This ball will probably advertise a more penetrating ball flight, like the dual dimple B330s.

Hopefully they dont change much else. I love the ProV1x. Been playing them for nearly 10 years.

Just had my first round with them and played them against the Callaway Hex Tour Black. Honestly, I didn't see much difference between the two. I think the Titleist launched a little higher but spun about the same. The Titleist felt a tad softer too. Probably the best feeling ball out there, IMO. Neither spun that much off the tee but I could spin them coming into the greens. I was surprised that the Titleist didn't spin that much because past version spun too much for me all through the bag. I think they did a good job keeping the spin down with it. I used to spin a ProV1x so much that even a 6-iron would back up about a foot but I got some roll out coming into greens with this ball and the greens were really soft.

I've got another round on wednesday and then the test panel round next tuesday. I'll be playing these on wed against the new B330 (my current ball of choice).

Since 5 yards is the distance gap between the longest Titleist ball and the shortest (ProV) it must be spin related.

I got a sleeve through the mail today, didn't even sign up for it. But I'm looking forward to testing it against my hex blacks. The only thing that could be improved with the hex is durability.

I putted for awhile with these tonight vs. the current pv1x and really liked the new ones. I could tell a pretty big difference in the sound coming of the putter. The test ball had a softer sound and a softer feel.

I believe Bridgestone developed the original proV1 and V1x................., but I stand to be corrected

The B330 tour is the absolute equal of the proV1x in terms of performance, and the most under rated tour ball out there

That's correct. I just finished my round as part of the Prototype Test Panel. The Titleist people said exactly that - the red numbers are the ProV1x protos and the black numbers are the ProV1 protos. Some other things about them - they are using a new process to put the cover on the ball. They said the current model would get "pooling" of the cover/paint which caused microscopically thicker areas on the ball which made them uneven. Also, the ProV1x's are designed to fly lower than last model (that was a major complaint about the current model by tour pros).

I have to say, I'm very impressed with these balls. They cut through the wind MUCH better than any other ProV I've played and equally as good as any other ball I've ever played. They also don't spin nearly as much as previous versions, which I like, especially off the driver.... even though I backed up a 9-iron today with one (non-conforming grooves). The ball flies a tad higher than the B330 I'm used to playing and about the same as the HEX Black but flattens out better than the HEX. AND, they don't feel like rocks. I'm definitely going to be buying these balls when they are released.

i think if you do the same comparison between the current pro v1 and current pro v1x, i think you will find similar findings...

Joker - thanks for the followup review! I am a little disappointed that I'm not in the test panel again, but I haven't heard anything. Last time, they sent me a 2-ball pack to test, but I'd much rather do what you are doing. What you mentioned sounds perfect - much more like the '09. I liked the feel of the '11, but still tended to fly a little too high.

Guys with the testers--has anyone cut one open to see how many layers it has, etc. If you do, post pics.

It would be interesting to see if there is new technology on the inside as well.

I found the prototype Prov1x to have a much lower ball flight off the driver than the previous model. So it seems like that problem was fixed, if that was what they were going after. Much better into the wind also; really held its line.

I have 2 Titleist clubs in my bag, the newest is from 2008 and neither is a driver. They didn't seem to care as long as we were using their ball (<--- BIGGEST moneymaker for Titleist.)

I played with the V1 this afternoon. It's definitely longer than previous V1s, a solid feel and solid spin. I usually play a V1x or 20XI-X so it is not in the right category for me but I thought it was awesome around the greens.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks and have used them , extensively. i have the "test" X and i was not overwhelmed. i like the current version better. The cover on the new one seems less responsive and it doesn't fly as well off the irons.

Played 18 today with the Pro V. 50* and windy today in MN. I think its longer off the driver with less spin. Felt great and the cover held up really good. The wind knocked down a couple of my iron shots. I did not like the spin on the greens. The greens where hard and fast and no bite at all with the new ball. Maybe it was just too cold.

I have the test pro v1xs and have only been able to putt on a green so far with them and they feel and sound smooth in my opinion. Hoping to get out tomorrow and hit some shots with them and see the results. I know I'll be buying them regardless unless I keep finding the '09 pro v1x ball in some local stores.

One of the guys at the test panel (a former D2 player on a national champ team) was able to use a single ball for 14 holes without a mark on it. He was astonished. He said he's never been able to do that with the older balls. Meanwhile, I was able to chew off a cover with non-conforming grooves. It was with a major trap full swing with a wedge and I backed the ball up a hill from the fringe, not from a regular shot with a short/mid iron so take that for what it's worth. YMMV.
