. In fact, just reading about it put me hospital for a week with back pain.

It's a different kind of pain for me. Like having my teeth pulled a few at a time.

Do you know the weight of an X400? IIRC, the S400 is 130~131 grams, and a gram or two heavier than the X100. So I'm guessing that that the X400 is close to 135g? But that's the iron shafts; the wood shafts are probably different because they have a smaller tip diameter.

Still, X400 is just nuts.

I found an old spec on DG wood shafts, it showed DGX100 as 124g.  That would make X400 in the low 130s?  <shrug>

I just had a look at the specs for DG irons shafts, and there is a 4g difference between the S200 and S400 in the tapered shafts. So based on that, I'd say, yes, the X400 is probably about 130g. Now, if it's a parallel shaft, the difference is greater, but I'm assuming it has a tapered shaft.

A couple of custom Cleveland’s I had built last year.  One for me and one for a local persimmon collector friend.  Got our initials stamped on them.  Built with new old stock cleveland persimmon blocks and I had custom inserts made.  I personally love the BWB Ben crenshaw cleveland inserts so I went that route.  My blonde head looked to have had some epoxy seep into it. Couldn’t tell until stained.  A unique look to it….blotchy but I like it.  I played it this summer and it feels great.
